      To all the bhakts praising Modi for this. Sorry to break this news to you but this project was started in 2006 by the Manmohan Singh led government. "The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is a corporation run by the Ministry of Railways (India) to undertake planning & development, mobilisation of financial resources and construction, maintenance and operation of the Dedicated Freight Corridors. DFCC has been registered as a company under the Companies Act 1956 on 30 October 2006."

      To all Haters, Separate Rail line for Freight was Proposed during Atal Sarkar (1999-2004) along with Golden Quadrilateral Highway Project. Priority was given to National Highway first because Demand was Higher there.
      Next Government was an Incompetent One, was busy in Scams. Hence this Project, from 2006, is still under construction.

    work of eastern corridor started in 2013 and work of western corridor started in 2015. dfc was founded in 2006 but no work.

    one thing mentioned is wrong - bulk of Indian passengers go by road- this is wrong. Most of the passengers prefer rail and travel by it.

      Its road now because the railways in the past two decades have utterly neglected freight transport and focussed on short term benefits to a selected few passengers. There was never a coherent long term planning of this scale in railways before. Suresh Prabhu is doing a great job

    Freight corridor has always been a good concept, so lets hope it gets completed and executed on time. As you all know even a small flyover in India can take 15 years to complete.

      +Varoon So, you are only justifying the usual ignorance towards Southern India. Now stop barking like a mad dog. I am not against any infrastructure commimg up any where in India. All I mean is that, the south has grown dispite the governments ignoring them, and had the GOI more actively played a catalyst role towards industrial development in south, we could have acheived a much much better economy and created lot more jobs.

      +Varoon neither Bangalore, Kerala developed by Central Government. Chennai port is a old story. The Chennai port and airport requirs a major capacity upgrade and Tamil Nadu Government is demanding this for a long time along with connectivity to central electric grid. These all infrastructure don't even need a fraction of investment of annual additional trains that the Central Government anounces every year. But no. People of south will be ignored as usual by GOI.
