- Flanked by his efficient assistant Alex Horne, Greg Davies returns to remorselessly judge five quaking comics desperate to get their hands on his fabled golden head trophy. Joanne McNally, John Robins, Nick Mohammed, Sophie Willan and Steve Pemberton are the contestants hoping they still have a career after tasks involving roller blinds, a floating primate and, as is traditional, eggs.

In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion. - Комедії

the 2 hour meeting with productions lmao you can see Alex's hand go over his face awkwardly confirming it was a nightmare haha he should win for that alone
14:49
thought that's because technically it opens the curtain that though they're told they've only got 20 minutes it was obviously more.
@@kiradoteei always took that as that they’ve got 20 minutes to plan out what they want to do and then they come back at a later date when everything needed has arrived to film it
@@kiradotee I thought the 2 hr meeting was him getting yelled at for 2hrs
@@estherschick388 Yeah, there have been a lot of task where they only had limited time to plan, but got everything they wanted. Pretty sure this is standard for these tasks.
I feel like Alex always takes a few episodes to start really poking fun at the contestants in the studio so the fact that he already came at Sophie with “you know what you did” has me very excited to see what she’s going to bring to the series
Bridget 2.0?

I really thought she might pull Alex into the water with her from the way he chided her. lol

@@user-ts1kp5dj9q Thanks for the timestamp!
I'd say that's the hallmark of a production team that love their job
My mom and I watched this episode together. It was her first time seeing Taskmaster. About 20 min in she cautiously asks, "Are the two...men...partners?". Incredible.
Alex even mentioned his wife 6 minutes in

The image of Gary the Gorilla stoically floating down the river was both majestic and yet surprisingly right at home in the English countryside.

I’m a couple of hours outside of NYC. We discovered Taskmaster during pandemic and it quickly became our family show to watch together every evening. 😊
(Are you a Jackal?)
Yes, seeing them on Seth Meyers was great - two of my favourite worlds colliding! 😍
Confirmed! In NYC!
@lynnhettrick7588 I'm a jackal that is an ex-upstater! :D
Twelve minutes in and I'm grappling with the realization that I will become accustomed to seeing Nick in vampire-face by the end of the series.
So you're grappling with Nick's unlife.
Like Liza Tarbuck with a mustache
If you look in the water at 28:06 you can see that the production team has also come to grips with vampire nick as well.
Oh wow! Good spot! And nice touch production team!
As always thank you Taskmaster for making this available to the rest of the world on UA-cam!
Whoever made that happen is a saint. Truly.
I can only second this sentiment: thanks so much for sharing these here.
indeed! im out of the country for a bit so the fact that this is on youtube and i can watch it from where i am honestly is a lifesaver hahahah
Yes! It's one of my favorite shows and it's so nice I get to watch it outside of the UK.

Steve's performance in the final is a sign that he's got the show's logic down, gonna be a contender!
I immediately thought "he's a fan"
Not to mention he slayed that tie-breaker. I thought I was gonna be a nick fan, but I think I gotta go team Steve. Lolol
@@steveoconnivo9666 I really enjoyed Nick too though. The whole cast seems great

The gunners rarely win these days, it feels like.

I didn't get that line. :(
@@billbauer9795 "banger" is a briticism for sausages. It also refers to catchy songs.
@@DrZaius3141 Thank you so much for clarifying this for me! I kept hearing this word and I kept thinking that it has the same meaning as a "zinger". It hasn't occurred to me that it has a different meaning in the UK.
I know it from the phrase "bangers and mash". Glad I got it. I love word puns and Steve seems to be full of them. This'll be fun 😊
That’s when I legitimately started tearing up from laughing😂😂
The sudden realization and understanding that that's THIS friday made my day.
It must be a Good Friday! 😊
And next week it is an hour earlier! 🎉
The reveal of the waders is classic taskmaster
Steve is so good at writing stories with a shocking and devastating twist ending. Just as Eggbert Nobacon thought he evaded all the risk, his carelessness became his down fall as he let the door hit him on the way out. Thus ending the tragic tale of Eggbert and Shelly😢
it was like a real episode of inside no. 9
He's got the creative side down pat. As long as he does not do too badly with the physical side of executing his idea, he would be so formidable. Imagine he got his points from the first task. But then again, thanks to his lack of points from the first task, we got to witness the display of his power of quick lateral thinking.
Sophie is already a trainwreck and I love her for it. Nick is a fabulous contestant too
We really need the opposite of a champions series - a series devoted to the trainwrecks who bring the effort, really try, yet somehow misread things or just flail in the most amusing ways. Folks like Bridget or Nina from the Aussie Taskmaster.
She’s like Bridget and Katherine and I LOVE it. Favorite type of contestants.
@@roguishpaladin And from the original Taskmaster: David Baddiel, Joe Wilkinson and Lucy Beaumont to name a few.
I was SO waiting for Sophie to pull Alex into the lake after the pre-emptive comment "Not you Sophie, You're gonna have to wait, You know what you've done"...
for baiting me in....CURSE YOU LITTLE ALEX HORNE!!! 🤣
Yes, but that throwaway line about the scarecrow...wearing WADERS.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The production team for this show is incredible. The dramatic editing of the gorilla reveal was absolutely top tier.
The gasps of the actual suspense chucking bricks was Emmy worthy (or whatever they have in Britain)
I also really enjoyed the brick throwing - the setting, the pauses, and the fact someone changed the expression on the egg to be a little sadder after he broke.
🎶He says he's over 6ft, but he's 5ft 4, it's LITTLE ALEX HOOOORNE🎶

@oliveinpeace9627 That's a myth. Even his children know he's short, that's why they call him Little Alex Horne instead of Dad.
I just don't know how much that is in Shaqinahats.
He's just shy of 5 feet.
Nick Mohammed is such a delight to watch. Man's got that golden retriever energy! 🧡
Yes he does 😂
“I was gonna add it to the rest of my eggs for safety!” This cast is going to be a delight 😂😂
"You what?" "Confused, Steve." 🤣😂🤣
Steve's puns are masterful, and the amount they annoy Greg is only a bonus.
This season is going to ROCK.
i actually like Alex going for these awkward open end moments in his jokes and not doing the ancient punchline blueprint. That kind of trademark Alex Horne.
And i definitely love Greg always being irritated by it.
The two things might even be connected.
They are connected. In an interview, Alex describes the opening bit as trying to irritate Greg, to help Greg be an irritated taskmaster.
The "That's, that's what happens when you open a-" got me big time ngl
yes, love the awkward, weak punchlines.
in this case, Alex did have a punchline, it's just that Greg stepped on it. which, honestly, worked really well. 😎👍
@@JHNoble No, Greg's ranting _was_ the punchline! That was the can of worms that Alex metaphorically opened!

Going to check it out now...
Team task on episode 1 … I love the use of this camera when Alex pops up with Nick’s team
TM nerdy trivia alert:
1) The live task is a variation of the "draw a monster and make it (meaner, cuter, sexier) " in the Aussie series. Such a great party game!
2) According to the podcast, John Robins came up with the "Make Marmite" task in Season 5 while drinking with Alex and Tim Key.
They had that monster task in the UK series with Richard Herring etc (series 10?) if I remember correctly
Every season when I see the new cast I ALWAYS think "Nah, not as good as the last cast", and EVERY season by the end of each first episode I think "I like this cast".
I would love to know the artist’s involved in creating Greg’s portrait for each season. For me, they set the mood for the contestants and the tasks. Nicely done!❤
Agree! And also look at the TM house this season, so sharp! Excellent work
Oh I'm already in love with little gleeful dracula Nick 😭
Is it too early to be glued to my screen?
Thank you thank you from the US. Alex and Greg were great on Seth Meyers.
Excellent first episode, but no "what have we learned today" from Greg at the end??? Heartbreaking
One can hope that it was edited out due to time because of the tiebreaker and it happens the rest of the series!
I know, I'm enough of a TM addict to hang onto the last seconds, just to find out just what I've learned each episode. Alas, this leaves me with so many questions, now. Almost like an anthrophomorphic exsistential sausage.
@@BluntArrows 5 points for your humanity!
Tbf to Sophie, the middle of rivers absolutely can trap and kill you by sucking down your feet, which is why you typically wear quick-release waders if doing stuff in the middle of a river like that (of course, this varies by the actual makeup of river beds in different places)
I love both the Australian and the New Zealand versions of the show, but I honestly did miss Alex and Greg. I can't wait to see the rest of the season!
I heartily agree with your assessment of the NZL and AUS versions. Tom Gleeson is, imo, pretty comparable to Greg as TM with "lesser Tom" bringing a unique flavour to the role as assistant. My only complaint is the Dull as dishwater TM on NZL's version, Jeremy Wells. Paul Williams, however, was perfectly cast.
@@Klutech i think they did a great job in the UK version of casting a great Paul Williams role

They borrowed the studio task from Taskmaster Australia. 🎉
Here we have 5 people I don't know or vaguely know that I grew to love in just one episode.
I’m less than ten minutes in and I already love Nick’s energy. Very excited for this cast and this series!
I watch Taskmaster as kind of... a positive and motivating medium during my work day. I'll put on an entire series and zone in at certain moments-- hear some laughter-- catch some wonderful tunes from the Horne Section... but for the last, I dunno, few months, this has been borderline therapeutic.
Today, I easily watched this episode 12 times, I'm currently at it again, thoroughly enjoying being ALIVE, because Taskmaster exists.
(Thank you, Alex Horne, for giving me something to genuinely look forward to-- and a little man to love from afar.)
This is precisely what I do and feel. Almost eerily so.If you haven't checked out No More Jockeys, please add it to your treatment plan (go in order). Got me through the pandemic.
Legz Akimbo! -- a WONDERFUL reference to The League of Gentlemen! We are SO LUCKY to get to see Steve like this; I am BEYOND thrilled. It makes me so glad to be Local! (We didn't burn him!)
I like how every season there is at least one contestant that is pure madness scarce contained by a human form.
Still taking in Series 16...but as Lord Davies said about the start of that one "And we're off!" This one is off to a proper cracking start.
I discovered this show a couple months ago. Now I'm addicted. Thanks for making it free tho
I found it during the pandemic, searching for Old Gregg, something I watched in High School... And found Noel Fielding in this weird show... And after two episodes I was HOOKED!!!!

Weeee'reee back baby! The Kiwis and Aussies are great, but it's this show here, these two hosts, this director, this producer, this editor and everyone else that works on this show that really shines!
This was the original format and it was a roaring success in the UK so it was exported elsewhere. I’m going to be honest and say I doubt it would have a US version purely because US celebrities/comics would not be as willing to poke fun at themselves in these silly tasks as much as the Brits, Aussies or Kiwis.
@@Mordantine They did have a US version. It got a single season, and it failed miserably. It tried to copy the British format too closely and American comedy is a bit different so it didn't really work.
