It comes from playing 1.3k hours, and unfortunately it's something I'm can't explain very well. You'll notice I don't care that much about perks and I assign them willy-nilly. But I spend a lot of time thinking about where each unit goes on the battlefield. After a lot of practice, it has become second nature. Try it out. Don't move your guys for 3 min, just think about where you want to put each brother and what the AI will do in response. After a while you'll start to understand patterns.
