As an experienced miner i can left a few tips and tricks here: -You can turn on and off your mining pick by just pressing the use button or clicking it, i normally left it off for most of the time and i only turn it on for extra tough rocks so you dont have to charge it several times. - Making a custom pick doesn't mean you have to ditch the old mining pick, it's still a better melee weapon against the sea creatures in the trench (if you happen to be in nadir or oshan) and anything that isn't a robot and it's also the only thing you have to break locks on treasure crates. -The geological scanner is pretty good to go hunting for artifacts and crates around the mining outpost and identify explosive rocks in erebite asteroids (which is a good way to mining them, just hit one rock and let the whole thing fall apart) -You can always go with making a bohrum pick (with any other metal for the handle) and mine pretty much any rock if you don't want to mess with custom picks too much. Hey man, great to see you making more SS13 vids, I heard about you a lot but knew you had been gone for a long time. I'm pretty new to SS13, so far I've progressed from Janitor to Miner. I like mining but I still feel really clumsy and you showed me a few shortcuts and streamlines here so thanks a lot! Love your vids, hope to see more!
Oh man, this is activating the neurons in my brain big time. I think mining may be how I finally convince myself to start playing (and by extension, learning how to play) this game.
If you want the super rare ore like starstones the Quantum Telescope is the way to go: If you get the "The scanner is picking up something else.." and skip it enough times (i think its like 10 or somthing) you get a garanteed starstone/other rare stuff instead of the standard stuff...
