Ok, so I was concerned about using category 3 yarn and a 3.5mm hook to make this, so I made xs. It was so small a child could wear it. So I upped the material again to a category 4 and 5mm hook. I think in terms of size, I should be a small. And with a 5mm hook, I fit the xs. I hope this helps everyone who like to experiment like me.
I am using Red Heart It's a Wrap and a Clover 2.25mm hook right now. Iam an xs to s onthe size scale right now is USA sizes and i ended up doing a chain of 40. Due to not seeing gauge posted anywhere, I measured it more based off how it looked compared to her hook. I also am placing the work upto my body as i go. I am only 15 rows i right now and so far its working out. I think I may need to increase for a few more rows past 22 to have it fit correctly for my body, but not by much; and I think that is more of a preference as well lol. I am more than willing to share a picture of my work when I'm done to show what it looks like using those items. I will try to figure out how toshare it to my channel haha. I dont think i have done that before. But i can send them too! *note I figure the slightly smaller hook meant I'd need to increase the base chain size to achieve the same size as xs or s. I also think that the yarn im using may be a true fingering weight wjere yours looks like due to its make-up (i.e. not tightly spun but strands together) allows for it to spread and lie slightly thicker. I would place yours in the 2 weight category but that is just my opinion. Love the pattern. This is the first time ive worked with aomething so thin. You gave me courage.
With 2,5 Hook it doesnt fit for a medium size. Too Big. I will try with a different Hook. Maybe a bigger one or a smallest one. It s really hard to décide for the moment. Thanks for the tuto. Verry good présentation. Easy top.
@@YarnsandFins and anyone else. My 1st mistake was is I wasted time trying to find a yarn perfect for the what she used. In her description box she says what yarn she used & hook, but as always just because that's what she used we dont have to. Not for beginners. The row 1 chain stitch counts for the different sizes are wrong. From xs (34) to s (40)- 6 stitch difference. Same for s to m. However from M to L, it’s a 7 count difference and only 5 from L to XL. It should be a 6 count difference between each size as each scallop requires 6 stitches. Also, the video mentions adding extra posts for the larger sizes but never clarifies when you’re supposed to do that. I figured it out but I wouldn’t recommend this video to a beginner.
Couldn’t find the right yarn size near me, so I experimented. In case anyone needs to know, if you use the yarn made for 5,5 hook and follow the instructions for XS it fits size medium. For laces I did 65 chains on the bottom and 45 for the top:)
Oooh ok increase every odd row. Somehow i missed that. Edit: ok i am making size extra large with weight 2 yarn (cotton kings twirls sultan) and using a 2.75m hook cuz I didn’t have to one she has. So far it is definitely wide enough to fit my bust (size 38dd in US size). I put this here to show that u can switch out the yarn and hooks. I’d say if ur using a lace weight tho u can kinda go up a size with hooks. My yarn is 4 strands together and is kind of like...slightly thicker than mercerized cotton. If you are using mercerized cotton then maybe go add more shells to yours. If you needed to add more shells to get your gauge than what is provided it would not be hard to do so. I thjnk ur starting chain would have to be multiples of 8 plus 2? Something like that. I tried it but it was ultimately too wide haha. But the increases ARE the same as all other sides. Trust me. If it looks too small keep going lol. If it’s not wide enough by row 21 then go back to the beginning and add shells! Or you could do a row or two extra of increases just be aware of your length. Another thing, increase rows are always on the back with bpdcs. I put all this here to help some folks who might be confused with the larger sizes!
This is so beautiful and you explained it so well it wasn't difficult for me to understand. I'm actually a newbie to crochet so I just wanna know if I want to make a back to the top as well how do I do it? Anyone can help me out here. Is making a separate piece the only way?
