I'm from the USA and I just recently returned from Belarus from visiting my Fiancee. The Tourist Visa is very simple to obtain and the embassy in Washington DC processes the application very quickly. I pay extra for the expedited service. At the border you won't have any issues. The Belarusian border guards were very polite to me. And were nicer than American and Dutch border guards I had to deal with on my way to Belarus. Any travel warnings you see are just propaganda by the Western Governments. Belarus is safe and a beautiful country! Nobody cares if you're American or whatever nationality you are. I had no problems from anyone. If crossing by Land border, I recommend using EcoLines to book a bus ticket. They're cheap and reliable.

The points about NATO are all good but I don't think you can ignore the connections between the reigning American Foreign Policy School and the outright crooks and scoundrels in the International Finance world who robbed Russia blind throughout the 1990's until Putin brought them to heel and never left the Ukraine. The bonds between these two groups- their shared interests, their shared blood, and their shared prejudices must be taken in to consideration. Kennan assumed a world in which statesmen are rational actors attempting to achieve the best interests of their country. But what if the foreign policy of the world's reigning Superpower were hijacked by a cabal that doesn't even think in those terms? Because that is the conundrum we face today and it makes finding a settlement for the human tragedy playing out in the Ukraine that much harder.

It's a good thing NATO kept moving east because of the history of Adolf Putin and the Russian Nazi Federation attacking their neighbors. The only thing that would have saved all former Soviet Republics including Russia is if they would have joined NATO after the fall of the Soviet Union. Putin is a dumb leader if he would have welcomed the 2014 Ukraine elections and supported Ukraine and called them a brother nation. Then announced financial and trade partnerships and looking forward to future partnerships. Ukraine would have kissed Putin's ass as Lukashenko has. Instead, Adolf Putin attacked in 2014 and the Wagner group was born to start the war in eastern Ukraine and steal Crimea. I pray Russia fails and Belarus gets a real leader.

All peace deals are made when 2 or more sides are fighting each other. Agreeing to a deal means putting the citizens & peace over the childish game the Elites play with the back & forth blame game. Being stubborn only continues a war. Right now over 300K lives lost & the longer it goes on the less opportunity for a deal. If a war was happening near me id want a peace deal like anyone else would. Unfortunately its not the people on the ground in these war zones that have the say. Its easy to play tough when people are not directly involved.
The irony of these wars is they are battles between Elites but the Elites never pay the cost. Once you start killing each other the ideas of whos right & wrong is thrown out the window because you both have blood on your hands. People do conquer for peace & virtue, they conquer for Land, Power & Influence. Only after an unquestionable victory does a side get to write the history & make its claims about who was the bad guys but in the sphere of TRUTH those claims are merely propaganda because the loss of life & destruction out weighed the benefits of the war. Take WW2 for example, 50,000,000 humans lost there lives & what was solved? America has been in constant wars since WW2 so it wasn't a matter of fighting to reach the goal of peace.
We all know 2 wrongs don't make a right & we know things just don't happen for no reason. Conflicts continue because War doesn't resolve anything. What war does is breed hatred. There are Mothers & Father & Sisters & Brothers on both side of this conflict that have lost loved ones that will hold the side that took there family members away accountable till the day they die. You cant ask those people to forgive & move on while calling for more war to settle the conflict. Every person that dies & every home that gets destroyed or every person that is displaced create more hatred. Its the stubbornness of Elites that keep these conflicts alive. In the case in Ukraine its both side's that are responsible & one sides actions does not excuse another's. Both sides Elites can play hard ball because they are the ones suffering but it will have a massive cost on Human Life & Human Suffering which in turn creates more sentiment for war.
They can continue this conflict with it spreading & not knowing who will be the last standing with the possibility of MILLIONS of lives lost & missive Infrastructure destruction or they can come to an agreement that could avoid all the death & destruction. Its always the Elites that are not at risk of losing anything that say "Making a deal is appeasing the enemy".

The Irish have a positive position of neutrality. We don't view the world through the prism of NATO and the Anglo countries. Perhaps you could try to think outside the box ?
