Only geniuses like these can take one of swing's great classics, performed a million times, reinvent it, spin it around, play with it over and over again, make it look totally different, but still remain the same old theme. ... and so on for 8 minutes, twice as long as it normally lasts. Incredible, Andrea, Mallinger and Dannemann (what a great guitarist) get it, with Heinzle and Pi always following them on the adventure. It is that genius that can only be achieved with a mixture of great talent and maturity.
Not that they don't stand alone with their improvisational reworking of the classics, BUT, it was a good day for this group when they signed on Andrea, who rounds it out. And a good day for her to dabble in a slightly more experimental sound.
Excellent! The guitarist is fabulous and completely original. It is heartwarming to see that these young musicians have assimilated and kept the spirit of good jazz instead of straying into dead end streets under the pretext of novelty. Note that at the end, the musicians resume the arrangement of Milt Buckner for our greatest happiness.
What a great version of this jazz classic! I was at the Bar Colombia in September and saw Andrea's performance which was great fun and is now on UA-cam.... Andrea you keep pushing those boundaries don't you!! Great stuff.....
Im "Schl8hof Wels" haben sie das auch gespielt und ich war begeistert. Seitdem habe ich zwei weitere Konzerte von Andrea Motis besucht. Ja, ich bin ein Fan.
Truly fantastic. More like this, please! If ever that is possible. If the whole band moves into one house, everyone can isolate together (from Covid) and play together! Please. So many of us around the world need your music. I hope you realize that.
What fun. That was probably the best guitar solo adventure I have ever heard. And Andrea, you sound and look so very happy to be a part of this wonderful musical, magical, expressive troupe of talented artists. A wonderful treat to see and hear. Thank you, all of you.
An old favorite song from one of the first videos of Andrea I saw (playing (the sax) and one of her first vocals. My, my, my how she growed up. And, as Paul Mason says, she just keeps exploring new territory. For just a hint of how much fun this much talent can have working together, watch Esteve's smile get broader and broader. Mine, too.
I just wonder, if @Christoph Mallinger remembered Walter Richard Langers decades long feature "Vocal --Instrumental - International" on OE3 (Austrian National Broadcasting Corporation ORF), where he had this tune as his signation. For me, from there, every single tone of the original (played by Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra) is stenciled into my musical memory. Great rendition here, stunning guitar solo, Esteve PI drives a wonderfull swing... and not to forget Andrea and Christoph as well as the bassman.... worth to be the opener of my next radio show at BluesArt Radio.
I'll search it up. Sounds unbelievable that once upon a time OE3 was used to be radiochannel with niveau. I know it from my dad.. Time flies by 😅 Abracada desde Barcelona
Andrea has played in many interesting locations and many new tunes, this is a new arrangement. Wouldn't it be nice if she updated her web site so journalists can sound informed when they write about her.
La intrduccion de Andrea ,es como.mejor, que la de Amstrong ; las improvisaciones me gusta que sean sobre el tema original y no se vuelen por ser virtuosos , que para mi es un defecto

Takes a genius to come up with a Sunny Side that is original and excellent. FAB !!!
Just wonderful! You folks have done so much to turn this bit-of-a-fan into a Jazz lover! Thank you!
Christooph I really love your music, coupled with the rest of the band and of course the incomparable Andrea Motis whom I dearly love.
FUN !!! Check out Dizzy and Sonny Stit 1958. So happy that these youngsters listen to the masters of the past.
They did, and happily played + sang that version from 2011 with appropriate children's joy. This one takes it to a new, grown-up level!
