Rest in paradise Chris. Your life has been an inspiration to so many...me included. Im sorry you had to die alone but ultimately your life was shared with the world! Godspeed Brother
I dont think its the movie exclusivelly but the meaning that we give to this whole existential search itself. That is what makes this a marvellous, touching and terrifying story.
time is just illusion, better just to have short life with full of what you like doing then spending long life in useless way doing something what makes your soul feel trapped :)
He didn’t though did he. He died a horrible death alone miles from the people who cared about him. Going out in a canoe, making a belt with an old man and working as a farmer is really living? Or you mean spending your last years alone on a rundown bus is living?
A powerful ending to a powerful film. When Eddie Vedder's voice starts soaring in the background, and we see Alexander's final portrait... Damn, that gave me some chills in the theater, and still does to this day. Great film.
The film makers really nailed the ending here. It made me feel kind of sad that Chris had died but at the same time happy that he had found his purpose in doing so and actually left a legacy of inspiration for others. Even if you're sceptical or close minded, I think we can all take something from this.
He did not find his purpose, he was lost and met his end. He regretted few things in the end for sure. He was too young to understand life or live most what life truly offers. But yes, he lived on his terms.
Eddie didn't write this song. That would be Indio. Back in the 80's. But, his soaring voice gives it creedence and a certain haunting quality. Good fit for the movie. Nice job choosing Eddie to do the music, Sean Penn.
big Mac agreed!!! I kept coming back to this movie and watching it again and again until suddenly I realized that the main reason was the soundtrack.....
I always come back to this movie, I've seen it so many times and have read the book. Chris has inspired me to travel , and not only that but to change my views on the world. I see things in a different way. I'm moving to Asia soon on my own, I want to see the world. But to most important thing to me in this life is being happy. I will be pursuing happiness but whilst maintaining my love for nature. Life isn't worth living unless we really challenge ourselves and come out of our comfort zones. Goodluck to everyone who has also been inspired by this story. May you tell your stories and encourage people of future generations to do the same.
Chill-inducing ending. When we see the river winding down in the background and Eddie Vedder's voice comes up, then McCandless real picture... Awesome.
Sad ending, but he died doing what he wanted. Did not realize it was a true story until the end. I dream to one day live off grid and already bought the land, but I just don't have the balls to do it the way he did. He just gave up everything and did it, and I have to applaud that.
This came out when I was 7 and me when I was 7 would not watch this movie for obvious reasons. It wasn’t until last weekend (I’m 21 now) when I finally watched this. There’s never been a movie that has inspired me like this. The way he lived and his outlook on life will always have an effect on me. It’s funny, Emile Hirsch was a huge part of my young life when he was speed racer and he remains so as Chris McCandless.
Después de mucho tiempo y por problemas mentales, decidí que mi vida no da para más así que así será mi forma de vida dentro de 2 semana por el sur. Saludos y adiós Buenos Aires.
This has been my Ultimate favorite movie of all time. The Ending was Beautiful, because he was finally FREE of these bondages and was going home. Just my opinion and people who judge this mans life have no Real clue unless they were in his shoes... I mean come on! Look at the Chemtrails in the sky at the very end? R.I.P. Chris
@MasculineClam Yep! The movie is Into The Wild, a very good movie about a college graduate Christopher McCandless, who abandoned his life behind and went 'tramping' with his new identity. You'd be amazed by him and somewhat even influenced. Furthermore, it is a true story!
There a lot of videos which disrespect his doing. I don’t think that anybody has the right to judge him. He'd a dream and he was willing to die for it… so wtf is your dream and would you be willing to die for it?
We really did die a happy man. The only tragedy was that help wasn’t far away. The only thing better than sharing a free spirited life in the wild, is sharing that free spirited life with someone else.
"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life-think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success."
When i talk to my friends about this movie ( I'm only 12 and French) so nobody know it I showed it to my friend and made a project about it. he went threw and this song gives me hope
Imagine having a vision for a movie, to tell such an incredible story, with such a talented lead and supporting actors, and then asking Eddie Vedder to contribute to that vision and he fucking elevates it to the stratosphere with this.
"Happiness only real when shared" ...what does this mean? He did not want to die. He wanted to share his happiness. But everyday out there, he was happy. To follow his dreams, to live by his philosophy makes him happy. His regret was that he died this way but it was not in what he did!
Good news: this bus will be on full display at the University of Alaska Fairbank’s Museum of the North. The interactive exhibition will allow everyone around the world inspired by McCandles' story to safely visit!
I didn't read the book but I watched the movie..after watching the movie I wanted to visit the magic bus ..but nah I said to myself he never stagnate himself at a place..this legend keeps moving..I am crying typing this..

What's most disturbing to me is when he couldn't cross the river because it was a raging torrent at that time. And I'm thinking to myself "Man, he HAD A KAYAK !!!!..."
without a doubt one of the best movie's ever made
Slight hyperbole. A good movie but drags quite a lot and is heavy with the prose. A great end scene, though.
Wish I could agree more than once.
Yep 👍 I also consider it the best movie
Yeah
Thanks Mr Pen .

there is soo much power in the self portrait. the fact he took a picture of himself for his family to know he was happy.

I agree. It took me a couple of viewings to realize the music was a integral part of what I liked about the movie.

I read somewhere it's not necessary to be strong but to feel strong.
It Is Really Sad Just How Chris Died Out There In The Wilderness All Alone. I Pray He Is Finally At Peace Now. This A Really Wonderful Movie To See.

Has to be the best ending scene in a movie..
There's something romantic about dying young.
There is something Romantic about living everyday
You must be soaking wet thinking about all of the young boys in the military getting killed
I get chills running through my whole body, EVERY time I hear Eddie Vedders voice. Such an emotional ending
This kinda movie could change your entire view on life 💜
I wish I could have rescued him.
I think that was everyone's thought after this scene.
