casey's story fucks me up so much, i always cry when i think about him. i dont know exactly why but it does, so much. i decided a couple days ago that im gonna get "BOUND FOR GLORY" as my first tattoo
What I love about the Volition check is that even *Volition* is compromised as well. Its so upset that it didn't realize she was lying to you earlier that it begins suggesting that you have her arrested out of spite despite the very real possibility she will be assassinated in jail by her employers.
You say yourself that Remake James is softer, more caring, more nuanced, more emotional and less dismissive than original James. To me it just means they did not understand the character at all. Or that hey deliberately made him more fretful, more emotional and more liekeable for the new audience. I really don't like that one bit.
I think Kim didn't actually confiscate the hubcaps but bought them with his own money but lies to Harry to not hurt his feelings.
I like that we'll never really know to take the cult as a metaphor, or a literal supernatural cult. Maybe both. That being said, the choice of the supposed deity being a black goat seems to align with depictions of Satan, but that's likely due to the prior religious orientation of the cult members. They were Christian (or equivalent), had their faith challenged, and instead turned to what they viewed as an alternative, and assigned labels to it that fit their expectations. While I'm sure the perspective of a skeptic isn't the intended lens to engage with the story, it certainly helps open up possibilities in the broader story.
Not knowing is the worst thing in the world. The human mind NEEDS that closure, that definitive answer. Leaving things open never lets you truly move past it. Not knowing what actually happened to Bruce, while compelling, just adds to the sadness of the game. And the realism. Very rarely to we actually GET that closure. Casey's family will never know what happened to him, and that is going to WEIGH on them until their very last day. You should do a playthrough where you do NOT talk to Bruce the day before he leaves. Pastor K asks Mae what happened to him, but when she responds she doesn't know, Pastor K reacts VERY differently. ANGRILY. Almost out of character for her, actually. It adds a new dimension to her and Bruce, I think. There are quite a few things in the game in fact where not talking to someone adds different dialogue to certain scenes. I had a lot of fun trying that out.
I feel the cult calling The Goat a he is more due to the misogyny that male conservatives are notorious for. It's likely sexless, but they call everything "he" because they tend to denigrate and disrespect women. Ask any woman that lives in a red state ran by male Republicans how they feel about their reproductive rights, unless she's also been brainwashed into the conservatism cult.
The song Where's Casey shows up in SO many other tracks throughout the game. The Graveyard sequence (appropriate), Batter Up (likely he also joined in on Gregg and Mae's shenanigans), the end credits track. Even a bit right at the end of the title track. Casey is simultaneously always there and not there at all.
Well said! He definitely haunts the narrate in a great many ways, especially through the music.
2:36 im sorry, but they are lifeless after the assault. The leg placement we see doesnt help, but that isnt what the creator intended them to do.
He looks like the constellation “Tehrn the Medium”
Its natural to resist when youre inevitably going to die. No one is going to act calm when theyre in a situation that involves them in pain. You think James just sits in the car when he drowns or does he try to grasp for air as his lungs fill with water?
Fair point - a therapist I once worked with in my day job said that there's evidence that even people fully intend to take their own life often change their minds at the last moment. Don't know how true that is, of course, but I suppose it is possible that they agreed to some form of a plan, but that she had human nature take over when James took action.
Diamond tattoos are used in prisons to mark stool pigeons. That would make whoever it belonged to an ex con. Perfect fodder for the cult, eh?
That's a really interesting observation! Perfect fodder for the cult indeed. You might be onto something there!
Safi ain't a nick fury. She a magneto
I'm actually really glad they left this a mystery. Just like speculating who might be cult members, I don't think we ever meet them in town. I think it's far more interesting if we never actually met any of the cult members in town. They were there, watching in the shadows, but not overtly interacting. Just like the room. We never really know. It's likely someone we never met in town. Also, I do believe Bruce killed himself. He's "going to see his family." They're likely dead, and he's going to see him. If you don't actually speak to Bruce the day before he leaves, Pastor K reacts MUCH differently, and FAR more angrily. She knew what happened to him.
The idea that James enters a tape and then "saves" inside it using a red square is so fucking meta, that I'm just going to consider this to be the canon explanation of the Bliss ending for myself, you just cannot get a crazier scenario than that. As for Rebirth, I've always seen it as James esentially going crazy, even Maria, both in the original and the remake, is surprised at James' plan. You never see him truly revive Mary, and him rowing off to that island, shrowded entirely in fog, just looks like he's been completely consumed by it, to me it's Silent Hill 2's version of "Nowhere". He's just gone. It's a nice homage to the cult stuff from SH1, but I've never really tied SH2 with any of that stuff, and it just seems like all the trauma and horror completely broke James in that ending. He even sounds unbelievably delusional in it.
Glad you liked my idea on Bliss! No idea if that's what they were going for, but I love how meta it is. And same here - I love how delusional James sounds in Rebirth. He just sounds completely out of his mind
I was always confused why Moses was affected when everyone Safi shape shifted into started malfunctioning. Safi special said herself that Moses was off limits.
My best guess is that Safi was lying on that one and it might be intended to speak to the larger way she intends to use her powers in the refuse ending, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.
I remember seeing the trailer. I recognised the trailer as I played a small part of Nitw in 2021. I recently went back and finished it and it was amazing, very sad that this game will never release.
Avengers assemble 😂
One thing I would like to note is that in China, there are still businesses, so its likely the companies that outsourced their labour to China are working with Chinese businesses rather than forcing poor and desperate people into shitty jobs. Theres also a good reason that the labour is cheap overthere, most Chinese citizens seem to pretty much have all their needs met, healthy food is cheap, they have a pretty good healthcare system and public transport, since its under a socialist government its not about meeting profit or helping businesses become rich, something the USA seems to be trying to do but only for the benefit of a upper elite and people who don't question its capitalist system in recent years. Im not trying to be political but most people from the western world just seem to have a poor understanding on what actually happens over in the supposed enemies of the USA, its not surprising since they mostly get it from news outlets that do not want the status quo to be changed or who like to demonise any country against the USA's interests by claiming its values are in threat because of said country plus most people have never been or experienced living in communist countries, even those who did and live in the west arent the type of people to support that kind of system or even supported oppressive systems that existed before communism came in those countries. Just a food for thought
Gotta admit I enjoyed the game, reminded me a lot of Bioshock Infinite and that's probably one of the best games ever made. With this being said I understand the hate it's getting and how people are saying "it's not like the original" but you gotta realize no game is ever like that these days so it's best to just let the devs make the game the way they want. I mean you don't gotta play it so... just saying. But yes I still understand it just don't tell people not to play it at all or give it terrible reviews. Honestly my only complaint is the post credits scene and hopefully this isn't spoilers by this point however if you're watching this vid I suppose it's not. Anyway I was okay with Safi having powers it was pretty interesting, however turning around and also giving Diamond powers is a little bit too much. Would make more sense if it was Moses or Vinh but Diamond? She barely had any screentime and imo wasn't that much of an important character if you ask me. However it's still a unique take. I just hope whatever they do next they finally answer a lot of questions like where the heck do the powers come from and what the heck is the storm? How come Alex didn't have to face one? I don't care if they do an Avengers thing or an X-man thing or a Shining thing I just want the questions answered. With all of this out of the way I will say it's still worth a playthrough, however I would probably wait until it's on sale or something. I spent 100 on the game because I wanted the cat content but I gotta admit 80 dollars is a little much for this game. It's a fairly big game and it's has a decent length but yeah it should have just been 60 or something.
This game is really shitty wtf were they thinking, they started by killing chloe fkng dumb decision, they destroyed this series
Now they’re gonna to the LISCU life is strange cinematic universe. I get the feeling we’re going to see Daniel, max and Alex all intertwined and come together and it’ll probably all end with max and Chloe figuring things out once and for all.
Yeah, I definitely think that's where they're going. I'm hopeful we'll see Chloe again in some form - I understand that not everyone saved her (personally, it's not even my preferred ending for LIS 1), but I do find that to be the more interesting timeline.
I think it's worth mentioning that in this game and the original, Eddie's victim is the only unique corpse model that isn't James. Eddie doesn't spend his time killing James clones, he has his own issues. So the part where you say Eddie's victims are James corpses is incorrect
If you check the envelope at 23:39, you'll notice that the letter Maria gave him was not his, but Laura's.
I think this a horrible way to take all the concept of LIS and everything about it, even if you did choose sacrifice Arcadia Bay or Chloe, they didn´t respect anything about the message of each ending, and i really hate how they treat Chloe after all she said even more when you sacrifice Arcadia Bay at the end of LIS, sorry but i can´t take this like a good LIS game
Yeah, from a critical perspective, I wasn't happy with it. From a fan perspective, I was disappointed as well. Looking forward to diving into my thoughts on it in further detail in an upcoming video!
Thank you so much for making this. I ended up just getting really bored with the progression of this by chapter four so have bowed out. Watching your video has made me sure I made the right decision
Safi in her Magneto era
the final nail in the coffin for me was Bruce not reciprocating Mae's "See you around" and instead saying a very final "Goodbye". He knows he won't ever see Mae again for sure, while she's got no idea, hoping to still see him some day.
Is it bad I got the Maria ending on my first run? 😭
Not at all! I was aiming for the Maria ending on my first run as well. It's better to go that way so you can manipulate your way to the other endings on subsequent playthroughs
Resisting strangulation is an instinct. Doesn't matter if you expect it or not.
Fair point - as I mentioned to another commentor, a therapist I used to work with in my day job once told me that there's strong evidence that even folks who fully intend to take their own life change their minds at the last moment. No idea how true that is, but it might speak to the possibility that they did have something along the lines of a plan, but when James took action, Mary's human nature and survival instinct took over.
Looking at the Silent Hill Wiki, Mary was confirmed in background notes to be 25, and James is 29.
Laura is 8. This will mean that Mary was 17 when Laura was born, so she would have (depending on country) only just have been old enough to have been Laura's mother.
Thanks for pointing this out! I would've guessed older, but in retrospect 25/29 makes sense. And yeah, old enough to be her mother if she had her at a relatively young age by US standards.
Remake really emphasize how the illness/disease really made Mary look sick. In the OG games, graphics were not detailed enough to showcase the reason why James was angry and frustrated. It's not her fault but sadly, human relationships aren't always nice. What James did was awful but it's understandable. Mary didn't want to die like that, the letter pretty says how much she felt like something bad would happen when she'd get home. Their situation just sucked. Stillness and bliss were great additions but not gonna lie, Bliss was heavy with implications of the drug he used. He probably dies off screen with his delusion. No matter how you look at it, this story is tragic.
I want to have f*ck with you
I love the stillness ending . Acting is great . My only complaint is that you don’t get the letter being read in this ending which is a shame .
James would be a great father to Laura unless she gets sick again, then she'd better avoid pillows.
"Hey Laura! I got you some new pillows!" "Hold up Fart Face - you can leave those at the door!" "Alright, fair point."
Love your voice, definitely watching more.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
14:01 It’s not that she didn’t want flowers, it’s that she felt like she didn’t deserve flowers because of how disfigured the disease made her which is just so sad.
This is a good point - it definitely has more to do with how she was feeling and how depressed she was than anything else.
I feel that the "In Water" ending is the canon one just because James's father in SH4 says he had a son but disappeared, meaning he might have ended his life or is stuck in SH hell forever. The one where he left with Laura is my favorite... having James move on and adopt Laura is beautiful :) James deserves a bit of happiness.
one of the guys in front of the bar disappeared in the epilogue, I think he was eide
18:04 At the very least we can guarantee it won't be anything like Usagi Drop... the arcane knowledge is pain
I thought the door eggs didn't matter?
Love this video 💜 Not a lot of people know this and i want to clarify (as someone who works in end if life care) palliative is for people with chronic illnesses or long lasting conditions (not expected to die within 6 months); hospice is for end of life care (expected to die within 6 months)
Glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the clarification! In that case, would it be fair to say that Mary was likely palliative care when she was at the hospital where she met Laura and where the long hallway conversation took place, but was probably about to enter hospice care when she came home for her visit with James?
I liked this video so far! It brings back memories, and especially making me crave to play it again, so I thank you for the video lul.
I always had one issue with Silent Hill 2. It's just a stupid line James says. He says that Maria looks just like Mary. Different hair colour, different clothes, different face. Like, I wish they'd have fixed that. If they'd call Maria his ideal woman, his dream woman, something like that? Fine. But he says she looks just like Mary, and I don't see it at all
It’s deliberate. He thinks that oversexualized Maria is the perfect Mary he always dreamt of. But then look at how Mary herself is being portrayed.
Think of it like this. Remember how as time goes on, especially after discovering the truth, the lakeview hotel starts to deteriorate and becomes what it truly is, not what James is deluding himself into seeing? It's like that here, when he sees Maria he's seeing what his deluded eyes are wanting him to see. When he realizes the truth in the endings where the final boss is Maria, not Mary (i.e the Leave and Rebirth endings are the ones I can think off the top of my head), In one last ditch effort Maria takes on what Mary truly looked like to try and convince/stop James to stay with her. It's her last gambit to make James not accept the truth. I think even, at least in the remake that in the Leave Ending, Maria's eyes change back to her eye color instead of Mary's when James rejects her. That's how I view it anyway.
James is deranged, this is like... the main point of the game.
Yooo
i know close to nothing about silent hill, but i think i could watch you talk about literally anything and be invested, so i'm psyched to watch this anyways
its so good dude play it
Thank you my friend! I appreciate it! It means a lot to hear from people who watch my content regardless of the topic I'm covering.
I actually love how Pyramid Head is introduced in gameplay before in cutscene, because it uses the mechanics of the game to enhance the fear of the situation. Yeah, he's just standing there.... menacingly. And yeah, he's behind bars and not making any movements. But more importantly, your radio (which most players will have on) is going fucking BALLISTIC, even as you enter the hallway NEXT to the hallway he's in. You look around and notice there's no enemies, but the static gets louder with every step you take, SO much louder than it should be given how it reacts to every other enemy you've fought so far. Then you round the corner, see him standing there, and your radio just keeps getting louder and louder. He's not doing anything, and he's not going to do anything, but the game is telling you through its mechanics that this is something you should be TERRIFIED of facing.
