It is Amazing that this little guy can boost up to 100 Watts on the GPU while remaining under 75 degrees while the GTX 1650 in my XPS 7590 can only go to 45 Watts before hitting that limit. Well done!
It almost keeps up with my huuuge alienware area 51m r2 with 2080super
@@MashITTech they definitely did something right in the cooling department there!
Say 'ello to my little fren.
My wife after reading the title: Yes, performance is important!!
Haha and my wife “it’s a good job size isn’t important” 😂
Really funny hahaha
Great review. Was choosing between the Blade 15 advanced and this one but with all the issues with the QHD Blade 15s, im sold on the 14.
I’m very very jealous aka happy for you, I’d love this laptop but the price point is a bit 🥵
What’s happening with them I was looking at the 15 and 17
I've found a used one for around £1150. Wandering whether to switch from my XPS 9310.
Wow that’s an incredible price! If you game at all then it’s well worth the switch. It’s bigger and heavier than an xps and the charger is also pretty large and cumbersome but compared to any other gaming laptop it’s tiny
@@MashITTech Agreed, it's super tiny and cute for a gaming notebook. But I like the size and portability of the XPS. And especially the design. Not sure if I could let it go. And I can't have both, I'm just a poor disabled pensioner. HAHA
Honestly, Razer priced this device fairly. They could have charged anything since no one else has something this good in 14', highly considering getting the RTX 3070 version, thanks for the review and screen size comparisons.
What are thermals when playing any high demanding game with low CPU and low GPU custom razer synapse settings?
Just got my Blade 14 , used and in good condition, just under $800. Although the battery is dead, it's no issue for me because I use it as a desktop replacement. It truly is an amazing machine.
hows the laptop running for you? I got it a few months ago and its been an amazing laptop for me. No issues
@@paulrodriguez20 No issues, absolutely. Sure, it gets quite hot under stress, but it does not bother me at all. The only thing I wish is an additional RAM slot but it's no big deal either.
@@JohnnyJamesGio I wish I could have 32gbs of ram, but I trade my macbook for it and I slapped on a camo skin and it looks amazing. I get great battery life and it plays all my games while being light and small enough to bring into any room with it. I was nervous getting it because it came out 3 years ago but my macbook was also 3 years ago, but it runs and looks as if I just bought it brand new. Also repasted the cpu and gpu and it runs great. Feels good someone else in 2024 is using this like me!
I’m on the fence for a blade 14 vs x15 . So looking forward to your next comparison video
They both have vapour chamber cooling
I’m going to be mixed use gaming and graphic design. But I’m coming from years of MacBooks and right now a well specced gaming rig. I dont want to go back to Mac . So I’m looking for longevity. Although the razer looks great as a portable powerhouse i need it to last long. Alienware seems better for longevity but i could be wrong. Just need to do a hands on the x15 as i have tried the m15 variants and liked what i saw. Razer is slick looking and feeling but the longevity is what is keeping me on the fence
Well I am going to compare the x15 vs the blade 14 this week. I also want to get the new blade 15 in when it arrives but you are right, razer caps the wattage to keep the temps cooler so they never perform as well as alienware. Also because they are a lump of metal they radiate heat so even the palm test gets hot. The alienware on the other had have far more cent grills so not only run at a higher wattage but are cooler to the touch too
Awesome video!! and i want to ask you about Hp omen got a new 17 inch version 2 weeks before any idea about it?
If you could only pick either the Alienware m15 r5 or Razer 14 which would it be?
Razer blade 14. I much prefer it over the m15r5. The m15r5 is a much cheaper machine though
Great review. Currently, I'm using a ThinkPad X1 carbon gen9. It is a good laptop. But sometimes, I still need to use AutoCAD and Solidworks. In addition, it always became slow when I am teaching online and playing a video at the same time. So I am thinking to switch to the Blade (6900HX with DDr5). Is that a good idea or not?
Its a great machine and has plenty of power. The keyboard is a step down over your carbon and also it is a 16:9 screen as opposed to your 16:10 but other than that you should have no problems
I didn’t know about the keyboard backlit outside the US ... could you explain it better? how can I buy a razer laptop and aboid the second class keyboard? :(
I tried my best to show it by adjusting the light. But if you look at a keyboard, all the letters/numbers are lit but the secondary functions like the question mark, exclamation, media keys etc etc are not lit. If you live outside of the USA and get a non U.K. keyboard (like our U.K. iso) this is what you get, there is no other option here.
What do you think the best use case for this laptop would be? It’s for sure pretty sweet but it seems really niche.
Unrelated though, having tested both the X17 and the Legion 7 Gen 6, which would you prefer?
I can see this for someone that does a lot of travelling but still wants to fame on the go. They obviously need deep pockets too 😂
I love both the legion and the alienware x17 and would really struggle to choose but I prefer the looks and build on the alienware and some of the features on the legion. Ultimately I prefer a 17” so kept the x17 for myself
Hi David, thank you for the next professional and helpful video. Is it possible to do a versus video between the m15 Ryzen RTX 3070 and the Razer 14 RTX 3070! I would buy one of them. What do you recommend for flight simulator and 3D Konstruktion with Inventor ? Best regards and go ahead!
I didn’t get to keep the m15r5 😢 I am going to compare the x15 to the blade 14 so hope that will be useful. From using both laptops I prefer the blade to the m15r5 and temps were very similar. Build quality was much better on the blade than r5
I picked up the same spec Alienware Area 51m r2 you had in your review and I believe you really liked and have been using. I'm still in my return period and am debating swapping it for the Blade 14 3070 model you reviewed. Would you be happy using the Blade 14 as your everyday computer vs the Area 51m? I have a 34 inch Alienware monitor that I will be having my laptop hooked up to most of the time, so I know the Blade 14 would be much more portable and easier to travel with, but wanted your opinion between the two being it sounds like you really like both of them. Keep up the great work on the reviews, they are really helpful, and your channel is one of the first ones I look for when I'm looking at new computers. Thanks again!
Hi bart, this is a really tough one as yes I love my area 51m r2, it is my personal laptop and I have now even upgraded it to a 2080 super. Mine also stays hooked up to the AW3420DW 34" ultrawide. I have also loved using the blade 14 much more than I expected to. I think the best way I could answer you is how are you planning on using the laptop when its in laptop mode (not docked). If you plan on moving it around, lap use, you need battery life then get the blade 14. If you rarely take it away from your desk and when you do it will be used on a desk to game then keep the area 51m r2. I hope this helps
@@MashITTech Thank you so much for the quick reply, I really do appreciate it. I've been going back and forth for the last few days, but the more I think about it I'm leaning towards keeping the Area 51m as I don't think I'll be traveling with it too much. I do love the size and looks of the Blade 14 but only having 16gb of non-upgradeable RAM and limited to 1 NVME drive is a bit of a letdown.
Thank you again for letting me know what you think, I really appreciate it.
Great review! Could you tell me the relation of razer synapse options and temperature? I mean, 95 degrees seems too hot. Is it possible to decrease the temperature in Low profile? How much performance will be lost and how much cooler?
I am going to look at this in an upcoming video 👍
@@MashITTech Tks a lot man. I'll be waiting for this. Please, try using ryzer controller too haha
I sure will if I can’t get the level of control I need in synapse 👍
@@MashITTech please, don't forget it. There is no video like this yet hahahahaha
I just got it as well.. I will always have a second laptop now if one fails, and this is actually usable for travel, in fact it's ideal.. plus it has freesync. My only complaint was the max 16GB ram, but what can you do LOL.. It was this or the G14 but that has a 3060, so I caved and got the razer.. plus, why not own one really cool laptop. I think this is also going to be *incredible* for PS2/PS3/Wii U /Xbox 360 emulation on the go:)
The g14 has a much lower tgp too so the razer is a much better product 👍 you have gone all out lately 😂
@@MashITTech I paid the equivalent of 1700 GBP with ship.. I am starting to freak out about the 16GB ram though🤣😂
TBH I have always wanted an ultra portable, and this was actually the best specced one, period. The latencymon is so low it's better than some desktops... it's going to be fantastic for music production on the go as well as gaming (sample streaming is where the ram limit will hurt though). I then looked at the 15 advanced 240hz with g sync and 3080/11800h and upgradeable ram (32gb standard) and second nvme slot and I sort of wish I went for it, but the latencymon, although OK, is no where near as good as the 14, and it was 1100 GBP more.. not worth it for 16 gigs of ram and actually a slightly slower cpu. So I think when I calm down at all the spending, I'll be happy. I was going to get a desktop though, and now I'm not.. the 17 permanently in studio and also to extra QHD monitor, the 14" in my room :) So these are basically my main 2 and total computers now, although I need to get a cheap mac mini to load all my old logic songs and convert them to Pro Tools. Another day, enough for now.😁 (Ps was ebay official razer store, they had a 15% coupon plus I offered 100 less on top and they accepted.. some stores selling it though for what you paid still.. )
@@teddym2808 wow that’s an amazing price! Where was that from and what spec did you get? The Mac mini is awesome too, I use one in the studio for recording the video audio, reading/writing scripts and even some of the editing. I love that the fans never spin up
@@MashITTech Spec is 3070, 5900HX, 1440P 14", 1TB SSD, 16Gb ram.
Aussie official Razer store on ebay.. they've undercut everyone, and there's a current 15% coupon for ebay plus that got me an extra 300 off, and I used "make an offer" to get an extra 100. They had 2 left, I presume he just wanted to get rid of them to make way for win 11 ones, but I WANT win 10, So I'm happy.
There's also a 17", 10875h, 3080 8GB, 1TB SSD, 32GB ram, 300Hz 1080P for a couple hundred less than the 14.. the early 2021 razer 17 pro. I almost got that, but before 11th gen, razer were really limiting the power on the CPU, and it just wasn't as portable. But definitely a wonderful laptop for someone wanting a fast new gaming laptop with a bit of champagne prestige at a beer price. Its literally one of the cheapest laptops in the store right now with those specs (8 core/32gb/3080), if not THE cheapest, vs all other brands! Again, getting rid of them I'd say. The 11th gen are hideously expensive and the 15 advanced is also VERY pricey.. double what I paid for the 14.
Exact price was 3199 AUD, so actually 1750 GBP to be precise. I rounded down out of laziness before. 😁
Yeah hate that the media keys do not light up 🤬
I live in the United States, if I ever decide to replace the charger can I just buy a US charger or does it HAVE to be a UK charger? Thanks!
They are auto switching, the chargers are the same in the U.K. or the USA! You just use the correct plug and you are good to go 👍
@@MashITTech thank you so much, love your vids man!
disable the cpu boost and cpu temp wont pass 75C
Does the hdmi connect directly to the GPU? Will it overcome Optimus?
Yes it does and it has HDMI 2.1
I did buy the blade 14 with a 3070 and it is amazing
This has helped me big time and thank u
Glad it helped
Good review, well done. Are you planning to review the asus rog zephyrus g15 rtx 3080 160hz display? Would like to see a comparison of this to the new Razer 14, and other laptops!
I have been trying to get the G15 in for a while but its been constantly out of stock in the UK :( the one time I saw it in stock I had no budget left which was typical
@@MashITTech I see, all good mate can relate. The most expensive spec is in stock: uk.store.asus.com/90nr04j1-m00360-asus-rog-zephyrus-g15.html
Not sure if that's the one you want to get.
I got mine few days ago, I personally think its the best well rounded laptop of the year with few minor drawbacks. Keep the HQ videos up lad!
Oh wow, I didn’t even think to try asus direct! I will go and check it out. And thanks 👍
Hi David- I have this exact same model and tried updating to the latest bios that was released on July 23rd. It completely bricked it and I had to send it back yesterday. Just an FYI.
Oh no, that’s terrible. I updated mine the day I got it and fortunately and went through fine
Thank you for another wonderful review!
Were you able to test the USB-C charging capabilities? Eg. How long it took to get back to half a charge. I heard from another reviewer, that he used the smallest 65W Charger and it worked (to charge), without giving full power performance possibilities of course.
But I'm not sure if I'd destroy something, so I'd really appreciate your input!
Thanks and all the best!
I am going to do a performance deep dive and for part of that I will be testing a few different power banks ands USBC adapters :)
@@MashITTech awesome! Thank you for the reply and thanks a lot for the effort you put in! :)
waiting for x17 3080 performance vid.. I need to order one but am confused should go for 3070 or 3080????
3070 for p/p and that beauty charger brick. 3080 for raw performance. Me personally, i will settle down with 3080, i’m okay with huge charging brick since i need that 16gb vram ...or 3060 if my wallet hurt xD
Yes sorry mate, that is still on the list, I just wanted to get a non alienware video out two as my channel seems pure alienware lately :)
@@MashITTech No worries just eagerly waiting for your review. Great work as always....
@@NamelessPassenger Yes I was also thinking that in few years 16gb vram will be the new normal...
Has anyone ever had a processor or component die due to being over 90 degrees? I think the temps are quite bad seeing as the processor is only at about 36w in games.
Not that I know of and I have had macs last for years whilst regularly hitting 100c. That said I do prefer cooler temps
@@MashITTech That's good to know. I'm always trying to keep temps low as well but I have 3 years warranty on my Dell G5 5500 and I'm wondering do I just whack it in high performance and not care lol
Yes, sometime you can worry to much and not just enjoy your purchase. I spend way too much of my time, tweaking and monitoring temps 😂
@@MashITTech I'm currently baffled by fallen order whacking my temps up. Its doing rdr2 at around 80 cpu 70 gpu but fallen order is taking me to the 90s and 80gpu. I've reposted so happy with temps in most games other than this annoying ea title!
I'm sorry to ask is the under volting video planned?
I plan on doing a deep dive video but there is no undervolt software available for ryzen yet 😢
@@MashITTech is there one for intel? Cuz I have an alienware x15
Ah sorry your comment came up on my blade 14 video so assumed that’s what you had. Then yes there will be for the X series 👍
@@MashITTech yeah thank u for telling can't wait
I want to get the 3070, but it sold or backorder everywhere
Oh that is so annoying! that sums this year up! loads of good laptops, can't buy any :(
they need to create white version with HS processors. HX is overkill and makes it unnecessarily hot
Yeah the hx seems like they are just trying to justify the high price
The blade 14 is a great machine.... I really considered it.... I was on the fence between the blade 14/ 15 advance and x15.... I chose the x15.... They all are great laptops hehe.
Razer recently updated their 17 inch laptop too. The new 17" blade looks really good too! hehe
It could be just me but seeing such high temps worries me a bit :D
Yes me too, but I have had a few Ryzen laptops now with similar temps! I plan on doing an x15 vs blade 14 video Monday/Tuesday 👍
How is your 15 I’m thinking between the 15 and 17 but iv seen bad reviews on the 15
@@michaeltrujillojr.4322 Overall I am really happy with the Alienware x15 and would pick it up again.
I went with i9 / 3070 / 32GB / 1TB / basic screen.
(My biggest concern to NOT recommend) From what I see online, this is a lottery thing: It took me a while to get used to the fans as they are a bit high pitched and I am really sensitive to sound.
The laptop is actually silent most of the time and even when the fans really kick in on full, I can drown out the whole noise just by using headphones. Really happy about that.
Even though the x15 is small... its a bit too wide to fit correctly in my bag (does not fit in the laptop pocket haha ).
For games, its fine. In COD Warzone, with full fans its normally around 77 degrees for CPU and 70ish for GPU with 100+ FPS.
I offset in the BIOS the temperature thing so that it will not go over 85 Degrees, just in case.
In general use, the temperatures are around mid 40s to the 60s... depending on what I am doing..... (image editing, programming, video editing). I really can't complain. Its all good.
Normally, I travel / work in different places all the time, I needed the portability so I went with the x15.
The x17 seems like a more "complete" package in most ways...
It's like my Laptop but this one is more Powerful like a Beast
How do I connect this to monitor I want setup
You have 2 choices, either a hdmi cable or a usbc cable/dock.
@@MashITTech oh ok. Thanks I think I'll be getting this instead of PC for now should not be a problem for couple hours gaming ?
No problem at all! I used mine though my 34” ultrawide for hours with no issue 👍
@@MashITTech wanna get a setup going need desk and I'm assuming u can connect a mouse and keyboard with the laptop want the PC experience too
you sure can. I use a dock and have all the cables connected to the dock then it is just one cable to the laptop with everything I need

This versus the new 11th gen Razer nlade 15?
hoping to do that soon, we havent got the 11th gen blade in the UK yet :(
@@MashITTech I’m planning to preorder the 15 inch it’s available in the US .. hoping to get it by the beginning of August … owning the blade 14 2014 was a quite good experience but high temperatures chassis do still remain?
Yes, the chassis gets pretty hot but then about the same as my 2020 blade 15
@@MashITTech What about the new Vapor Chamber cooling system?!
Good review. I feel like there are much better options out there considering how both DIMMs and even the storage are soldered. G15 Advantage Edition, for example, is cheaper, faster, has slotted storage and memory, and has a better display, though Razer has a better design overall.
The storage isn’t soldered but there is only 1 slot so you Willis need to buy an expensive 2 or 4tb drive to expand the storage over the 1tb it ships with. You are basically paying a fortune for the size and built quality. I have loved my time using it but for less money I also bought a dell x17 with 165w 3080, 11800h, 32gb ram which performs much better. You must really need the portability to spend this much
How can u compare it to the g15? They are different classes. G15 is thicker, larger and cheaper build. It has way more surface area to fit stuff. The comparison is just illogical.
My Dell g3 3500 also running same as razer 14 hitting 100 c it is ok my Dell is Intel i510300h performance is. Same as other gaming laptops but they are running cool my laptop is running hot and giving same performance why?
Dell G3's don't have the best cooling performance. I haven't tested your model but is there a high fan setting you can try?
@@MashITTech it is running 100 c but no performance loss can you tell me why?
Not easily without looking at your machine. It could be the cooling solution is not upto the job or a bad paste job. Do you run afterburner whilst gaming to see how the temps rise?
@@MashITTech yes I use when I play gta 5 cpu is above 90 c and GPU is above 70 c
I changed my thermal paste thermal grizzly kryonanut
How's the coil whine???
I have been lucky, I have noticed no coil whine at all!
Make a blade 15 vs Alienware x15
I am doing a blade 14 vs X15 next. I don't have the new blade 15 in yet
14 inch is a bit too small for me nice review keep up the good work mate

Letting this one go...? Let me know if it needs a home 😉😁
haha, wish I was rich enough :) enjoying this one so much it may stay with me and I normally buy 17" laptops for myself
I think this laptop and quite a few others of this form should be more looked at around their safety with ref to the heat these produce and this is one i will be mentioning to GPSR body of the government, not only are these lap[tops a fire risk they are a risk to a childs hand, im sorry but laptops should not get that hot and they should not have hardware that is not meant to run in that small of a chassis
You make a good point and Razers are known to run hot, even the power adapters can reach 50c!
Geeze that run hots lol
lol yes it does. I am going to try and tweak it to improve the temps soon
@@MashITTech cool 😄

For the price not worth it to me. Nothing really unique about it either, and you're overpaying for a gimped 3080.
Very true, you would have to really really need the most portable gaming laptop to justify this price
