  • In which I visit @Wouter van Veldhoven , a tape loop and electro-acoustic musician I have long admired. I get a tour of his studio/workspace and some of his beautiful creations and techniques, from the surprising Brüel & Kjaer gong, over the automated harmonium to the multi-head tape pitch shifter. Then we perform on tape, modular and Ciat-Lonbarde together.
    This video was made possible through everyone supporting me on Patreon. It is the first where I truly realize my goal of visiting synth/tape/soundart artists and show their techniques, as well as collaborate. If this is something that inspires you and want to see more of, consider signing up on my Patreon. It helps me invest time in money to realize these remotes and you get tons of goodies, from music to sounds.

    Woah! Two of my favourite experimental musicians in one video.... UA-cam doesn't get much better than this.
    Love that Soviet wire recorder and to see some of the tape reels I sent to Wouter being used in his studio.
    It's a pity you couldn't have stayed longer.

      I can almost smell the tubes and the old casings. Maybe there's a tiny scent of solder in the air? I feel so much at home in places like this. I wish I had such a cosy play-cave.

    The first electronic music LP that I bought featured Steve Reich and Pauline Olivera. Reich's "Come Out", as everyone watching this probably knows, was a tape manipulation piece. Incredibly trippy! I still will occasionally put it on and listen to it through headphones. You can also tell if a potential friend will be a good fit if they can listen to the whole thing!

      Ik heb een wega B4160 .. (een sony dus) 1/4" band recorder die ik heel graag weer wil gebruiken nadat ik op jullie youtube kanalen ben terecht gekomen. Wanneer ik een tape op/in de machine leg dat spoelt hij netjes door en terug maar wanneer ik 'play' druk loopt de tape moeilijk of niet rond .. draaien de capstans niet (denk ik) en raakt de tape de koppen niet. De rollers drukken de tape ook niet op. .. ik geloof niet dat ik genoeg vertand van zake heb om hieruit te komen.. kan ik iets met mijn machine nog ? Hello Hainbach. I was wandering if you ever had interference problem from radio frequencies? I have this problem on a Sony reel to reel. I did put "magnets" on the wires but with no results. I thank you in advance and I already learned a lot from you.

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  4 роки тому +1

      Mmh, never had problems - maybe you are running too long cables? Tried a DI box? Usually tape machines are shielded against RF, because that what they had to record from an amot often.

    • @futildesign
      @futildesign 4 роки тому +1

      @@Hainbach They unfortunately have to be quite long in my setup (15 ft). Never tried a DI box and will do. A ''funny'' thing is that I can also ear the radio on the speaker of my old Yamaha Automatic Bas Chord System and yes. It is the same channel. Thanks you soo much for your response. I'll keep you posted if it works.

      Thinking a bit more about this - maybe a mic straight stand with (very well) taped-on rod at a 90 degree angle where the reel could be mounted onto - the idea would be of course to experiment with slack.
