  • High fashion meets artful tradition in Marrakech, a city of just over one million. See another of our economical but lavish accommodations, this time Dar Attajmil. Be amazed by images of our diversified and always quality dining at: our mansion-hotel; another Clock Café; the Dar El Bacha Café (rich coffee in every sense of the word!); Yves Saint Laurent (Marrakech was his home) Museum Café; Dar Es Salaam, the plot-kicking restaurant of Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956); le Jardin Restaurant and MaisonMK Restaurant; and join us in a person's home for an Iftar picnic to break the fast (obviously not ours!) of the first day of the holy month of Ramadan 2023.
We soak up the ancient atmosphere. There is Marrakech's walled city centre (medina) with its earthy souks (markets) and the huge Djemaa El Fna Square (offering snake charmers, fortune tellers, story tellers, purveyors of games of chance...); also fragrant gardens (the Secret Garden and Garden Majorelle) and the Jewish quarter (Mellah), which includes Morocco's largest Jewish cemetery and the Lazama Synagogue.
There are museums galore...of photography, of music, the Berber Museum and more. Also see famous landmarks like the Bahia Palace, El Badi Palace, Saadian Tombs and Koutoubia Mosque.
Our visit to Morocco, in March 2023, predates the horrific 6.8 magnitude earthquake of September 8, 2023, centred near Marrakech. An estimated 3,000 people lost their lives and thousands were injured. In Marrakech, it is the old parts of the city that were harmed. For example, there was serious damage to the city walls and buildings in the medina and Jewish quarter. At the Djemaa El Fna Square, the minaret and part of the walls of the Kharbouch Mosque were toppled. The nearby, much taller tower of the Koutoubia Mosque was cracked. At the time of writing (August 2024), we understand that rebuilding and restoration in Marrakech are underway.
Remember, lovely Morocco is open for business and welcomes visitors.
David and I hope you enjoy this Lost In Morocco travel vlog.

Thanks for a wonderful visit to marvellous Marrakech. Wonderful light (natural and artificial) and shadows enhance the photography.
