    GM CM, I've found it easy to alternate on either count for a breath. I think being relaxed and comfortable helps. Slow is fast! 🏊🏽‍♂️🙏

    If I was asked to explain the 4 beat kick, I would say that it is 1/2 six beat kick, and 1/2 two kick beat pattern. I swim with 2 beat or 6 beat kick patterns. Even when swimming the 2 beat kick pattern, the feet seem to do tiny kicks on the 2 beat pattern. Kind of like they have their own memory of the pattern....

    Could you please add a detailed explanation as to how your kick beats (left of right) correlate with entering the water of the hands, the catch and pull phases of the stroke of the hands ((left/right)). Do you kick with opposite leg at the time you initiate the pull with the arm? Also, when do you do the 3 fast kicks depending on the side you are breathing (say right for the sake of example).

      Great question - I prefer to look at the connection from the entering arm. To quickly answer your question, you enter your opposite arm with the opposite leg kicking down.
      Even though this action seems simple, it takes a systematic approach of drill progressions, guided practice, and focus points to help you lock in the correct timing where you achieve a state of unconscious competence.

    I like to complete 4 beat kicks when the head is underwater, then pause and glide when taking a breath. Is this correct?
