If we're to protect British wildlife, conservationists need to raising Cain over this miscarriage of justice. And, by the way, EXACTLY the same " won't be tolerated " message came at end of a televised investigation of misuse of public housing. Although the perpetrator was identified, it was an African man who had illegal use of precious city housing to trap and contain wild birds. He thought it a source of entertainment for a young son. Hundreds or thousands of birds died under deplorable conditions. The family didn't live there; it was just for birds. They had another council flat. Deterrent ??..The same man had been charged before for the same offence. In this case, he wad identified on TV. Interviewed, he sort of laughed it off. The people at public housing dragged that investigation on for two full years "to be sure of a prosecution". All the while, birds dying horribly, often beating themselves to death trying to escape. I wonder who paid to clean up the flat?
It is very clearly no deterrent at all. In this United States, perpetrators appear in trashy "newspapers" every week, but this has no deterrent effect whatsoever.
That is because the police are thick, while politicians generally have an education - not all of them; but most. Also, if drugs were legalized, many police officers would lose a substantial portion of their income.
Sentenced to six months in prison, plus suspended for two years; slap on the wrist; as usual in Britain!
