    Arroz con Gandules (Instant Pot / Long Grain) - Ivette Montalvo
    4 Tbsp - Achiote oil
    4 Tbsp - Sofrito
    1 Tbsp - Pitted green olives with pimentos (Optional)
    1 Ea. - Can of gandules w/ liquid (Pigeon peas)
    1 Ea. - Sazon (2 if you did not use achiote oil)
    1 Ea. - Ham seasoning
    1/4 C - Ham (cubed/chopped)
    3 C - Long grain rice (Unwashed)
    3 C - Water
    Set pressure cooker to “Rice/Risotto” on a Power Pressure Cooker XL
    Add oil and ham, sauté for 1-2 minutes.
    Add sofrito and cook for another 2 minutes.
    Add gandules with the reserved liquid, olives, ham seasoning, sazon seasoning, salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine.
    Add rice and water, stir to combine.
    Put the lid on the pot, securing it in place. Put the “Rice/Risotto” setting and then the “Time adjustment” setting. (Make sure it’s sealed!)
    ***Set the time for 8 minutes. After 8 minutes, it will automatically go to the “warm” setting. Let it sit for five minutes. Depressurize and remove the lid. Stir and place the lid back on. Cook on “rice/risotto” setting for another 6 minutes. Depressurize again and remove the lid to stir the rice.
    ***This is step-by-step how Ivette did it in the video but I suppose you could just set the time in the beginning to 15 minutes, sit at “warm” for 5 minutes and then depressurize and stir!
    This is for anyone who wanted a written recipe and instructions, like me! Gracias Ivette!

      Based on the reply to Ivette from her "subbie" Glenda, if using an Instant Pot (assuming you're using meat) cook the rice for 4 minutes and let it depressurize for 10 minutes.

    That's a cute Cooker Eviee… Its going to cook as good as the instapot it might not be 1200 watts so it might be 800-1000 that's fine. My instapot when it comes to pressure it takes 3 mins for rice :) I always have Chicken or pork in mine when I have used it so I use 4 mins. But I leave it for 10 mins with out touching the steam lever that food continues cooking Girl, Next time keep the same time it calls for add 1 min and let it sit in the pressure then 10.20 mins push lever over and open. I but you will have the best Rice ever :) I loved this video and the verse at the end of it was so beautiful, You are such a kind hearted woman Eve,,, God Bless You, crying again LOL. Sally, it's really hard for me to describe the flavor. It doesn't take like any of the beans that I've ever tasted, but it's good in the yellow rice. We hispanics love it lol😋🤗😘

    YUMMYYY YESSS!!! Eviee Girl you made that look like a Queen cooking in the kitchen with that Cooker, and I was screaming LOLOL NO SHE DIDNT LOLOLOL My Husband was laughing LOL he said you girls always teenagers never change LOL he thought that was so sweet :) Thanks Eviee :) But sweets that pot continues cooking after it shuts off, don't open the steam valve no no let it sit 10 min under pressure. Because remember when You have to wait between 5-10 mins Eve for that cooker to build up hot enough pressure to cook so even though we turn our pot on say at 5:00pm it will take between 5:05 to 5:10 for it to start cooking with pressure. So don't count that time count the time it starts under pressure. Then when it shuts off don't touch anything for 10.20 mins let that rice sit in that hot steamy pressure and it gets even better tasting!!! Girl you made this crazy Greek cry OMG I cannot you said such beautiful things about me and dedicated the video to me, David said, Glenda that lady knows you, you love that rice better then steak, I do that's the truth, I'm so happy you made the rice and I seen Gabby girl smile shyly she loved that rice Eve. Great Job!! My Puerto Rican Princess :) Thank You!!! God Bless and Sending Huggs and Love from Me to You and Your Family!! oxoxoxoxMuah!!

      @gabyivette66  6 років тому +1

      Lol, your hubby is right. We become these crazy little teenagers all over again. Girl my pot cooks the same way, it will not start the cooking action until it's under pressure. I get the gist of it now. I will be making my rice this way the next time that I make it. Girl! You these are all the praise, after all this was your idea. I don't know if I would have tried it if it wasn't for you. Thank you so much for the suggestion...it turned out perfect and delicious, thanks for watching beautiful 🤗😘💖Oh! say hi to the hubby🤗😉

      @@gabyivette66 Woman You did it! I'm just your Greek Sista in Fl :) I was so happy you made the rice, Ok I'll tell you why #1 Your Rice is kick a** Rice and Because I made your Rice in my Pot and I knew You would feel like a Princess with your new Pot, No going back and forth to the stove and the Hot Foil on and off, its so MUCH Easier and I thought of my Friend Eviee and I knew You would feel like a Lady of leisure Like I did when I have been making the Rice. Girl it makes the best Pork Butt Roast OMG I made pulled pork BBQ sandwiches and wow it was killer all in the pot, just don't put BBQ sauce on in the Pot after that pork roast is tender falling away from Bone, get your Tongs pull it out and on a bake rack in a baking pan then make your BBQ sauce and add honey or brown sugar to it and that's because you want that broiler to carmalize the BBQ sauce and when you have some liquid smoke its really good to put some on your Pork rub it on before you put it in the Pot, Girl you will be eating pulled BBQ pork like you are at a famous BBQ place. I want to get the fresh pork shoulder like we make the same where the skin is crunchy well if we make it in the pot I think we should be able to put it in the oven when its just done cooked and make the skin crunchy for like 20 mins on 425' yeah we have to try that Eviee, Girl make a Video of it. I know I'm not the only one that would love to know if that skin will harden up and get crispy. Eviee you are talented in the kitchen you don't give yourself enough credit, you cook well. Very Well!!! The new trend for the last 2 years is pressure cooking in the new Pots like we have. Ask Hubby for Christmas a Instapot DUO I would say get 8qt because you are like me we have big family gatherings and an 8qt DUO will save you time and money making large dishes or small dishes or making 2-3 things at the same time in it. The 6qt is a lot cheaper but I got the 8qt because of the big family gatherings we have. And I like cooking 3 things at once in it. Also it Makes THE BEST Pumpkin Cheesecake you ever ate. Just like the expensive ones downtown Manhatten. You will be great Cooking in these Pots. I had the Coursi and it came to pressure and steam was leaking out of places I didn't think it could but it did, I took pic and sent to them and I sent back that pot and got my money back. I do have a 6qt DUO in the Closet I won't use it unless I really need it. M

    Hi Ivie.... I have to say, this video opened my eyes and its something that i have to try. I noticed you went with three cups of rice with 3 cups of water, is this the same way you would on a stove top? Anyhow, I am going to experiment this, and this should be fun. Btw, did you make that achote oil? or was it store bought? -- Thanks For the video... I enjoyed it.

    • @gabyivette66
      @gabyivette66  6 років тому

      Hi Eddie, i used 3 cups of rice and water because i know the pressure cooker cooks faster... so i wouldn't be needing all the water that i would use if i were cooking it on the stove. when i cook my rice on the stove i use up to half cup of water more. i hope this helps you. I make my own achiote oil, i have the tutorial on my channel. thanks for watching Eddie ;)

      Hi Ivie... question.. i used my pressure cooker, and even with 15 minutes, it was not dry as i wanted. So i had to put another 6 minutes.. and that was still not as dry as i wanted. So this minute, i put another 10 minutes...LOL... I am going to see what is going to happen... but I did put 3 cups of rice and 3 cups of water... Just dont know why is like this. Question, may i ask what Brand of rice your using.. and is it long grain or short... I did notice from my past experiences, not all rices are the same when cooking. Thanks Ivie.

    • @gabyivette66
      @gabyivette66  5 років тому +1

      Hi Eddie, I use the Great Value brand from Walmart. I like the long grain, if you use smaller grain, you have to use less water. I hope this helped. I'm scared about your rice, it's cooking too long in a pressure cooker. Keep me updated on how it turned out.🤗

    • @eddiesanchez9095
      @eddiesanchez9095 5 років тому

      Hi Ivie... The rice was pretty soggy... but the rice itself was not deformed, in other words it was not like rice pudding. But it definitely was not dry at all. Ivie, I am going to try again, with this rice i have, which is not Walmart brand, and i am going to use 2.5 cups of water instead of 3. The only person that loved this rice is my "nenita" she is my Golden Retriever dog. I am happy for her. But just the idea that the rice can be done in his pressure cooker is incredible. I dont know about your pressure cooker, but in mine, i had to click on Saute in order to cook my ham inside the machine. Then ofcourse i added all my ingredients, plus a can of tomato sauce. Ivie, do you think the 8 oz of tomato sauce probably added to much to the 3 cups of water. Because i did noticed you did not have a cup of tomato sauce. I guess i have to experiment this. Thank you Ivie. Be well.

    • @gabyivette66
      @gabyivette66  5 років тому +1

      @@eddiesanchez9095 Eddie, I think that's where your problem is. I don't use any tomato sauce in my rice. I say do the 3 of water and the 3 of rice one more time except the 8oz can of tomato sauce.. and see how that works out for you. Keep me posted, I'm glad your fur baby liked the rice lol. 😁

    Why didn't you use tomato sauce? Just curious. Great video.

      Hi Allison, i don't usually use tomato sauce in my yellow rice. I've done it before but feel that it doesn't really add anything to it. thanks for watching beautiful ;)

      @@gabyivette66 Ok. I think I'll try your version I'm not crazy about the tomato sauce either I think it tends to throw off the rice to water ratio. But what I notice is that most people don't account for the water in the peas. I plan to drain the peas water into my measuring cup and simply add the remaining water measurement. This way I'm sure to have a 1:1 water to rice ratio. That might make the rice less moist and reduce the cooking time. I'll let you know how it goes :-)

    • @gabyivette66
      @gabyivette66  5 років тому +1

      Allison, if you make 2 cups of rice, add 2 cups of water and the liquid in the peas...then you should 2 1/2 of liquid. if it's still not 2 1/2 of liquid add the rest in water until you have the right amount.

      @@gabyivette66 Hi. I made this for Thanksgiving and it came out perfect. I think next time I will add tomato sauce cause I did notice a slight difference in the taste. But my family loved it and there was none left! LOL. Thanks for this. I can now make perfect rice in my pot! Oh I cooked it in the Instapot. It takes about 10 mins to build pressure, then it cooks 10 mins. Plus I let it sit for 10 mins before I left the steam out. I even had a little peguao at the bottom (very little) .

    This is great!!! My instant pot arrives on 11/25 and I am so making this. Would love to know if you’ve tried pollo guisado in yours yet. This would save me so much time. Since apparently I’m the only Puerto Rican in my family and everyone else just likes to eat no matter how many times I’ve shown them how to cook 😑

      @gabyivette66  5 років тому +1

      OMG, you're gonna love your instapot! I haven't made pollo guisao in it, but i'm up to the challenge. i have the same problem as you, i teach people how to cook but they only want to eat lol. come back and let me know how your rice turns out. cook it for 10 min and don't let out the steam for about 10 to 15 min.

    • @TheLightworkz

      Ivette Montalvo everything turned out well. I panicked a little because after I set it to cook and realized there was no tomato sauce but then I went back and looked at the recipe and saw you didn’t either. I normally would add tomato sauce but I guess that’s to add color cause it was still yummy 😋. Nothing sticky but it did appear to clump a little. I got the instant pot ultra and when I tried to use the Rice setting you couldn’t adjust the time from 12min so I did pressure cook low for 10minutes. On the rice setting it had pressure cook to low so no difference other than time.
      I would definitely cook like this again maybe add some more pepper and maybe cook it for the 12 minutes. Thank you for this.
      Can’t wait to see the pollo guisado if you ever do it. hint hint 😂😂😋

      The other thing was...I was going to use basmati rice but the package seemed like it was opened from the store and the only other rice I had was jasmine. So don’t know if that made a difference.
