This simple ESL vocabulary game aims to drill new vocabulary words after you introduce them to your students. It is quick, fun, and efficient. All you need is a piece of chalk, a blackboard, and a few flashcards.

@@Teacher-Val OMG your reply makes me so surprise and happy. May I ask a question, I have a problem with my pupils when they feel so scared and down their heads when I ask them a question. What should I do in this case? I just give them some clues, but I don't think it works. I'm afraid they can't answer by themselves if I didn't show the way.
@@NhiNguyen-ld1mr Turn it into a game! Some students often feel shy or embarrassed to talk in front of the class, so games and/or fun activities help them break that barrier. :)

Dear Val, hello! I have tried this game with 8-year-olds and 10-year-olds. Everybody liked the activity but there was one problem... The younger children couldn't bear the competitiveness. The losing team were so upset that some of them even cried. However, I think it is a great way to teach them respect each other and accept losses. Even older children had similar problems but, luckily, they didn't cry))))

Here's what I always tell my students who are also very competitive. We play games to learn English, not to win. People do sports to show how good we can be, to show the shining heart. When you're sad or tired, you wouldn't want a winner by your side. You'd want someone who would listen and care.

cried too when I saw it for the first time. And that's okay. These kinds of moments/videos erase the differences between man and woman, I'm-right-and-you're-not, color, race, country and nationality... they show that the universal values prevail no matter where you're from.

I've been really hooked on your videos recently, great stuff! Though I teach adults rather tha children, some of the games and activities you show also come in handy. Do you think this one would work with a more mature group? Maybe with whole sentences except single words?
