Neve pull the reverse lever all the way back when backing up . NEVER . If you trip and fall the tractor will run you over and the implement will KILL you . A lot of people dont know how to handle a walk behind Gravely and cause danger to them selves . An old timer taught me how to operate and work on old walk behind Gravely's .
Yes i have a Simple solution for the Gravely when and for rota Cultivation .. This would mean making or setting a quick hitch for the hoeing mode where the handles are reversed ...ie come behind the Rota of the rotary hoe unit ... as in a Howard Rotary hoe ... even with a dedicated hoe only system ... one needs three passes to get to a seed bed from straight grass an weeds etc with a gap between first second passes to get the new growth to germinate weed seeds ... to get a good seed bed ... adding a depth skid behind the rota also improves control of the tilth ... low speed reduction axels would improve tilth ... also would be great for snow blowing lol ... As mentioned by another comment unless the reverse hoeing mode had a deadman handle like many walk behind lawn mowers to day you are asking for serious injurys ... thats hard to explain to a partner if that occurs ....
dang the sound of the gravely brings back memories
