Fascinating video, Dhruv. I was one of the 3 doctors employed by the Union Carbide, Bhopal, at the time of the gas disaster. However on the night of the leakage I was not on duty. On 2nd December at 9 PM I got a strong whiff of gas from the factory . My house is 2 kilometers away from the factory . At first , like many others , I thought it was phosgene (Which has the smell of freshly mown hay). But this was a much stronger, more suffocating smell, and I learned later that this was M.I.C (Methyl Iso Cyanate). I rang up the medical staff at Union Carbide and they confirmed a gas leakage and advised me to spray water on the walls of my house. By midnight the situation became intolerable. People in my locality came to know of the gas leakage and all of them bundled into their cars and left for safer, distant destinations. I didn't go because my tenants had left their dog behind, I had to take care of him and also of my own two dogs . I almost died that night. I was choking and coughing non stop and my eyes watered continuously. I thought since I was going to die anyway, I might as well wash my face and change my clothes so that my friends would find my body presentable ! The moment I splashed water on my face, the effect of the gas vanished . Later I learnt that water neutralizes M.I.C. I asked my family members to wash their faces and I put water soaked cloths around the dogs' noses. Well I survived. The next day I realized the extent and enormity of the disaster. Thousands had died and those who had died on the roads got their bodies crushed by fleeing vehicles. Cows, buffaloes and dogs died on the streets. My colleagues and I spent the next few days working round the clock, giving first aid to the survivors. We put eye drops, gave cough medicines, gave oxygen , and injections to relieve lung congestion. Those nightmarish moments will live with me forever.
My heart aches for the lives affected by the Bhopal gas tragedy. Let's use this platform to spread awareness and ensure such tragedies are never forgotten. May we strive for a world where safety and humanity always come first.
My tears can't stop rolling down even today after thinking about the struggles of my parents and people during the time of this tragedy. My father and his family was a victim of this tragedy, he tells us how he saw people running without thinking in the opposite direction and when they came back the next day, there were nothing but dead bodies wherever eye can see also there were people who were miraculously alive buried under the piles of bodies, shouting from inside help me help me. May those souls rest in peace.
My father was a college student during that period in Bhopal. He described how he, his brother, and his roommate ran to Neelbad Forest to be safe and got rescued later on.
Thanks for bringing this up, we live in Bhopal. This tragedy occurred 10 years before I was born . My parents and grandparents still recall that day. I get chills when my parents tell me that how they were coughing in the house and how they were seeing people were dying in front of them. By the grace of God, they survived but my grandmother is still suffering. The side effects were very severe. This gas created ulcers in my grandmother's stomach. 😢

Bhopal a prayer for rain 2014 is a must watch movie if you want to know exactly what was the cause of gas leakage it was very well directed by Ravi Kumar but unfortunately it was not recognized by Indians. I recommend everyone to watch this masterpiece.
Exactly, but you don't need a movie or series to get info a major event of past. Many of us don't know that it happened during midnight hours most people died in their sleep. I watched prayer for rain few years back I guess it was in 2016, that movie to some extend depicts 1984 tragedy accurately, but failed to show that union carbide falsely claimed that MIC safe to inhale, which one the other hand is shown in the railway men.

Hats off 🔥🔥 to the Gulam Dastagir for his honesty to the work and his commitment. We in India give respect to only the famous people but there are many hidden heroes in their field and they do their work silently without any credit.
Your documentary skillfully delved into the tragic events surrounding the Bhopal gas disaster, shedding light on the human stories, the socio-economic implications, and the enduring consequences of the incident. The way you presented the information was not only informative but also emotionally resonant, making it a compelling and thought-provoking watch.

Hats off 🔥🔥 to the Gulam Dastagir for his honesty to the work and his commitment. We in India give respect to only the famous people but there are many hidden heroes in their field and they do their work silently without any credit.
Dhruv's way of storytelling literally gives me goosebumps. Kudos to Team DR for being incredibly talented. ❤😊👏🏻
My Respect for Dhruv Rathee is increased day by day 📈📈📈
