Great question! I have very small dogs, one of which does not like large breed dogs unless he grows up with them from puppyhood. In addition to that, adopting an adult large breed dog could be dangerous to my small dogs. Not because they could be aggressive, but because there is a chance a large dog could accidentally injure a small one when playing or jumping around, etc. I have adopted small dogs, and one day in the future when I don't have my "littles" anymore I will definitely adopt large breed dogs. These teeny tiny dogs are cute but they are so fragile. It can be really stressful constantly worrying about their safety. A damn hawk could eat them 🤦♀️
To add, sometimes dogs in your area aren't always suitable for your lifestyle. You should adopt a dog, yes. But is that dog right for you? You'd be forcing that dog to live a life they're not really suited for and your pets/children/etc may not mesh well with the particular dog you have your eye on. You shouldn't force a dog to live in your household if you can't give to them what they need. While it's true all dogs are unique, even within their respective breed, they still need a bare minimum that you can give to them. So explore breed specific rescues. Or purchase from a very reputable breeder. Adoption is not the perfect option. If it is the best choice for you and you have found the dog that fits you and your life, you should choose adoption. Our goal should be an empty shelter. Adopting a dog from the shelter only to bring it back when it doesn't fit the way you live does more damage. They're pets. They're for life.

I did something similar with my two new cats (an adult and a kitten). I let them have free rein to explore the bathroom and I'd play with them in the tub so they'd have a positive experience. I also had them in the room when I took showers so they knew what sounds they might encounter. My shower has a detachable showerhead and sliding doors, so I get in a bathing suit and go into the shower with them when I bathe them. It makes cleaning them a lot easier and less chances of escaping. They were still stressed about it, but I gave them treats each step of the way and they eventually accepted their fate. No grudges either once they were done. The toughest part was the pet blow dryer I have. I basically treated them like rabbits getting shots (make them face me and hide their face in my arm) and brushed and blow-dried their fur that way. Wearing a thick, fluffy robe also helped reduce scratches on my arms and legs while providing something for them to grip on and hide their face better.
@@QUICKBOOKS1 Honestly showers are just easier than submerging an animal in a body of water. Especially if you have a detachable shower head or hose. It's less messy with them splashing water everywhere and they aren't sitting in the grime or dirt you just washed off
@@atlaslex Like dogs it's good to give them regular baths. It helps make their fur stay soft, non-greasy, less sheddy, and remove dirt and debris (even indoor cats get it like dust, cat litter specks, etc.) Unlike dogs, they don't need one say once a month. Every 3 months is usually fine enough and won't cause skin issues. I currently do mine once a month though, just to get them used to the experience and water.

As a former social worker I must inform everyone.... ADOPTION TAKES A VERY SPECIAL PERSON. Regardless if it's a pet or a child, not everyone has the patience and skill set to adopt. This is how you get kids that go until 18 unadopted and dogs that keep getting returned to the shelter.
Why is adoption always tied to adopting an adult dog? I mean, it still takes patience and skill set to buy and have a dog, any dog, so I don't see why is dog adoption such a fundamentally different thing that requires some sort of special effort, risk, or work? If you adopt an adult dog yes, but I mean, I don't see how buying an adult dog is any different...
@@Kate-is5mz Most people don't buy adult dogs... people tend to buy puppies. Adult dogs are the same as adult people in that they could've developed several less than desirable habits and behaviors. Most people don't want to deal with some of the behaviors they may exhibit.

This reminds me of how my boy Pete, a chocolate Lab, shook and cried the first time he had his nails done. Now he is a big boy (in every way) and a total champ, relaxed with all grooming. It's hard to watch them when they are scared babies, but in the long run this is all good for them if it is done slowly and gently and with lots of treats and love. I admire how the GWTD models gentle but firm dog care, and how she takes lots of time and holds off on e.g. the face wash.

I guess we had a strange dog. He demanded showers.
@@QUICKBOOKS1 Honestly showers are just easier than submerging an animal in a body of water. Especially if you have a detachable shower head or hose. It's less messy with them splashing water everywhere and they aren't sitting in the grime or dirt you just washed off
I used to bathe my dog in the shower wearing a bathing suit. He would pretend to be annoyed, but he loved the rubdown. Miss that boy.
Why were you bathing cats? Did they have fleas or something?
@@atlaslex Like dogs it's good to give them regular baths. It helps make their fur stay soft, non-greasy, less sheddy, and remove dirt and debris (even indoor cats get it like dust, cat litter specks, etc.) Unlike dogs, they don't need one say once a month. Every 3 months is usually fine enough and won't cause skin issues. I currently do mine once a month though, just to get them used to the experience and water.
She is absolutely gorgeous, is she from the same breeder as Vantablack? Thank you for showing us how it's really like for our puppies when they start grooming and how much patience groomers put in to get the job done 😊
Vantablack is her mom 😀
@@girlwiththedogs212 THAT'S AWESOME!
@@girlwiththedogs212 I have an all black male working line GSD. He's bigger than the norm - 105 lbs. at 5 yrs old, but he's awesome. I got him at 9 mos. old from the girl who got him from the breeder, not realizing what she was getting into. Lol
Lupa is a sweet fluffy baby. Your patience combined with liver treats will help Lupa be a grooming all star.
My shepherd got desensitized to my hair dryer just by having him near me when I used it. He would leave the room at first and peek in, then he'd watch me, then I could use it on him. Though, to be fair, it might've just been that particular dog's personality. He was always more curious about new things than afraid.
So you're telling me it's NOT just a Husky thing...Got it! Also, mine has been groomed regularly, and he still fights with his whole existence! Now 14 months old and 50 pounds of SCREAM and tantrums 😂
Not only you're burning puppies alive, you also cut their legs with some terrifying medieval device. 🤣
I'm so glad it's not just our new puppy who freaks out about anything that has to do with grooming. When I tried to clip her nails you'd think I was trying to saw off her whole paw by the way she panicked. Thank you so much for these helpful tips and advice
That Baby's cuteness factor exceeds the legal limits!! Is there anything cuter than German Shepherd-puppy ears??!! I don't think so!! ❤️❤️❤️💋
I love it when puppies need to grow into their ears, they're so cute!! Good tips here, thank you, my 6month old hates bath time, but enjoys being brushed daily which I'm so thankful for as he's a Sproodle. Our last Sproodle thought a brush was a WMD!!!
I thought you called her Loofah. 😂🤣 The dryer was obviously spewing lava and the nail clippers were trying to amputate her entire foots!!!!! 😱💚💙💜
Ohhhh my fluff, it doesn't get anymore adorable than that! Loved her singing the song of her ancestors. My daughter moved back home to help me after I broke my arm, I'm 70,she has a 2 year old part great Dane and malimuse, and she has never had a bath yet. I ordered her licking mats and told her she has to be bathed. I have a 7 year old pitsky that has cancer so the fluff is everywhere. Wish me luck with the bath. I love all of them. Thank you for videos and tips. God bless all the furbabies and those who love them 👑🙏🏻💞✝️🐾🕯🕯🕯🕯🕯
Mean mom gave me a bath I'll poop in her shoe later. Both of my Shiba Inu's head tilted with the whimpers. Thank you for the great tips on introducing dogs to crates and grooming. Not many channels talk about that they want you to pay a trainer for this.
There are some things you can do at home. There are somethings you need a trainer for.
the fact that you are mindful of peanut allergies at home is so lovely and firmly confirms you being in the top echelon of your field! bravo!
I have the adult male 96lb version of Lupa. 😂😂😂 Dude is the smartest, biggest goober and not food motivated. He eats when he wants and doesn’t care too much for the peanut booter. I love him dearly, but it was a huge change from my older pig lab who acts like she’s starving every minute.
What a sweet little girl! So brave!!! She will be a pro at this in no time at all! 🐾🐕❤️
@bojohannesen4352 You're seriously opposing that comment, she's a puppy ffs 🙄🙄🙄
There is nothing cuter than the floppy ear stage of a GSD , I am in 💕
Just lost my heart to loopy Lupa, takes me back to GSD puppyhood days.... All drama queens and excellent tap or irish dancing skills when the nail clippers appeared. One just used to pick up all 4 legs, tucked under her body and lay on them with an angelic look on her face. 4 of our 6 worked with my husband on the farm. 2 were bred for looks but could never be shown. Hope you have lots of mad, fun and loving times with her.
She almost has the Husky howl down pat.
What a blessed puppy. Having the opportunity to view a responsible owner and a professional in her
field of work. Owners of dogs choose this highly achieved young woman to have their pets groomed.
Some have free treatments. Puppy tutorial, awe is, 💖 heart warming 💖 💓 😊
Lupa is so cute please have her in more videos ❤
My "sister" is a senior German Shepherd and I love seeing puppers that look like her. Lupa is a beautiful girl who I’m sure will grow up to be an amazing companion (and helper, if you choose to train her for such)!
She was doing great until you turned on the dryer - then poor, scared, little Lupa went full-on drama queen. 😁 She is just adorable! ❤️🐕❤️
Her name is Lupa, not Luna
@@parryyotter She’s currently a Luna-tick when it comes to blow dryers! ;-)
@parry otter my bad! Thank you for correcting me. :^)
@@tundrawomansays694 I see what you did there! 😅
If my black working line German Shepard was anything to go by, Lupa will love butter or cheese.
Your video had me tearing up bringing back memories of our little GSD's first bath when we brought her home at 11weeks and her ears weren't even up. Our dogs are identical working line black GSDs, just beautiful and just as vocal as ever. Mine is 5 now. Please do more videos with Lupa in the future!
So cute! Gidget should be Lupa’s buddy ball of hair for grooming
Don’t worry about it Lupa, I’m not bred for my looks either ☺
She was a good girl for her second time.
German Shepherds are very likely to be not motivated by food. It's what in part makes them good watch dogs. They can't be bribed by strangers, with poisoned food or whatever.
Our black GSD Maggie wouldn't accept food from strangers however our Bernese Mountian dog Loretta & Border Collie Alice that's a completely different situation.
Lucky you! A black GDS puppy! She's so cute, love that little face.
"She was bred for looks."
She looks so beautiful, though.
LOL, poor Lupa's cries are freaking out my black GSD!
I've, always, wondered about that.
She is so adorable. I would not have been able to let her panic like that. Good job, Lupa and Girl with the Dogs!
She may not be bred for looks, but she is gorgeous and amazing and so cute.
I can’t wait to see her progress to being a grooming champion! What a sweet baby with those big ears!! ❤
love GSD so melodramatic, and cute, but man oh man those whimpers make me wat to hug her ;.;
Oh, my, I just love your little Lupa! You calling her a suckie baby just warmed my heart as that was what I called my Kashmir (mini toy Aussie) when she was being, well, a suckie baby. Lol
This is the pup you adopted? So so gorgeous!
Floppyboppy ears. Beautiful pup!
You are awesome! Thank you 😊
She’s such a beautiful puppy, Vanessa. I like how she looks so different from the familiar standard German shepherd dog.
I cried. This video oozes love. Thank you, Vanessa
This dog is insanely smart. Its THINKING. A LOT
Lupa is so adorable I cant even! 😭😭 ❤❤
Your little Lupa “Wolf” puppy is beautiful!
Thank you for the information.
What a little beauty she is.......
she’s stunning omg
Lupa is one of the cutest pups I’ve ever seen. ❤
Hi Vanessa. just received the equigroomer. the wild mature cat with frost bitten ears that adopted us loves his brush. the happy hoodie might take a while . Thank you for your channels
Such a drama queen, Lupa sounded like she was trying to summon a demon when the blowdryer came on 😂
I would like to squeeze that puppy 🐶 she is soooo cute 🤗😘
Love your primer on using peanut butter or not. My pup LOVES it, but she has GI issues and the high fat causes intestinal bleeds. I found this out the hard way, unfortunately. Thanks for your great vids!
Poor thing
My friend's dog got hold of a half (ish) a jar. It was messy.
Hello Michelle!👋Merry Christmas and a happy new year in advance ❤🎉
I will anxiously await to see her grown and learn to love being groomed. She's going to be a stunning dog.
Congradulations on getting a black German Shepherd; I remembered some time back you said this breed is your favorite. Mine too.
You had your hands full too! 😊😊😊
She's beautiful! I hope we'll see videos of her growing up.
I love how you try to reassure the adorable pup when she was crying...thank you for all you do for every dog you groom and for taking the time to treat them as individuals and cater to their needs and stress levels💞💕💞
I wish they would always stay that little. Shes sooo precious
Lupa is adorable! I've never seen an all black German Shepherd before, and she's a beauty!
Oh my goodness. She is so cute! One day, she will love her spa day. Today isn't that day, but one day, lol.
It's so heartbreaking to hear her screaming because of the drier but I know she is fine. Plus of course she is fine! Vanessa takes such wonderful care of all animals and this puppy is her's so seeing all of the attention is so sweet. Such a beautiful baby girl, so dramatic but she will warm up to it all I hope. Hope to see her again and again for grooming.
Imho this is pushing too hard. You can get them used to the necessary evils of life more gradually.
Lupa brought tears to my eyes. Ooooooh baaaby noooo
Those ears..... its everything!
Lupe did very well for her second bath. I love her ears. She's so cute.
I wondered if you would end up with one of those 10 puppies
You could tell you really fell in love with them
She’s gorgeous lucky you
She is a beauty!
Beautiful German shepherd
I have a working sheepdog from a rescue centre who isn't food motivated. I have to get super excited and say good boy tons of times when we are outside. I do get some strange looks! Lupa is so very cute. That crying and shaking broke my heart, but you're right in that they learn quickly to use it to get their own way.
I can't get over those floppy ears!!!! She's so beautiful!!
I’m so glad you got a new GSD.
I'm so glad for the sake of your fingers that Lupa has such excellent fang-eye coordination~
Thank you so much for sharing this very honest video/puppy experience! I'm so encouraged to see a puppy be... well, a puppy---and someone be so calm while dealing with the puppy-ness haha! Enjoy your beautiful baby!
She certainly knows the song of her people! She’s absolutely stunning
The betrayal of the dryer, is strong with her.
She is the cutest. Love the floppy ears. She was more concerned with what you are doing than licking the peanut butter.
She doesn't care about her peanut butter stuck to the wall - she's got her favorite toy instead! YOU! 😀🥰
Such a good puppy for you.
Oh my, that was the most heartbreaking cry! She really is a beauty.
