You don't need to go into Rotterdam to get the train connection to Amsterdam. You can get off the metro at Schiedam Centtrum and catch the Amsterdam train from there. Saves at least an hour.

Did I miss the luxury? OK, the new trains are great, but the ship didn't sing to me. It was just a ferry. And while there's no restriction on luggage, there's precious little on Eurostar - as much as I can carry, for sure. And with prices from £39, I know how I'd go - £21 by Easijet!
