I'm doing BA in film and tv (first year) and it's been a rough month for me. Before coming to wits i never did anything related to filmmaking at high school or anywhere else so like on my first lecture i was so blank and i didnt know anything and approximately 80% of my classmates have been doing film for a very long time so that day i felt so small, like i didn't belong there and i still feel same way. What you're saying 3:41 i can relate to it.
Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. I know going from high school to university can be a very difficult transition, especially when you have no previous experience in your course. I was the same in first year. Most of the people in my year had done coding before and I had no experience. It was very difficult feeling like the odd one out but with a lot of dedication and hard work, I eventually caught up with everyone else and I felt less behind in class. So just work hard, keep going and definitely do not give up! I wish you the best of luck with the rest of your first year!😊

Hey! So that's a great question. I'm not entirely sure how the whole system works but here's what I suspect. So essentially a provisional acceptance guarantees you acceptance into the university under the condition that you meet the minimum requirements for your course. So for example, let's say when you applied for your course with your Grade 11 marks, your APS score was 47 and you got provisionally accepted. If the minimum requirement for your course is an APS score of 43 then you would need to meet that requirement for your matric results at the end of the year. So basically it's not a guarantee because I'm pretty sure if you don't meet the minimum requirements then you won't be accepted. As for the 5000 people getting accepted, I don't think this number is set in stone. For example, in my first year, there were supposed to be 200 first years doing computer science but we ended up being 350. I think it depends on who meets the requirements for the course. So don't relax and still work hard at the end of the year because if you have a high APS score then you could also be eligible for some scholarships! Hope this helps x

I noted there is some extension of deadlines for 2020 UK applications due to the virus does that mean if you apply you will also start classes this year ?
Hi! From what I know, they haven’t exactly extended deadlines. You can still “apply” but instead of choosing courses, you’ll be applying through clearing and filling any spaces any universities have in their courses. I would imagine that you would be able to start classes this year. But you would also have to get a visa which could take some time as well
Does that mean I will not be choosing the course I want ? If so will they decide for me or what ? If it takes a bit longer to get a visa what does it imply then ?
I didn’t apply through clearing so I really don’t know what the process is like. I think you can still look for the course you want to study but obviously most universities won’t have space for some courses so i would imagine it would just limit your choice of universities
As far as I know, Res rooms for first years are always sharing rooms. They do this to promote socializing. Especially if you move to Res without any of your highschool friends. Most of the times your roommate is your first friend.

Lastly is it possible two study mathematical science and computer science at the same time - like double major ?

If you were to apply for a visa now, chances are you wouldn’t be able to get into the UK until a few weeks after the semester has started
