Feel the same way you do. Would love to pilot 787, 747, L-1011, Concorde, Boeing 314, and a Grumman Goose (in the Palawan Islands and the Caribbean)! Been 'simming" these for years
Awesome video and content. Keep up with the amazing work. My best regards to you and your channel / business. GOD bless you and your family, and your channel.
Landed in Tokyo on Christmas Day, then on to Bangkok landing Christmas night. Business and first class on JAL made for an excellent Christmas present with Japanese and international delicacies served. Didn't have to worry about all the family issues of Christmas Day activities. The pilots did the driving and those lovely Japanese flight attendants took real good care of us!!
I believe they are GE GENX engines. Very quiet; very efficient, however they have had issues with engine deicing. This May have limited some of the routes that Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways use it for the plane. I have flown aboard 17 times since 11/2012 and am always amazed at how quiet and comfortable the plane is. The humidifiers are fantastic, so your skin and contact lenses don't dry out during long flights. Finally, because the cabin altitude is only 6000 feet as opposed to the industry standard 8000 feet, you feel significantly less fatigued when you land even in a different time zone. If you haven't flown the 787, you haven't really flown!
+pds866 They are the GENX - the icing issue happened with the GENX-2B67 first, but there were some issues also with the 787s.The problem first occurred on 747-8 freighters. Not sure about JAL, but ANA is using the Rolls Royce Trent 1000, they have not had icing issues with that engine.
I think they’re. GENx engines. Fantastic airplane. Quiet, comfortable, efficient, and luxurious smooth ride at 550 knots. It really is a “Dreamliner”!!
Yes, I was very fortunate... the sunlight, engine rotation, and iPhone camera frame rate were all in sync... it was the start of a great experience on Japan Airlines!! Complete confidence in their entire operation from fantastic cabin service, super hygiene (always!!), to their Maintenance & Engineering, for a worry-free, comfortable flight... Boston-Tokyo (NRT),-Saigon
Julio Romeresto ACTUALLY! ( me being on a dozen of them ). It depends on where you sit on them. I was actually heart broken ( sitting towards the end of the aircraft ). I did not hear the Hydraulics at all =/. Some places its VERY loud and some you can hear it and some places not at all.
Raphael Bisang Of course they are, fighters and commercial airliners even use the same type (though airliner jet engines have a much higher bypass ratio)
Definitely a Boeing 787-800. One of the first delivered to Japan Airlines. They use this plane exclusively on the Tokyo-Boston Run. It's an Incredible airplane
That will be a very nice flight. Go to seat guru and see the most comfortable seats for your flight. Those big windows are great to look out of. Have a great fight.
they put huge effort into smoothing everything down, reducing the weight of the seats, and the engine's fuel economy. That cabin is supposed to have long metal fatigue and longevity. turns me to jelly thinking of all the work that culminates in these things every single time
The engine roar is definitely quieter, but in it's place there is a very piercing 4400HZ sound that's much more irritating than the engine roaring. The hydraulics also seem to be louder than on other planes, but maybe that's caused by the lack of engine noise.
It’s a Dream to fly in, and a Dream for the airlines with excellent reliability, economy, and customer satisfaction. So many new, “avant gard” technologies created and built into the machine. It’s truly amazing!!
For everyone whining here about how quiet the engine is: this is the future. We can't have loud noises and too much jet exhaust because it causes polar bears to struggle finding ice burgs to hang out on.
Almost 14 hours. It's great in the 787. The cabin is about 60 quieter probably because the carbon fiber doesn't resonate as much as the all clad. The humidity is well maintained, and the cabin altitude pressurization equivalent is about 6k feet as opposed to 8k on most planes. Easier to breathe
Oh i see it. It's an optical illusion, the blades were already spinning, but it just looked like they were close to stand-still althou they were already spinning right before spool-up.
The 787 -8 and -9's can fly about 8400-8600 miles. -10 can go about 7400 miles. You should check out the London to Perth route from Qantas. Possibly the longest route ever being put into place for a 787 dreamliner.
+Seandale Jackson because the camera is recording at 30fps, meaning it takes 30 photos every second, it just looked like the engine was not spinning very fast, as the blades would have been in the same sort of position each time. Usually the pilot starts the engines up on pushback, as he can't taki without them. What powers the plane while you are boarding is a small engine at the back called the Auxillery Power Unit, or APU. This is the noise you hear while boarding. While the plane is on the ground, and is not fuelled, but still neads power, an electric generatior called the Ground Power Unit or GPU is connected.
Hi, No, it's an optical illusion created by video "frame rate" coupled with light reflection from the engine fan blades. That's why the blades seem to stand still, then change rotational direction as the blades spin faster and faster. Pretty neat (and unexpected!). Have a great day
Thanks my man, stay well. That had me going for awhile, I'm thinking, boy those engines have gotten really reliable if he can start it after taxi to the runway and just know there wont be a fault.
I never noticed that, but yes, you’re correct! There’s a 737 with a red tail in the video, on 22R. It rolls and takes off before we do. Good eye Zacchary!
Me too!! It was a fabulous flight. JAL has one of the best business and first class services in commercial aviation!! I’ve flown in many, and still find it higher quality, attention to detail, fine Cuisine and outstanding beverages & liquors. More important is their consistency and safety!!
Why on earth would someone build a 12-story building all but exactly aligned with a runway just 400m from the threshold (see at 2:32)? From the markings in RWY 14 no approaches are made from that side but still, take-offs from RWY 32 could get interesting indeed. They might as well paint a large target on that facade.
Corisco, the reason why someone would build a 12 story building there, is because the building was there before the runway! That building you see is the Hyatt harborside hotel, and its been there for I think at least 20 years. The runway that you see there is 14/32 and it was built only about 5 or 6 years ago. That runway is only used for small regional jet landings when the airport gets busy, the small birds on 32, the big ones on 33L. No takeoffs occur on 32, and very seldomly does one occur on 14. In general, this runway is seldomly used.
Hairy, the question remains. Why on earth would someone build a runway just about aligned and only 400m from a 12-story building. I get it, it is seldom used (so was not a great idea after all), but when it is, if something goes wrong it could potentially go horribly so. Not trying to be a smat *ss, just remarking a most unusual runway/building coexistence. Cheers!
I like the 787 but I'm just not hearing that buzz at take off that i love so much you know the one that you get from a 777 or 737 now thats music to me lol
That wasn't dangerous at all . A single bird like that can't do anything to General Electric GEnx engine of the Boeing 787 . It's not a Bombardier Challenger private jet , it's a Boeing 787 ! We're talking about possibilty of bird strike when the plane flies near a group of large-sized birds . I said a " group " . But only 1 small bird damages the engine of the 787 ?? No , It cannot happen .
JAL 787-800. Departing Boston for Tokyo on December 24. Beautiful day and flight on an amazing airplane. Superb service. Thank you for your interest, viewing, and comment on my video
look how smooth that engine is, how fine tuned it must be, his rpms clearly match the camera speed with very little fluctuation
I never fly, but, watching these vids, there sure is a big difference between planes. Love reading the comments.
I envy every pilot who were given the privilege to fly this beauty. A lot like how I envied the pilots who flew the Concord.
Feel the same way you do. Would love to pilot 787, 747, L-1011, Concorde, Boeing 314, and a Grumman Goose (in the Palawan Islands and the Caribbean)! Been 'simming" these for years
Wow, watching the blades go round on that engine was pretty cool. Nice video.
Awesome video and content. Keep up with the amazing work. My best regards to you and your channel / business. GOD bless you and your family, and your channel.

pds866 What was the route of the flight.? I mean I feel stupid thinking it could have been a direct flight..from Boston all the way to Narita.
***** How many hours??
what airline bos to nrt
I believe they are GE GENX engines. Very quiet; very efficient, however they have had issues with engine deicing. This May have limited some of the routes that Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways use it for the plane.

Yeah those are GENX 1B engines you can tell by the fan
Carbon fiber blades with steel alloy leading edges. so sweet!
I don't like to fly on it, it doesn't make the roar sound
sad dude
What a noise! Very quiet, no loud roar. Very good! I hate the other loud engines. - Owner's nephew, Abdullah
I think they’re. GENx engines. Fantastic airplane. Quiet, comfortable, efficient, and luxurious smooth ride at 550 knots. It really is a “Dreamliner”!!
These are GEnx engines
Love the compressor blades synchronised with the camera shutter!
0:52 the framerate ligns up with the engines which makes it look like there not spining
Nice shoes! And loved the crossed legs haha excellent
Nice video. One day I will fly in the 787. On a side note, not sure if those socks go with brown shoes. Still great coverage.
it is engines not quiet. just all cameras automatically reduce the sound level record when sound run high.
***** just recently flew on it. very quiet. love the plane very much
+Lorenzero Gaming its a marketing gimmick.
this airplane is quiet as hell.... impressive (: great film work!
Hell is full of screams. Not quiet as I would expect.
+Mr. Pivotgamer I (Niti Shehu) the 787 is full of loud screaming hydraulic pumps!
Julio Romeresto sooo does the 777-300ER and I love it when those things are workin (:
+Chris H. On the 777 they are not nearly as loud and they run mostly at a constant speed and just sound better in general.
Thats soo quiet. I like the older, louder jet engines.
You said it. Give me a big GE rumbling down the runway any day.
727!
Raphael Bisang Of course they are, fighters and commercial airliners even use the same type (though airliner jet engines have a much higher bypass ratio)
+Raphael Bisang Yeah, they are turbofan jet engines. what the hell else would you call it?
enya
هاذا انا حجزت عليها الى النرويج ثلاث تذاكر قبل موعد سفر بثمان شهور مجنون سفر والقطرية جننتني بحبها
Heard the 707 noise after this video... My ears pained a lot.... I can see how much these engines have developed since the '60s
The noise is so sweet upon the start of the take off
I love that genx sound
me too
Definitely a Boeing 787-800. One of the first delivered to Japan Airlines. They use this plane exclusively on the Tokyo-Boston Run. It's an Incredible airplane
thank you for not showing me the wingflex at takeoff! Why would you film it that way?
this guy would rather shoot the airport then what everyone wants to see so yea i totally agree. Video sucks ass.
the focus was the engine not the wing m80s
Why would you dislike just because of that?
A sensational takeoff video! Fantastic job!
Thanks.
Beautiful aircraft. Much better than the lousy Airbus. Boeing really knows how to make airplanes. Silky smooth.
Great video!
I think it is a Japan Airlines 787-8
These engines are super quiet
spectacular
Those engines are very quiet! They are just amazing!
I love GE
Both are quiet, okay and none is better
That will be a very nice flight. Go to seat guru and see the most comfortable seats for your flight. Those big windows are great to look out of. Have a great fight.
2:32. Doesn't that sound like is has a low frequency humming noise? Almost like a buzzsaw but not quite?
It’s a typical sound for the hi bypass engines on newer airliners. Power settings account for the changes in sound pitch
they put huge effort into smoothing everything down, reducing the weight of the seats, and the engine's fuel economy. That cabin is supposed to have long metal fatigue and longevity. turns me to jelly thinking of all the work that culminates in these things every single time
Shot video for fun; I was on a business trip
Cool. Merry Christmas in Tokyo I hope.
It was a great time. Spent christmas j Vietnam, but had a week in Kyoto that was amazing
Very nice video.......................
The engine roar is definitely quieter, but in it's place there is a very piercing 4400HZ sound that's much more irritating than the engine roaring. The hydraulics also seem to be louder than on other planes, but maybe that's caused by the lack of engine noise.
That engine is beautifull
I love GE, PW and sometimes rolls royce
Great sound...good video...
flew to tokyo on the 787, thought it was just another plane. flew back on a old 767, i was like NNNOOOOOOO I WANT THE 787 BACK LOL!!!!!!
Are these GE or RR?
GEnx
Seems quieter and smoother than other planes
The 787 ain’t called the Dreamliner for nothing!
It’s a Dream to fly in, and a Dream for the airlines with excellent reliability, economy, and customer satisfaction. So many new, “avant gard” technologies created and built into the machine. It’s truly amazing!!
@@paul866 you got that right!
Boston.. Tokyo... small world huh
Taking off on Christmas Eve in America and landing on the day after Christmas in Japan. What a way to spend Christmas-flying in a plane!
Landed Tokyo at 1400 Christmas Day. The Sakura Lounge (1st Class) was a delight, and all the staff were amazing.
I real happy cause i'm taking it in a couple days. From Singapore to Narita!
Wow, it is amazing how quiet those GEnx engines are!
I love GE
For everyone whining here about how quiet the engine is: this is the future. We can't have loud noises and too much jet exhaust because it causes polar bears to struggle finding ice burgs to hang out on.
GE nx 787 are same exact sound to 747-8! They were slighty differents.
No they different with sounds 787 sounds exact like a 777
What's noticeable on the Dreamliner is how quickly it gets off the ground.
Nice footage. The 787 engine really is quite!! I´m sure you enjoyed the ride not to mention the view?
Flying out of Boston tomorrow.
This is a JAL (Japan Airlines) 787 powered by GEnx-1B engines
Beautiful day for a flight
I bet that was a LONG flight
Almost 14 hours. It's great in the 787. The cabin is about 60 quieter probably because the carbon fiber doesn't resonate as much as the all clad. The humidity is well maintained, and the cabin altitude pressurization equivalent is about 6k feet as opposed to 8k on most planes. Easier to breathe
I was flying with trents from sydney to London with Trents. So quiet.
And the A380 engines eventually start
Beautiful view of Boston.
The bird at 2:49 was a close call, you were lucky avoiding that bird...that things scare me off everytime.
I think it's the other way around--the bird is lucky it didn't hit the plane.
I heard the new dinosaur/hybrid in the upcoming film "Jurassic World" will have a roar this loud.
Astounding video
Oh i see it. It's an optical illusion, the blades were already spinning, but it just looked like they were close to stand-still althou they were already spinning right before spool-up.
How unusual that they don't have the corkscrew or similar painted on the fan hub.
We fly Emirates all over the World - love the 777-300 but you have to go on a A380-800 just an amazing aircraft
That is a ridiculously quiet engine.
boston to tokyo, god dam what a trip
how long a fight is this?
i remember flying to curacao wit a A330 that was waaaaayyyyy louder than this
AVIATION FTW
GENX?
What airline is it
What was with the abrubt ending? I wanted to see more of downtown Boston. 😔
Did not know 787 had that range for Boston to Tokyo...
The 787 -8 and -9's can fly about 8400-8600 miles. -10 can go about 7400 miles. You should check out the London to Perth route from Qantas. Possibly the longest route ever being put into place for a 787 dreamliner.
is it Japan AirLines?
This has a little roar to it :)
It does?
Did he start that engine just seconds before take off?
+Seandale Jackson because the camera is recording at 30fps, meaning it takes 30 photos every second, it just looked like the engine was not spinning very fast, as the blades would have been in the same sort of position each time. All good!

Where is the flight path of Boston to Narita? Is it across the North Pole?
Hi, It follows a great circle route across northern US, Canada, Alaska, and then down to Tokyo.
The could had have a parallel takeoff
I never noticed that, but yes, you’re correct! There’s a 737 with a red tail in the video, on 22R. It rolls and takes off before we do. Good eye Zacchary!
Wow! The air conditioning is louder than the engines!
Would like to be on it right now.
Me too!! It was a fabulous flight. JAL has one of the best business and first class services in commercial aviation!! I’ve flown in many, and still find it higher quality, attention to detail, fine Cuisine and outstanding beverages & liquors. More important is their consistency and safety!!
GGood evening all. It is Japan Airlines. Very comfortable flight with Great service
Is that a bird flying by at 2:49?

Whoever though of building that 12-story building right there sure is dumb. You have a good point.
the planes that takeoff that way would need a steep climb
Perhaps good spotting location
I like the 787 but I'm just not hearing that buzz at take off that i love so much you know the one that you get from a 777 or 737 now thats music to me lol
2019???
Did you see the bird at 2:48? It was so close!
Yeah it was
Man the flight was so lucky
+Guilland Anthony wow, yeh

+YJeey utter horse shit, anything going through a engine other than air or water will cause damage and require an abort
Lol where did the engine spiral go
Light wavelength/video frame rate convergence; it’s an interesting optical illusion. Look closely, and you can see the Fan disk is still spinning.
Nice quiet machine
Extremely quiet!
I'm digging the black socks with brown shoes! And my wife says I dress bad!! LOL
I'm flying on a 787 to Warsaw, Poland in November.
How was it?
it was so quiet, even the pilots thought they were taxiing...
too bad you didnt film the wings (with the wingflex) the whole time
Anybody catch the near seagull strike at 2:48?
At 2:36 and after, you can blast up your volume and hear a teeny tiny, muffled buzzsaw!
wait do genx has a roar?
What airline was this?
It's Japan Airline!
This is a ANA Boeing 787-8 right?
JAL 787-800. Departing Boston for Tokyo on December 24. Beautiful day and flight on an amazing airplane. Superb service. Thank you for your interest, viewing, and comment on my video
Is that ANA 787?
no
Japan Airlines?
Yes!
Just now cranking up a engine on the runway!?!?
I kept looking at the engine wondering if it was really moving. Reassured myself that it was but when it actually started i was like wtf..last minute!
+harshadso subscribe to watcher plane for JFK spotting vids
BTW I love the really quiet engine sound. If you like noisy badly insulated aircraft, fly an Airbus. They're crap. Boeing makes beautiful jet planes.
Seat number?
