Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the universe or we are not, both are equally terrifying.
-Arthur C. Clarke
great quote
Damn
Smart people know we’re not alone
Daniel hernandez
Or a third possibility, that life exists elsewhere, but only in microscopic level, or even non intelligent life (less intelligent life like animals) in which case I wouldn’t say we are alone, but neither would I say that we are not.
For being a professional writer, he used a run-on sentence.
You could be a great audiobook narrator.
He's gonna be a greatest scientists
If you wanted to put people to bed. Lol. Jkjk. Its true...you need a serious book-reading side-job.
It's probably not coincidental that as a chemist my favorite quote of his is "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Thanks for this reading!
Incredible synchrony! I read that short story just a couple of weeks ago (or more, this quarantine is really starting to distort time and space). Keep up the good work, it's always so interesting to watch your videos!
A socially-distant hug from Italy
thanks federico🙏🏽
Rich. Beautiful video and thank you again for the shout out. Keep doing what you're doing man.
my pleasure
Can you consider making this a series? Reading SciFi short stories. Thanks!! Great video as always 👍
I miss your content man I hope your doing alright 😔
HE HAS RETURNED!! Or atleast he posted a video saying new content otw
I can already tell this is going to be a good video
I’m not sure if you’ve read it already but I think The Egg would be a pretty good story to read as well
ill give it a look
Is this the same, The Egg, that Kurzgesagt did a video of? If so, yes check it out, it’s trippy but fascinating.
I've lost track of how many times I've watched this but I NEVER get to the end. I pass out sometime near when you give the shoutout to Benjamin for his book. Great work dude. Really.
Man i cant get enough of your content keep it up💪 especially the history and philosophy 👍
This is my favourite! It never showed up on my sub-list so I JUST found it after wondering if you've uploaded anything recently xD
Excellent reading voice :]
absolutely love your content. i mean no disrespect to other asmrtists but for some reason i get restless when they ramble about random things, so i really appreciate how well spoken and topical your videos are.
WONDERFUL! Thank you very much. Very clever way to read a story, enjoyed it very much and your voice is PERFECT for this. You have a new subscriber who will share for sure.
You always hit different
This will now always be the best reading of this story
One of my all-time favorites. Thank you so much for this. Your voice is perfect for it. ♥️
🙏🏽
Amazing video so far... major major congratulations on the 100k !!! Well deserved in my opinion and a great way of celebrating all the hard work you have put in to the Chanel...
thanks michael
You are the most underrated channel on UA-cam bro
🙏🏽
Glad to see you’re doing well. I would like to see you cover the Ramayan next
I am 60 yrs old, more or less, i remember reading this story when i was 10 or 11. It was in a scifi anthology of stories. As soon as i saw this video I remembered the story. Thank you for this reading and thank you for the memory it engendered!
Please do more rambles about these type of subjects. Have been around since 4k subs and have always LOVED when you explain deeper meanings and knit pick details to reflect upon.
Noted!
Duly noted. 📝
oh my god! when I found you out you had like 10k subscribers. i've been away for a while and the channel has grown so much!!! I am so happy you deserve the world
thanks for that Ss
I read this story for a class and it scares me the more I think about it, the terror and possible guilt the tech guys must have been feeling while literally watching the universe disappear, chilling.
You really just edited alllll of that? That’s dedication. 💯 Love the video, btw. (as always)
lol it took forever. i was hoping to offset my awful narration
Let's Find Out ASMR oh please, your narration is what makes me go to sleep 😴 it’s great!
@@LetsFindOut1 thankyou deeply & sincerly for all you create, much respect from belgium♥
Thank you for another interesting video! Never would have stumbled upon this story on my own
God: ok universe say my real name
Universe: *humans say all his real names
God: took u long enough, well goodbye universe
Rich is awesome at teaching us history and asmr 😎
I never knew the reading voice in my head was real.
Exquisite video!
After 9 months, This still remains my favorite ASMR video! (:
I'm usually more into rain sounds than ASMR, but something about your voice is so calming! I'm definitely a fan.
My cat also seems to like your voice, as she rubs her muzzle on the phone whenever I start one of your videos. (I usually grab her for a nap and we both enjoy falling asleep to your voice and the other sounds)
So I just wanted to say thank you!
Thank you emypony
My man How did you become so knowledgeable about so many different things? And how are you so good at drawing? How did you come across all these dope books? I have so many questions… keep doing great things!
30 secs and this is gold to my ears already!
Gosh the bass sounds so GOOD
This was fantastic. Thank you very much
So interesting and cool! I love this!
Watching your videos from Afghanistan. You are awesome man with your fantastic voice and dedication. Keep up the good job.
Most of my life I am scared and confused and angry over small things. But you make me calm and focused. Thank you, honestly.
Ok, confirmed, this is the best video of this quarantine. You're great
Juan Carlos Lopez Salazar thanks so much!
You have the most relaxing voice. You can definitely be a voice over artist. I am a new fan here. :)
Nessa ASMR thank you so much Nessa! I will keep up the great work and keep my stick on the ice
It's so hard to relax when I have Neil degrasse Tyson stating me down
Your doing great, keep up the good work! 👍👍👍
ASMR soft spoken video on The Holocaust and WW2 mysteries please.
New to the channel glad i found it! Dope content!
15:55 kinda scared me
Great video homie
Yo do a video series on the principia. You explain things very well and I could use help breaking down some of this wording and mathematical terms. Appreciate it.
I would love to hear more about your thoughts regarding language and mathematics, as a linguistics student I am really intrigued by that subject matter
Laura Leggings thanks for the input! Duly noted
Can you PLEASE do short stories weekly?
interesting suggestion....
Hey thanks for this video! Ur vids are replete with pure knowledge 😇. As an astronomy enthusiast, I can surely relate to some of ur great ones... my personal fav- the Mercury one 😃. So keep up the good work and keep enlightening us!
And...what music did u use at the beginning and end of the video? It's so "astronomical" and sets the mood. I guess I have heard the music in my StarWalk app, not sure though.
Shivang Misra hah so comical! Thanks for the love and support! I will be sure to keep up the content!
i got an add for how to lucid dream so i lucid dreamed while listening to this
Have read his 2001 and Rama series. Missed this gem. Nice!
Neeraj Mundayur thanks for the support Newark!
I'm still waiting for: Drawing of the second planet: Venus -,-
4:03-4:20 That was hilarious, especially with the sound turned down
Hey friend. It’s been a while. I hope you’re doing well.
iggy's adventures I am doing fantastic! Thank you so much for asking! Since you asked, well lately I’ve been clipping my toenails and walking off to x videos, what have your days been consumed by Iggy? Subscribe please and thanks
@@officialyoutubechannelofja831 You must be a very interesting person.
@@officialyoutubechannelofja831 I don't think anyone asked.
@@gynaecide4382 technically someone did ask 🤷♀️ and it wasn't specified who he was asking. I thought the response was hilarious lol
Outstanding video! More astronomy videos please!
You have a deep pitch.. I can easily say you have a great manly voice.. I've been a subscriber for your podcast from the beginning of 2020..keep going
I’m a huge Arthur C Clarke fan, never clicked on a video faster! BUT if you liked the dichotomy of religion and machine you really should read A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller, it revolves around the preservation of knowledge after nuclear holocaust
cool. thanks for the suggestion
Such an original book! Both cleverly funny and thoughtful sci-fi. Must be on any sci-fi reading list.
Well done Rich.👍👍
Thank you for this
John Hughes no problem pal!
Wow can we get more sci fi stories
lol i have read this short story imagining the monk as dalai llama as well 😂
The ending to me seemed to suggest something more along the lines of The Singularity. If we use machines to replace human striving, and AI takes over, then the purpose of life is kind of over.
Im watching and listening to this now in july and im like did they find all the names 🤭🤭
He’s still active on Instagram/twitter guys. He’s probably just busy with life.
I read this in 7th grade. Has been looking for it ever since.
I miss your regular uploads and early patreon releases...I hope we see you again soon
Is he on a hiatus?
hope you & your family are doing ok, take good care & when all is good 'you are missed' :)
You could read the manual of a microwave and I'd still enjoy it lol! I do agree with what someone else posted here, I'm also hoping for another whispered video soon! 🙏
I just noticed it's been about a month since you last posted, I hope you are doing ok! Stay safe!
Ooh you should read “The Last Question” by Isaac Asimov!
great suggestion. someone suggested that a while back and i never got around to it.
Nightfall by Asimov great as well
LFO-"Terribilota is a great story and really captures the feel of Italy."
How I picture Terribilita- A blonde Italian boy with a piano kills pink haired man with multiple personality syndrome as a turtle possessed by a french man, a guy with a pistol, and a woman with pink hair watch in amazement as the blonde boy says "Korega... Requim, Da
I'll probably comment this on every upload now- you should do a n analysis of a Borges story!
This channel is pretty badass
Thank you, Owen Wilson.
Sometimes my headphones glitch and it opens Siri therefore I I’m going to sleep and then BEEP BEEP goes Siri as she wakes me up rudely
Can you please do more videos with whispering?
Lol his lama voice imitation
lol
What happened to your video on Elon Musk? That was one of my favorites and I can’t seem to find it! Keep up the great work man!
i may have deleted it.. a new, better one is on my to-do
Nice to see ya, rich! :D I hope you stick around for a little while :))
👌🏽
Woah
Third possibility: there is no universe 🦉
Finally!!!!
More astronomy videos please :(
Serious flaw in this story. At the end one of them say look all the stars are going out. It would take at least 4 years before the first one went out and then longer and longer as the ones further away went out
I'm sure an omnipotent power could arrange a work around
I don't believe in God. I believe in good. -Zed
My guy really hit 100k subs then dipped
Can you do an ASMR about Hindu mythology or maybe Asian mythologies like Japanese, please?
Please do a video of all of your intros
Yousif.B Matti duly noted yousif.
Finally saw the video, rather than simply listen. These pictures lmao
Not one of my fav Clarkes but this will ZZZZZZZZZZ
Whoa
I wanna be this guys friend so bad I'm lacking a "smart" friend
♥
Have you read any of Ted Chiang’s work? I think you might be fond of it. Xx
never heard of him. I'll look into it thanks for the suggestion
Sounds like the universe was coming back at them so it would just ultra clap them
"if all the names of god are written out the world ends...."
and then 2020 happend :
- almost ww3
- Australia burned
- Australia drowned
- Covid 19 became a pandemic
- Chernobyl emits 16 times more radiation then usual (that happend on 4.6.2020)
How could it have happened on the 4 of June 2020 when it's only April... are u a time traveller🤔😂
@@teresa-.-656 April, 6th 2020 the way americans write a date...
@@ilnoct oh ok makes sense haha, we write it differently here
@@teresa-.-656 well yes but the time travel thing is funnier :D
I almost read the story as one of God’s punishment (ie ending the world). He punishes the scientists for leaving early and thus turning their backs on Him. But He also punishes the monks for giving up their virtue of patience and completing His work using man made technology. And I like how you said that we’ve always based our sense of the direction on the stars. So the stars going out I guess like symbolizes the characters in the story losing their way, in a moral and religious sense
wow that's really perceptive. perfect symbolism of losing our direction.
Hey sir quick question. Whatever happened to your "Japan history" video? It was probably my favorite one of yours.
I probably took it down in the great purge of sub-par videos last year. ill be doing a much better episode on Japanese history soon though
Hell ya! This is the way.
Shangri-La is a map in Call of Duty zombies i didn't know it was a real place
KunaiClipz it’s not actually real
Dylan Stewart he said it was a real place
Dylan Stewart oh nvm
Dylan Stewart it’s Fictional
[👁👁👁]Facinating video-📺mate.
Young Zennist thanks man appreciate the support!
