Dealing with speckled trout, if I catch a 21 inch trout under the proposed amendment, that fish has a chance to live and reproduce. A net will catch and kill most trout in a 14-24 inch size. Nets perform the job intended...no way to achieve reductions the DMF propose unless there are quotas across the board and adaptive seasons instead of waiting for a 5 year plan and then harsher limit reductions.
Bill, while the MFC stats show a 70+% decrease in those comm fishing and the number of trips they made between 1995 and 2022 what do the total pounds of catch and by-cath look like for the same period?
Well Bill it is good to hear someone acknowledge the restrictions put on commercial fishing in the past 20-30 years. That said I am an "ardent angler" but have also fished commecially in both NC and FL., You won't remember but back in the day a co-worker and I took you out to film a yellow fin show . The ocean was pretty "sporty" that day and we turned around at your request after clearing the shoals. I'd like to make a couple points that you may or may not agree with. First I have serious issues with the holier than thou catch and release fisherman who will sit on a school of 10 inch trout with mirro lures for hours. They either don't understand or care about post release mortality yet preach the gospell of "commercial fishermen bad". Secondly it is my opinion ( based on research and personal experience) that the long term damage to inland fisheries caused by waterfront developement / habitat and filter marsh loss far outweighs that of any current method of commercial fishing. It is unfortunate that with enough money and the right connections commercial developement on marshland / wetland does happen. Finally , I believe that dead release is absolutely wrongful waste! Putting my soap box away now. Have a nice day.
Good post. But in one point you are mistaken. You never took me out because I never, in the 1000 plus trips taken for television, never have I "requested" to turn back. Ever. This was how I made my living.
@@billhitchcock5117 Told you you wouldn't remember. Twenty something years back. 32 Albemarle. I was there to work the cockpit. Your camera guy wasn't happy , you weren't happy. You decided that it was too rough to get any good footage . We turned around. Was probably a good choice but I became unhappy because of the time I had into rigging the bait box.
@@KenFotos Sorry, but again-It couldn't have been me. I didn't have a camera guy. I was the camera guy for all of my shows. I wasn't producing any saltwater programs 20 years ago.
We, the REc or Ardent fishermen/women would like nets and trawls out of the inshore waters.....where the fish hatcheries are......NC is the only state in the union that still allows it. If there is a problem, let the biologists manage and not the politicians....if the REC or Ardent fishermen need a closed inshore season, let them decide.....

We need a new government party, then we can put in new people. From the inside out, we can dismantle all this and make it permanent
The 72% reduction is exactly what has ruined my life ! It was too much and unnecessary.
Tell it to a former tobacco farmer.
Now that 72 percent you have a chance now 90 percent next thing is all seafood is imported take a look at the blue crab industry
...but knows nothing about fishing
