Alastor saying "Fuck you." to Lucifer seems like a ballsy move but this is actually a rare Alastor L. For the first time since he's been introduced, he couldn't think of anything clever to say except curse.
Alastor wasn't really worried about Charlie. He didn't even want to be his dad. He is a self centered narcissistic piece of shit, I love him but it is what it is. He is too narcissistic to accept that something there is above him, that he is not in control. He cannot control Lucifer, Lucifer is infinitely more powerful. So, to keep his fragile ego intact he has to win something over Lucifer, a small victory, to regain control He loves so much and needs so much, he NEEDS control. So he tries to hit Lucifer, his daughter, where it hurts the most, pretending to be a father figure when he never really did anything. I mean, he's there at the hotel and fixes the place up from time to time, but other than that, he's almost worth a damn. So yes, Alastor was trying to beat Lucifer so as not to feel inferior. That's why he's so stressed, because he can't beat him. I love Alastor, I love the character he is, but a lot of people still think that Alastor is really a good person or that he cares about them. He doesn't do it, maybe at the end of the season he starts doing it But in chapter 5 everything was just for him and for him. Furthermore, narcissistic people do not think about risk, they overestimated themselves and we saw that Alastor believed he could beat him... *Spoile* Adam, When Adam himself says it, no mortal soul is a match for him, he was far above Alastor. If Lilith, being the second human, she is in hierarchy just one step below Lucifer And Alastor is 5 steps below, he had no chance, even less without an angelic weapon, But he didn't care, because he is so narcissistic that he believes he can get away with anything despite the obvious fact that he is not. Narcissists are smart and stupid at the same time. Al didn't know Lucifer, he may have thought that Charlie wouldn't let him die, but if Lucifer wanted to and it got him a lot out of hand it wouldn't matter, could have killed him. So yeah, it's not that Alastor will care, it's that he is a self-centered narcissist. 😂
It's strange how quickly Alastor and Lucifer have beef; but I feel like the reason Alastor doesn't like Lucifer is because Lucifer's presence means that Alastor is no longer the metaphorical biggest dick in the locker room. He knows that Lucifer was fully capable of tying his ass in a knot if he wanted to.
Yeha it's definitely that, but also I think it more falls in line with Alastor HATES not being acknowledged. We've seen his composure break a little bit when Carmilla did not care where he has been for 7 years. He especially hates that he's being treated as basically a nobody by Lucifer, cause he does the exact same thing to people he doesn't acknowledge too.
My read on Alastor is that he can't have any threats around to his position at the hotel, because Charlie is an important part of his plan to get off his "leash." But I could also see him developing genuine affection for her over time. Their stories aren't THAT different, really She is underestimated by the rest of hell, just like he was in his backstory, but someday she'll become incredibly powerful and influential like him at his prime. And I could see him forming a genuine bond there, maybe leading to a moment where he is torn over whether to help her or betray her, and Charlie has to attempt the hardest redemption of all: Alastor himself
Alastor does not want anybody influencing Charlie other than himself, and who is a greater threat to that than her own father who she has unresolved issues with? When we first met Alastor in the pilot, he took up all the space in the room with his flamboyant personality and implied danger through his reputation. But, Alastor cannot use any of his usual methods on Lucifer. He can't charm him, he can't manipulate him, he can't threaten him. The fact that someone can take all of that away from him just by being in the same room makes Alastor feel like he's being attacked and it puts him in defense mode to where he has to prove he's not smaller than Lucifer any way he can.
Oh, I find it really interesting you picked up an accent on Alastor in 6:55. I'm from the south, so I didn't hear it at all, and had to relisten to the scene. I love that little VA detail.
Alastor is under a contract with Lilith. And Lilith supports Charlie. She sent Alastor to protect Charlie. Notice he arrived at the Hotel immediately after Charlie called Lilith. Lilith grabbed Alastor when he arrived in Hell because she needed some muscle to fight back against the more predatory Overlords. She had been trying to unify Hell and they were pushing back. Lilith couldn't rely on Lucifer because he had fallen into depression and lost his faith in humanity. So she boosted Alastor and made him target only the more predatory and uncivil Overlords. Overlords that showed empathy or civility such as Zestial and Carmilla were spared. But the thing is even though he is under contract with Lilith he is still crafting plans. He is trying to drive a wedge between Charlie and Lucifer so he can gain more control over Charlie. And that is for two reasons. One he wants to break the contract Lilith has and is looking for any advantage. And second his goals are lofty. He sees Lucifer as a failure. All that power and he is sitting around making ducks? He despises him and wants to topple him and take his place.
Alastor poked the bear so to speak because he knew Lucifer wouldn't be able to touch him. If Lucifer attacked him, it would upset Charlie and that was the last thing Lucifer wanted. So Alastor knew that he could get away with the jabs at being a better "dad" than Lucifer
I loved the take on Lucifer, just being a "bad" Dad because the probably had too much anxiety to talk to Charlie by himself. That Guy is depressed due too everything that happened! :( He still wears his wedding even after their splites ring ... He is great! Aaaand my poor Baby Husk was shaking on the Ground ! :( Al is terrifying sometimes XD I really liked your Reaction, keep it comin'
I don't think it's just the anxiety. I don't know why, but I get the feeling that Lilith has something to do with Charlie's estrangement from Lucifer. If I recall the pilot correctly, Charlie says something to the effect of "maybe Dad was right about me." Now, maybe this is a retcon of Lucifer's personality and he was originally supposed to be a dick; or may it means that Charlie was getting messages (or interpreting them) in a way that Lucifer wasn't intending them. Or maybe Lilith was just fabricating stories to sort of turn Charlie away from Lucifer, and by the time that Charlie and Lucifer could reconnect, she'd already internalized this opinion and Lucifer's general awkwardness only compounded the situation. Because the way they portray Lucifer just doesn't match up with Charlie's impression of him. But maybe it's just viewer's bias in that we outside observers can see that he clearly loves his daughter even if he's not great at showing it.
There's a parable of the Devil and the Duck. A brother and sister are out playing on the family farm, the brother throws a stone and accidentally one of the family ducks, he tries to hide the body, but he sees that his sister saw him. Later mom asks the kids to clean up after dinner, and the sister says "oh my brother said he'll do it all", she then comes to him and says, "remember the duck". The brother nervously says he'll clean up. In the story this blackmail goes on and on... eventually the brother cannot take the torment any longer and finally confesses to his mom to end it. Mom she says "son I saw what happened to the duck through the kitchen window and forgave you when it happened, I was just waiting for you to come to me". Satan being the sister and God being the mother.
Honestly, alastor definitely one of the more interesting characters and people seem to forget he could absolutely end up being the big bad. How many shows have we had where they put up a presentable character that we all liked but know they're fucked up but still cheered for them until they did something truly irredeemable. PERSONAL THEORY. Obviously alastor is a narcissist, but hes so far off the deep end it only makes sense that he would make a deal with someone who beat him. This type of person doesn't want power handed to them. Him being at the hotel and actually giving a shit is part of that deal and the narcissist in him pretty much makes him want to own his task so he can feel like hes back in control/has the power. Which is why he also snaps so bad at husker. I'm sure we've all worked with that person, they HATE being reminded they're not actually in charge. Then you get his outro song...
There could be several reasons why Husker might warn Alastor about Mimzy being trouble. 1. He could just be a stand-up guy. He entered the deal willingly, if foolishly, so he's going to do what needs doing even if he doesn't like Alastor. 2. He might actually like Alastor when he's not tugging on his leash or pushing him around. 3. The terms of the deal might stipulate that he needs to do his best to help Alastor, giving him no choice. 4. He might not want to get dragged into whatever Mimzy is dragging them into. Alastor can certainly handle himself, but what about the rest of them? 5. Related to that: Alastor told him to help with the hotel Mimzy's shenanigans could threaten the hotel.
I would say its likely a mix of 2 and 4 in my own headcanon at least. Husk is not a dude who wears his emotions on his sleeve at all, and even though Alastor can be a psychopathic terrifying prick, he is a helpful one, I feel Husk may feel a sense of loyalty there, and if not to him, absolutely to the rest of the cast and the hotel.
See, here's my thing about Alastor and the moments where he seems to really care about Charlie and the hotel - we all know Alastor is calculating, manipulative and aloof. We know he has ulterior motives. But this episode more than any other really shows his narcissistic tendencies - the NEED for control, how threatened he was by Lucifer ON SIGHT, the need to fully display his power in front of everybody after Husker dared to talk back to him. I find him to be very egocentric and arrogant underneath his charming appearance. I think that he IS starting to care about the hotel - but not in the sense of genuine caring for the residents. He's starting to attach himself to the hotel and to Charlie, so now these things are an extension of HIS ego. Threatening the hotel itself is becoming a personal attack on his authority, and so he seems to be acting like he is developing feelings for sentimental reasons. He even calls himself the "host" of the hotel. It's his now, in his mind. Also I mean, he could be forced to protect the place via his contract but I genuinely think it's either the former or BOTH.
