We hope you enjoy our little experiment, nearly two months in the making. Let us know if you'd like to see more crystal growing and if you've ever tried it yourself.
Loved video of his personal favorite items and general overview of the greatest rock shop I have seen
I did, I did, but this is my thoughts since you're the experts I would think that you would develop a much better "mouse kit" than those that show up in the stores for parents& kids to do, but this is my thoughts by including extra like mini beakers, etc or the same price that they offer they sell their name, for their product but I know that you would stand behind yours. You would actually do R&D and yes you'd have unhappy customers duh that is to be expected "Karens" and "Kevins" exist a sad part of life. so just an idea from a subscriber.
I wonder what would happen if you added color...
@@maybee... Im going to do that as I saw many who do it already and im going to use natural food coloring. Im even wondering if the iron pyrite I have in tiny form could grow into or onto the crystals; I will test it out.
@Gemstones Do these homemade crystals have to be stored a certain way, like from humidity or avoid water; like salt crystals do? I notice some vids coating them in clear coat nail polish and you could use a clear coat dip or spray gloss too. Yours looked amazing at the end and no need for coating, unless it would help from air or water damage. I rockhound here in Cali and Oregon and find some great materials to cut, polish and tumble; but I never come across great formed quartz, other then tiny samples. This would be awesome to make up for the lack of finding that and looks fun to experiment with ideas. Thanks in advance, Chris
One more thing. Does it have to be in plastic or glass to make or can it be a metal pot? Thank you.
Be careful not to leave them out in a hot sun because the water evaporates leaving a powder clump. Learned that as a teenager with my mineral collection at a town fair!
You could wash the crystals off with an organic solvent to clean them (a liquid that doesn't dissolve the crystals), then place the crystals in an evacuated bell jar for long-term observational enjoyment.
That was a very cool episode. I've tried growing crystals and the results were disappointing, but from watching your video, I now know what I did wrong so back to drawing board. Thanks Elizabeth!
Love the one with the bigger crystals, i really enjoyed your process, thanks so much for sharing !!! And yes i would love to see more crystal videos👍😃
Thanks for the fun video. I did this once with globerite in a decorated bottle. The crystals were gorgeous for a couple of years. Then mysteriously dissolved back to brine. Will try again.
Whao, this crystal growing experiment video is amazing.😯😃 It's very interesting to see how to create them👩🔬🧫💎 and what they look like at the end. My favorite is the last big crystal. Thanks for showing us.👩🏫🙂💎
Another interesting episode! Thank you JTV team! 💎
Wow, those crystals were amazing! I’ve done the same with Copper Sulphate, just keep filtering out the solution every week. Those you made look quite difficult and delicate. But wow. Talking of Dendritic, I have a large Emerald that’s Dendritic, it looks amazing under a microscope. Great video, thanks for sharing. Rog from Wales U.K. 🏴
do you have a list of ingredients and instructions. my friends want to do this. thank you
@@michaelforget1475 Michael, there are plenty of videos on UA-cam demonstrating how.
emerald sounds exciting
Good tip on the Alum, I was going to try 1straight up, another with added epsom salt and the last one a mix of epsom & hydrated lime.
They're all awesome, you should have put some drops of green food colouring in and you'd have Kryptonite!🤣😂👍
This could be something really cool to attach to Warhammer bases or something.
I SOOOO WANNA DO THIS!!!! ❤❤❤ THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Great job
This is great!! I enjoyed watching this!!
Oh wow that's actually really dope loves it 👍👍
When you make the saturated solution all of the chemical needs to dissolve and become clear. When the water evaporates the solution becomes supersaturated which forces the chemical to deposit as crystals. If you cover the aquarium with cloth to keep out dust which settles on the surface you’ll have less problem with crystals growing on the surface and dropping on the top of the main specimen. If you prop the actual specimen on an inverted small glass it’ll keep the bottom growth from impinging or hang by a thread from a pencil to suspend above the bottom also. The growth can be adjusted to make hopper growth too which looks like steps around the crystals. Great video though, I used to grow them when I was a kid and loved it, copper sulphate, table salt and sodium thiosulphate ( alum)
Thanks for the heart. I expect you knew all I said already Elizabeth.
Omg I can’t wait to do this I have a fish tank just sitting around 😻
Wanna get psychedelic products, try out @morgan_drugz on Instagram, man got shrooms, dmt, lsd, chocolate bars and some other psych's.🍄🍄
I was just thinking of a aquarium like thing with a drain near the bottom
To prevent breakage could you line the jar or vessel with a type of wax paper to lift the crystal out, like a cupcake?
hi there, ime based in the UK & ime getting some practice on diferent compounds growing crytals before attempting to grow a KDP non linear optical single crystal for laser use,
your crystals are exceptional, ime going to try you fish tank thing with KDP with a magnetically levitated rotating platter in a thermally controlled pressurised tank to get a huge single crystal, thanks for the inspiration, i too love geology & general science. i will post my progress on facebook & try to make a video of it to show you my results or indeed fails, this project will be long as i need to get a perfect monolithic specimen so ime looking at 6 months at least i think if i control the tank correctly. Its a bit of a step up from just good old fashioned growing that ive done so far. i think i may do some of your ADP ones for fun as well. keep up the awesome crystal growing, its one of sciences dark arts
Congratulations! 👩🔬
That was fun! 😊
This was an awsome vidio. Ive made some Alum chrystals and borax crystals but i think ADP is the best. Only besides Amazon i dont know where to find it. Any ideas? I even looked at the ingredients in fertilizer. You sure to have patience i might add. 👍
I love this!
That was so cool! Thanks 😊
Glad you liked it!
I think that’s amazing. I have a big hzulanoite Chalcedon palm size. I’ve left it in the dark for a yr and it’s growing , so I have to find another lid. How can I add to mine
I made one for a crystal shop owner. It was fun I used epsom salt too.
Wanna get psychedelic products, try out @morgan_drugz on Instagram, man got shrooms, dmt, lsd, chocolate bars and some other psych's🍄🍄
cool....can you add colors to them? Do they have a prism effect with light? Is the Mohs scale really low on them?
Late to the party here. I love crystals of all forms and, I so enjoyed this video. I work with resins and love using pigments of all types and was wondering if they would combine in the crystal growth and if so, which types work better. Or by using different types of impurities like chromium in trace amounts would they grow green like an emerald. One of my favorite resin casts was a large green 6-sided barrel growing from a black matrix.
Too bad we can’t share photos. I’d love to see it.
@@kitten8699 Might could work something out. I will sub to you and see if I can send you a pic. I don't do Instagram it's above my pay grade.; )
Maybe you could try an image hosting site. There some where you upload the images and anyone who has the link can see the pictures. That way you can share your work with people you want to and not drop your pay grade (I loved this line lol).
I also really want to see your work! It sounds like it is beautiful.
so cool!!! 🤩✨
Looks like fun, what about adding food color for variation? Thanks for sharing 🤗
We've tried food color in the past and had less than impressive results. But we are going to try a recipe for some color crystals in the near future.
After you get the crystal to the size you want it add warm water a little past room temp, let it sit 10 min or so then pour out the water add your colour. When you're happy with it, slowly add cool water until covered. Let it sit 5 min and this should seal the colour into the crystal.
interesting topic
I have a crystal hedgehog I made that uses this process! I bought it at my local museum just out of support so I just did the process once. However, I wish I knew that I could just repeat the process on the same crystals!
I might have to do it in the future with a differently dyed color to see what happens!
How about adding a drop of food coloring like I used to do as a kid with the ammonia/laundry bluing formula?
Please more crystals !! Can you grow these in different colors????
Add food colouring
Awesome video sweet seeing you nervous at the start lol like cooking some u can’t change you did fantastic magnificent turn out awesome awesome more knowledge on do,s and don’t awesome video thank u
Thanks for watching!
@@gems I had to watch the beginning 3 times. I'm a biologist, and ADP automaticly means Adenosine Diphosphate in my head (it's part of making ATP, which our cells use for energy). I was so confused for a minute! 😅
Truely you are 💎 Gem
13;27 You may not have been good at operation but your hands work really fast. Thats still pretty good.
I wish I had the patience to do this. But those turned out great!
Thank you 🙏🏽 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Honestly, I'd love to see using this and real gemstone to grow a hybrid stone.
I Love your sarcastic humor!
Awesome!!! Where can I buy that ADP stuff??
Cool!
Where can you get the chemicals to do this?
I think you can preserve those in clear resin
I really don't know the first thing about Crystals (and energy), so would these be what I hear people refer to as 'synthetic crystals'? If so, what is the main difference?
hello...tell me here how you do this ...i want to tell me the materials.....right here please...i am from napal ...thank you
What type of crystals are the classed.as
Where did u buy the powders?
Amazing crystals "Fertilizer"
Great👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😄🙏🏻
Those are gorgeous! Would this be safe to make if you have a pet bird in the house (they are sensitive to scents).
I don't think the smell will negatively affect your bird as long as you have a well ventilated area in which you are growing your crystals. But, I should mention that the table we did this on does now have a curious inclination of accumulating dead insects.
Hi, this looks amazing, I have one question, do you put the crystal back in to hot water or cool water
When you are trying to continue growing it, you want to put it back in warm, saturated water. If it is too hot, the water may dissolve some of the crystal. But if it is too cool, then the water may have already released some of the absorbed powder and you won't get much crystal growth. Really the saturation is the key.
If you filtered the max saturated substance after it settles for a moment to see what it won't absorb. Filter, before growing the bigger one . The left over crystals act like seed and make more smaller ones rather than adding to existing one
Before or after adding the alum?
Hi there...Loved this video. Just a quick question...Would these crystals remain intact for a long period of time? Are they as hard as earth grown crystals? Ok...that was two quick questions...
Thanks,
OCHO
Glad you liked it! The crystals should stay intact. We sprayed our's with a clear coat, just in case. In terms of hardness, that's a tricky question. Earth grown crystals can be very hard or very fragile. While we haven't conducted any hardness tests on our ADP specimens, the big prisms seem pretty sturdy, while the little crystals are quite fragile and flake easily.
Thanks for your reply
I'd like to see you hang a single scepter from above and see if it will make a large single crystal. This is how it's done in the semiconductor industry.
Wanna get psychedelic products, try out @morgan_drugz on Instagram, man got shrooms, dmt, lsd, chocolate bars and some other psych's.
Safety specs ? Gloves ?
how do u stabilize them ? so external elements wont hurt crystal ?
some people use clear nail polish. We just used a clear spray paint.
ive been watching alot of crystal growing videos and this one is by far the best one
why take them out like that when you could empty the liquid out, pop some tissue up in there and tap it out into the tissue? Seems like it could work.....
could you please tell us where we can purchase all that you used for your beautiful crystal clusters,I'm wanting to grow them for cancer patients at my cancer center 🙏 please
It's been awhile, but we're pretty sure this was where we got the Monoammonium phosphate/ADP: www.amazon.com/SeedRanch-Monoammonium-Phosphate-12-61-0-Soluble/dp/B077Y7DLKG
And this is definitely the Alum we used: www.amazon.com/Hoosier-Hill-Farm-Granulated-Pickle/dp/B00UVAG21A/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=Alum&qid=1654194691&sr=8-5
Good luck!
how about growing crystals of methamphetamine that size? that would be a cool display piece
Love this Do they need to varnish or anything to keep them ?
Thanks! We sprayed them with a clear coat of paint afterward to prevent deterioration.
@@gems But did they last? Because I've done similar and they eventually turned to powder.
From what I understand, after the solution dissolves, wait until it room temperature before you put your seed in. What I want to know is can we add ink, alcohol ink, paint of something to color to the solution?
We did not try that with these, but we tried with other colorless crystals that we grew. We got it very saturated, but the crystals still turned out very very pale.
can you add some food grade coloring like, say GREEN or RED? for some colored cystals? can you do that on next video to PART 1 of this video? oh and what happened to the fish tank? can it be used as a fish tank again? or is it wrecked for good?
I would never use for fish again! Too many tiny places for chemicals to hide and if there are any plastic parts in the frame they could absorb the chemicals. However, I would use it for plants🤓
I wonder if you put something like food coloring in it , if it would colorize them.
We tried it with some other crystals we grew and honestly, even with a heavy dose of food coloring, the color was underwhelming. However, our next crystal growing video will definitely have some impressively colored crystals. Can't wait to show you all!
Very nice, but how fragile are they?
They are pretty fragile. Definitely specimens for the shelf. Not something you'd wear on your finger day after day,
Is there any method of making them less brittle?
Cover with resin when you are done
Is there a place you would recommend to get ADP in bulk for a good price? II want to make a bunch with the kids
We go our monoammonium phosphate from "seedranch" on ebay and bought it in 2lb packages. We ended up buying quite a few packages (you'll really need a lot if you go the aquarium growing route). Best of luck, and as always, use great care in handling and preventing contact with skin or inhalation.
Wow, does it break easily?
The big thick prisms are pretty solid, but you have to be careful with the longer, thinner formations. We haven't conducted many tests on it, though. Maybe we'll do that in a future episode.
@@gems Wow, thank you.
Very nice video. I am sure it is a lot more difficult to grow these than it looks. Otherwise, there would have been a number of sellers who put these crystals out to sell for profits.
People do sell the crystals. It's not really difficult, just time consuming.
Add color....
You get extra in wanted crystals from too much solution and not enough water, too much water means it’s not gonna grow 😂
Next time try a metal bowl
I remember as a child occasionally getting the chance to try something like this... but the teachers usually stopped us at basically the stage of Day 2 or 3. This is really impressive, though. If I can find a spare fish tank someday, I'm going to try this out.
Thrift shops and second hand stores are a good place to find used tanks inexpensively ☺️
@@medicineheartds9631 Oh, I hadn't thought of that! Thank you! I'll have to take a look soon.
@@LamanKnight Happy hunting. 😊 You may be surprised by the number of large glass items that might work for a project like this. Think repurpose. 🤔🤭😉☺
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Time to get my infinity stones
After making this type of crystal, can it be exposed to wet places without melting?
Yeah, you just have to coat it with some kind of sealant.
@@gems I appreciate your fast response. What kind of sealant should I be looking for? Because I'm planning to expose this kind of crystal to a wet place. Is this crystal easy to break? Thank you so much
I forgot to ask, can I use a plastic container instead glass? Thank you
Eye protection. Dust mask . Gloves .
I have to ask, is Elizabeth from Tucson or does she just wear the shirts from the gem show? I live in Tucson and don't know of any women like her from here unfortunately
Elizabeth isn't originally from Tucson, but she is a big fan of the place. If you're in Tucson, you should definitely check out the Alfie Norville Gem & Mineral Museum. Elizabeth set up all the displays. We did a video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/gPrFlDWCxFk/v-deo.html
But it's even more impressive in person!
ok i started seeing ads for a UA-cam video and i loved this so i said to myself why not watch the actual video and give them money for it
Did you watch steven universe?
Umm you could have gone to target and bought a nat geo kit for liek $15 and grew 6 crystals in different colors guaranteed vs this more than complicated process you had here.
Next time.... if you want to grow more crystals, you shouldn't really touch them with your bare hands, because of the fat residuals they leave, hinder the crystals to grow bigger. That is reason for they just branched out and made small points
Horrible meandering of ..... "Like .... it's my first time."
Hehe, these are sold as fake quartz on Chinese websites
Wanna get psychedelic products, hit joy @morgan_drugz on Instagram, man got shrooms, dmt, lsd, chocolate bars and some other psych's🍄🍄🍄
You work with chemicals . No gloves and no safety glasses....very very unsafe.
This is pretty safe though
BECAREFUL CRYSTAL CAN KILL...
i cannot get mine to grow even with the store bought kits 🥲
