2:05 I can confirm on a Google Pixel 3a XL it applies to updates as well. Matter of fact, was through updates I realised you can now install two apps simultaneously. Never tried it with a fresh download.

It's already been "relieved of its duties" here in the USA. Unfortunately I've found that the podcast experience on YT Music leaves much to be desired.
