  • Black guy doing an Irish jig at the drop of the hat at the Strand Bar in Derry/Londonderry, UK City of Culture. A week long celebration of Irish music and dance at the Fleadh Cheoil 2013...Touch of the Michael Jackson dance routine. Wasn`t he good:)?

      And I love you. I'm an American folk dancer. I am a black American Europhile who loves and respects the dance and music traditions of Europe. I've done folk dances from Eastern Europe and Scandinavian traditions for more than 40 years. For me, it's easy doing African and Afro Latin dancing. It's more of a challenge to do European folk dancing. One day I will go to Ireland and will attempt to learn your folk dances. I've actually learned Irish step dancing in America. Cheers. I love you, my brother.

    Though this man is quite agile with his legs and even his body, I would not call what he is doing "Irish Dancing". Best example of great Irish Dancing is Morgan Bullock's amazing very controlled body posture when she dances, just as Irish Dancing should be. I cannot stop watching her art and technique. She looks like her legs are twice their length; what a beautiful dancer she is! This guy's body is way too loose (watch his arms!) to be called Irish Dancing. Sorry. He is just dancing and the main thing: he is enjoying himself, which is the main idea on such a ceilidh.

    • @philbebbington1755
      @philbebbington1755 6 років тому

      That is true " sean nós " dancing not step-dancing, set dancing or " River-dancing " so called authentic steps are the equivalent of Ballet compared to the original Russian Folk-Dancing it is based on, Cómhaltas Ceóltóirí na hÉireann try their best to stultify traditional music, singing and dance by only accepting what they decide is traditional, but sure what would you expect from an organisation whose President doesn't play music, sing or dance...... sean nós is the real thing not expensive costumes with " celtic designs" fake tan and shoes with shiny bottoms LOL and traditional shoes were usually bare feet or hobnailed work boots not fancy shiny patent leather, jayzuz most people had no arse in their trousers but could still do sean nós !

    • @concertinachick
      @concertinachick 4 роки тому +2

      It's sean-nós dancing, the predecessor to modern Irish dance.

      Steps are legit and authentic and older than feis style dance.
