Hey Rich I have a video request:
What about a psychological deep dive into the phenomena of UA-cam comments on small music artists or youtubers, where the gist of the comment is, "I love this person/thing, and I want more people to experience how awesome it is because it deserves recognition, but at the same time I don't want more people to experience it, because that somehow diminishes my experience of it."
Some of my thoughts on it:
1. People have a strong desire to be recognised as having approved of something before everybody else approved of it. They want to be able to cash in that social credit for an elevated social status.
2. The diminished experience part is a bit of a mystery to me though. I think it stems from the thing losing its potential social value. E.g. "I know this small music band is amazing and lots of other people will love me for sharing it with them, but now that this band is popular, the chances of them having heard of the band are significantly higher, thus the chances of me earning social status by telling them of the band are significantly lower"
Idk maybe that's all there is to it, but would be interesting to hear other people's thoughts on it.
social currency is a very interesting phenomena. i want to look more into that in the future

Although I have owned this book for several years, I have not gotten down to reading it yet. But tonight a few minutes ago, I could not fall asleep, and took the book out, and I did read this final section, and was impressed with how the author could summarize the contributions of the East to the West, and further how the West added to it. Also I notice that the elements of civilization given here were explained in detail in the first few chapters, and it looks like each of these elements are also explained for each civilization in turn. So this final section is a summation of the book; it also in a grand sweep summarizes the movement of history.

Your ability to command my entire attention while listening to your videos is something unobtainable by any other ASMRtist. Typically, I'm able to tune out what is being said or noises made and just let the video fall away in the background while I play video games, but with you, I simply cannot remove myself from your voice and whatever topic you are speaking of. LOVE LOVE Will Durant. This was absolutely fantastic! Have you ever listened to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History? If you love Will Durant you will love Dan Carlin. History is truly a way to find meaning and it is the way that we can connect to that timeless conversation of humanity, and engage with the thoughts and actions of the greatest minds.

@@LetsFindOut1 He was a journalist for years and I think it helps him ask the right kind of questions when he's reading history. He just asks questions I never would think to ask, which truly set the tone and atmosphere of the story. Also he takes like 6 months per episode with the theory that his content is evergreen and can be listened to for years to come like a documentary. I suppose ASMR is similar in that way. He's definitely unmatched in the Podcast world and my only regret is that he doesn't put out more episodes! I'm a huge fan of his and Will Durant is one of his idols too 😂 I feel like Carlin could do a pretty solid ASMR video too!

If not, I'm very curious as to where you read this. This vid was the first time I was introduced to that idea. And it was really liberating, cause I've always been a bit obsessed about leaving a large, but positive footprint as my legacy.

Have you thought about going back and trying to do that alternating soft spoken/whispering pattern you kind of did in the past for example: your black hole civilizations video with music. I enjoy your videos overall, but the videos like that are the ones I have on repeat when I need em'. Haven't heard that pattern in a while and was just wondering.
