  • First gig of this type for us back in January of this year. I held on to this video until now hoping we would be able to find the stems but no dice so I decided to just upload it anyways. Opening for Trey Lewis at Moonshine Beach, lots of fun (even though I don't look like it, I know. Working on less stoicism on stage. More to come on that!).
Amp rig is a 1964 Vox AC30 I worked on here on the channel, as well as my 1965 Fender Vibrolux Reverb I also rebuilt on the channel. Guitars are my 2019 M2M Les Paul Custom '54 spec, and a Rivolta Baritone. First time running this rig, lots of learnings... it's a marathon not a sprint!

Not going to lie, it's a bit cringey to watch this back but here we are. Gig from about 5 months ago, as mentioned in the video it was recorded but the stems got lost so I shelved it but decided to just upload it anyways with the FOH mix + my phone audio blended. Come so far in those 5 months as a group, and as an individual. Just got done doing a double header at their main venue Moonshine Flats in downtown SD, insane time! I did get some clips of that as well, we'll see if those get uploaded but either way here's a little vintage amp action for ya. Lots of learnings from this gig, that's for sure. Onwards and upwards!

I have to say, there's nothing to be embarrassed about that performance. You pulled some lovely tone out of those amps and the baritone portion was nothing short of excellent.
      Thanks for sharing.

That was a big sound you got from that LP on the solo. Kudos! Great band mate.

Just wondering what kind of stage volume (in decibels) are you pushing with that setup? It didn't seem like you had much room in there to turn it up past 1-2? I'm not a critic, I get it, but it must be a bit of a bummer having these great vintage amps and having to get most of your tone from pedals.. :(
FWIW I switched to 5F2A princeton some years ago with a humble Jensen P8R alnico driver for this reason ..

? I show Vibrolux was on 4.5. AC30's sweep is a bit weird, so hard to equate to a number but it was louder than the VR. I did actually run things cleaner (quieter) then I normally do, especially vs today, but that was a choice. The only gain I used in any of these clips iirc is a fuzz for leads, everything else is just the amps on their own. Cleaner tones are from rolling the volume back to around 5 or 6 :)

@@YeatzeeGuitar Sorry, I got to the end of the video where you explained re: the audio levels only after making the comment. I'm still impressed you were able to get that loud and for it not to be an issue! Lucky barsteward. :)

All good! Yeah these sort of venues encourage loud, fits the vibe. Not all gigs are like that, some updates coming on the channel will discuss some of that and what rigs I'm testing out 🙂

Definitely appreciate you sharing. Thanks for that. But it didn't help much. For me personally, good, or when possible - great songwriting - comes first. Then the heartfelt performance in the vocals and the fingers on the instruments. Finally, the equipment. 🌞 🕶 SD

It sounded awesome...I would love to come see your band the next time you are playing in the Orange County area. My wife is a big country music fan and she goes to my metal/rock shows with me, so I owe her a couple of country shows! What is the name of your band?
