Let's not forget the absolute awesomeness that is Kipp Buckner on any song, tag, post, barbershop and much more! GHG is one of my favorite quartets! Thanks for the post!
I had the pleasure of seeing The Gas House Gang back around 1993 or 1994 a the Master's of Harmony Show. After the show Barbershoppers always have what's called an "Afterglow", a reception usually in a hall or hotel meeting room and local quarters sing and usually the guest quartet does a "Second" more intimate performance. The Afterglow when really long and it wasn't until after 2am that Gas House(after patiently listening to several local quartets) stood up and launched into "Strike Up the Band" which they had not released yet. They are four of the nicest, classiest people withing the Barbershop society. RIP Rob Henry.
The last chord of Alexander’s Ragtime Band (2:35) is so locked in it hurts... overtones EVERYWHERE. GHG is one of the all-time best quartets, if not THE best.
That first phrase of the tag of Old St. Louie (12:59) is one of the most beautiful (and difficult) in all of barbershop, and GHG effortlessly glide through it, nailing that bII7 and rootless V9 at the end with utter perfection.
i remember the Gas House gang singing on our show. I was Singing with the Kitsap Chordsmen at the time and this was right around the time rob was diagnosed the director and a few others knew but the chorus at large didn't. I sure wish we had. I miss rob.
Thing I love about barbershop is you don’t have to have the greatest voice It’s not about a great voice but the ability to sing in pitch blend Just think if it wasn’t for barbershop how many would have had a career singing I think ghg has a soft spot for me beacause our quartet came fifth this year in the Australian quartet competition and won the encouragement trophy Which wasn’t bad seeing I only joined the quartet six mths before competition Mary Lou was one of our numbers I loved that song because I got the opportunity to hit that last note Yes I was a tenor

Well Whaddya know? Look what just showed up in my iTunes list! Right up above 'Siddown yer rockin' the boat'! Thanks for the pointer, Kipp. I never would have seen it otherwise.
It would be great if Peter Van de Graaf (?) from 89.1 would feature the Gas House Gang's (barbershop) rendition of Motzart's Magic Flute. It's really good.
The guy in blue telling his story sounds just like the Smothers Brothers. Excellent. (Is that a compliment? It sounds like a compliment. (In joke for SB fans.))
My Old Man makes me tear up, no matter how many times I have heard them sing it over so many years. Something about their blend is just pure magic.

It would be physically impossible for me to agree more with this statement. Did they ever release it on a CD?
Yes we did. It is on a cd called A Little Night Music. Look for it on Spotify or iTunes or Amazon!
Well Whaddya know? Look what just showed up in my iTunes list! Right up above 'Siddown yer rockin' the boat'!

That's definately a compliment. 🙂
@@DJK3115 Interestingly, he is certainly a fan of them and, in fact, My Old Man, is one of their routines. :)
WOW!
Love it!
The... mullet...
Wat waren dit toch een toppers.
Anyone know why Rob and Kipp switched sides?
I would assume it has to do with which song they were singing and how the harmonies were written.
Best quartet of all time. Bar none.
