I bought a charango while in Lima in 2001 as a gift for my son. He has never played it. I started learing guitar 2 years ago and tonight decided to get out the charango (now mine). The first e string is broken but I tuned it anyway and have ordered new strings. I am glad to have found your UA-cam channel.

Thank you! This is helpful. I found an old instrument from my grandma in my closet I had forgotten about so I wanted to learn. It is made of armadillo shell but I thought it was a ukulele so I was looking at online tutorials realizing no ukulele looked like mine then figured out i had a charango! I had never heard of this interment before

Hi from Belgium.
I play the guitar but I like the sound of charango. Pretty similar to mandolin and guitar or ukulele.
I recently rediscovered this Andean type of music with the recordings of Kollasuyo Ñan.
They recorded some really good albums over here in the 80s.
Ever heard of Victor Hugo Gironda, Raul Uriorte, Tatake or Tchino from that band by any chance?

Great first lesson, definitely more in English please! I have played ukulele and mandolin for a few years and now want to try charango. Are the charango strings steel or synthetic? It’s not easy to find a charango in the UK so could you spare some time to advise on how to select a beginner instrument please? Keep up the good work!

Really cool lesson Willy. I bought a Charango in Peru last year and have been struggling with it a little bit and this lesson really helped me focus. The only problem I have is that my charango keeps slipping around when I try to play it... any tips for this?

Teacher,; thank you so much for your lesson in English, I am from Ecuador, but I live in canada most of my life .
I have an old charango, the strings are too high and there is no way to fix, furthermore, I just like to buy a better one; can you please tell me if there is a big difference in sound between professional and concert charango; I prefer lessons in English, because I play guitar a little and I like to keep associate the name of the cords in English.
