This video was put together by Ubisoft as a sort of Trailer for their game Skull and Bones. Just love the castanet sounds Adam makes near the end. What an honor for Home Free to be able to do this.
I think if any Home Fries weren't fully behind the Bass Gang cover, Adam Chance's full approval SHOULD set them straight. And FYI - they sometimes do watch reactors. Not often, but. . .
The images Skull And Bones game footage. I agree about Adam Rupp being the best. The Bass Gang should do a collaboration with Chance. Chance is helping The Longest Johns with the first half of their American tour till Robbie gets his visa sorted out
That was an excellent reaction, Casper! Yes, Rob is of Swedish descent. A lot of Scandinavian immigrants settled in Minnesota (Rob's home) and surrounding states. I think that The Bass Gang's cover was a huge compliment / wonderful homage to Home Free. Of course, there are going to be obvious differences between the two versions. TBG is based on 3 different continents, has visa red tape, and a much smaller budget. HF has that alien 👽 Adam Rupp. HF had the advantage of Ubisoft's backing and graphics. (However, I have no idea what Ubisoft contributed to the video, except the graphics.) Thanks for reacting to both and for your positivity! 😊
Remember there is also Ubisoft behind this so they upped the production I’m sure. Ubisoft saw their Sea Shanty Medley during Covid and approached them to write a song for their new game Skull and Bones and the rest is history as they say. Ubisoft also wanted musical instruments in this so there is guitar, mandolin and maybe tambourine? (Unless Adam is doing tambourine) and Adam is doing the drums. Home Free rarely uses instruments unless a guest singer plays piano (as with Texas Hill) or Maggie Baugh (violin/fiddle). And a few songs by HF with piano or guitar. It doesn’t bother me as it’s so rare. Great reaction! Loved your version with all the bass. Maybe try I Can’t Outrun You (lots of bass) but also very well done video. 😍
Adam Rupp makes the most amazing sounds like the cassinettes and harmonica sounds. I am stoked that Adam Chance wrote and has the lead on this. His low notes are fabulous
I have seen comments from Home Free members on reactions. So, consider yourself blessed if you join that rank. This Home Fry loved the Bass Gang's rendition of Skull and Bones
Yes, Rob is very proud of his scandinavian roots. In their Sea Shanty Medley Adam did castinet sounds in the last song, which sounded very similar to the sound you were referring to in this video. He did it with a way faster beat though and yes he amazes me every time with how clear and crisp some of his drums and sounds he makes are.
I can say with 99% confidence that Rob has Scandinavian heritage. I mean, he is from Minnesota. I live in Minnesota and a majority of the population is of Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch or German heritage. I believe Adam Rupp is as well. Funny little trivia. I live in only about a hours drive from the small town that the Adam Rupp's grandparents lived in and where Home Free performed a few times before the Sing Off. One of my favorite original songs (Not written by one of the guys but it is not a cover) is Catch Me If You Can
As Lynn said, Chance is filling in with his favourite shanty band, the Longest Johns, at the moment - were you around when they did the collab with the Wellermen? It would be great if you checked out some of their music videos, they have a really interesting way of building a fanbase and a community.
I wasn't representing The Wellermen at the time they did the collab but I was there for the first live performance of the song (I was helping Tenwest, the label behind The Wellermen, with their first concert in London). Great song!
The whole instrument thing is so ridiculous. I would love them even if they had a full orchestra behind them. But I do really love the a cappella stuff. I also did enjoy the Bass Gang cover. I wonder if Ubisoft provided some funding for this video. I think the woman is a character in the game rather than a real historical person.
In Home Free’s behind the scenes video of their interrupted European tour in 2020, the guys are asking Rob to translate signs that *I think* were Norwegian. Definitely Scandinavian! It’s fun to see a reaction from a different perspective, like you do. My only criticism of The Bass Gang’s version is that it seemed sort of monotone. That’s not really the word I’m looking for, but even though HF’s version is definitely bass centric, TBG’s seemed to not have enough variation in pitch to make the bassiness shine. I guess it was like eating nothing but Hershey’s plain chocolate when there are so many levels of chocolate available. Regardless, they did a great job! Tim and Austin are prolific writers and their So Long Dixie album is all originals except for Folsom Prison Blues. On their last album, Crazy(er) Life, I’ve Seen is an original by Tim, written back when he was about your age. Thanks, Casper!
@@CFEntertains I think it is difficult for voices that are all bass to do a sea shanty with its call and response parts. Real sea shanty's have that quality they were working songs
During a performance of "Man of Constant Sorrow" in Europe last year, Tim referred to Rob as "our Sweedish boy"...so, yes...he apparently is Sweedish.😊 My recommendation for Home Free is "Listen to The Music" (Doobie Brothers Cover). Really fun song that showcases Adam Rupp's beatboxing awesomeness.😊
All the men in Home Free are vocal chameleons. Tim (bass) has a 5+ octave range; Chance has 4 octaves and covers bass when Tim is singing lead. Rob (glasses) is lead tenor, Austin is a 2nd tenor - they switch parts back & forth. Adam's beatboxing is incomparable. They all can beatbox to a degree. Rob & Austin are both classically trained and have a duet of "Nessun Dorma". Chance, Tim & Austin are each song writers with originals on their channels as well as with the band. Tim's originals include "Remember This" & "Might as well be me". Austin's include "Love Me Like That" & "Save the World" and you just watched Chance's original "Skull & Bones".
Home Free I believe got sponsored by Ubisoft for their game "Skull and Bones", and since Chance is a HUGE fan of sea shanties, it only makes sense for the title song to be a sea shanty about piracy. EDIT: That "horseshoe" sound is called a castanet.
HF originals - Dreamer, Snow Globe, Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget (the older one - it's funnier), So Long Dixie, Full of Cheer (I think that's the name - at least it's the name of a Christmas album that has a few good originals on it), and then there's the trilogy that Austin wrote for Amberly - my brain is not coming up with the name of any of them at the moment. I'm sure some of the other fries will fill in here. Ans yes, Caspar, I love the Bass Gangs' cover.
That makes sense - I think it's incredible that the instruments play such a minor role in this song and that HF's voices alone are creating this magnificent soundscape. LOVE THESE BOIS
I may be wrong but the way I see the story here is that she got on as a lowly crew member and used them to travel and get to where she knew the treasure was. Once she got the coins she was able to become captain of the ship. I think the pendent was just used to identify her from one setting and age to another.
Sadly there are some real acapella snobs who lose it if they hear an instrument. I don't care as long as it adds to the song and Home Free are brilliant at making the right choices. I believe this video follows the 'story' of the video game. And yes, Adam Rupp is the best.
Wasn't that great! We've been waiting for this official video by Home Free for awhile now. It felt like watching a movie. Home free is so talented & they can do any genre of music. Chance loves sea shanties & he wrote this song for the game "Skull & Bones". His deeper voice sounded great for this song. And of course all the background harmonies of the guys including Adam's fabulous vocal percussion.
I'd love to explore more originals from Home Free - What song should I check out next?
My favourite is Remember This but Austin has some wonderful love ballads - Stargazer Lilies and MR, and So Long Dixie is a great mission statement.
A cover of I'll See You In My Dreams made by Tommy Johansson.
@sallymaria yes!! That's what I was going to suggest lol .... the Stargazer trilogy is some of my favorites 😍
Hillbilly Bones always get me.
Some awesome Home Free originals are...So Long Dixie, Dreamer & Lonely Girl's World
He's a very underrated bass-baritone, who many people have no clue he's not your typical baritone.
He's a perfect fit for Home Free - I think I remember that there were talks of him joining PTX at some point? Imagine that haha :o
This video was put together by Ubisoft as a sort of Trailer for their game Skull and Bones. Just love the castanet sounds Adam makes near the end. What an honor for Home Free to be able to do this.
Ubisoft were wise to recruit HF for this!
Chance was immersed in this project from day 1. Home Free supported him 100%. Happy for them all.
Lovely lads

I saw that yea! ✨
Adam Chance is a great singer. The harmonies are great for this song. Home Free is my favorite group and i love Home Free.
I really feel like Home Free brought his gorgeous lead vocals into the spotlight
