A lot of people seem to not understand or misunderstand why I chose Quilt and not Fabric or Forge, so here's the long version of why; it's not just about the Fabric and Forge devs being bad people: I don't have any problem dissociating a project from the person behind it when that project is the best there is, however, Fabric's lead dev's transphobia genuinely got in the way of code contributions that would've been great additions to the loader's API (because some of these contributions were made by trans people). Certain systems like the custom biome, dimension or multipart APIs of Fabric have a lot of problems and sometimes straight up don't work, while these issues have been fixed on Quilt. For Forge, it's not so much about the devs being bad people, it's more that the way Forge does things genuinely got me to quit modding before I switched to Fabric when it first came out. If you're upset about the mod not being available to you because you don't wanna use Quilt, I can understand that. However, please also understand that if it weren't for Quilt, I probably wouldn't have updated my mod anyway, so you're technically not missing out on anything! I don't really have to justify myself for using Quilt, but I hope this gives you a little more insight! 🐀❤️
It's still a shame that you effectively killed off the Forge port by bottomtextdanny. To me, the moral of the story seems to be "watch out for mods licensed All Rights Reserved". You see, we have this wonderful modloader called Quilt because Fabric uses the Apache license so it can be modified and redistributed. I am not in the minecraft modding scene so I can't comment on Fabric dev's transphobia, or how horrible their API is. But what I can say is, their attitude to software licensing is in stark contrast to your decision to lock the mod down to Quilt and preventing others from porting it.
I understand this reasoning, and support it entirely. However, what is the purpose of locking down your mod and not allowing people to port it to Forge? Not wanting people to port it to Fabric for your own reasons makes sense, but why not Forge?
I got some ideas for ambience if you’re willing to hear them: -Warped and Crimson forests probably should have some spores. How are they going to reproduce? Perhaps if they were also glowing yellowish it could tie into the shroomlight being the main reproductive part of the trees, like a puffball. -Bedrock Fog or Smog used to be a feature in the early days, it was a cool little detail that made you feel like you were in a very pressurized bottom of the world. -broiling water at the tops of bubble columns, or magma vortexes could also have little whirlpools -the eyes in the dark could have a very low chance of being the same shape as the player’s eyes; a homage to when we were all afraid of herobrine
The void fog isn't a bedrock feature. Quoting the wiki : _"In prior versions of Minecraft (specifically Beta 1.8 Pre-release (2011) through Release 1.8 Snapshot 14w34b (2014) inclusive, up to its removal in 14w34c), a thick black fog was introduced. As the player descended below Y=17 in the Overworld, this fog would start to appear. As the player traveled deeper, the fog at the edge of the render distance would become closer until the player reached the first layers of bedrock, where visibility was reduced to just a few blocks, beyond which was complete darkness. The gray void particles appeared below Y=17, as well as in the void._ _The existence of this fog depended on a lack of sky lighting. If vent holes were opened up to allow sky light to enter an otherwise secluded underground space, void fog would no longer be present so long as the player kept near this sky light source._ _Void fog was removed late into 1.8's development for performance reasons and general community distaste"_
Bro made glow squid 10x more interesting, just imagine what map creators could have done with that. Like press a button that summons a invisible glow squid at an enemy’s location and boom you have a targeting system
It’s a crying shame that these effects, and features aren’t in Minecraft by default, and are a great, big, missed opportunity on the dev team’s part… These effects are truly gorgeous, and makes Minecraft look, and feel, even more alive than it ever was before!
if you’re willing to take suggestions, why not give the ancients plants special particles? The torch flowers could disperse little glowing petals that look like embers and the pitcher plants could make insects fill the air (like fireflies, blowflies, literally anything, maybe even butterflies and locusts). I think that’d be neat and add something of an incentive to babysit a dinosaur beyond babysitting a dinosaur.
That effect where particles from chorus plants fall on the surface of water stick to the surface should be part of the vanilla when cherry tree particles land on water.
@@sltrskid they can't just add random things that players want in one update. One is ocean themed second is mountain etc. And everything has to be carefully planed without changing Minecraft too much.
I love the rain on particle and splash effects. I think the cascade particles need to be toned down and possibly needs to be more reliant and the height of the waterfall, so that it isn't so overdone on small water flows. I also really like the chest opening and bubbles.
It seems that he never stops his roots growth. It's nice to see this mod again, so simple, yet so delightful. Cant wait for 2024 where he makes the end have an entire ambient upgrade.
I think the new ghast fireballs look too similar to the blaze fireballs and also feel a little weaker than they should. I feel that making them a tad bit bigger and also more reddish would help sell their power much better and also differentiate them from the blazes. Also, adding a cool ripple effect and maybe a short explosion-like sound effect to parrying could make it even more satisfiying to parry fireballs.
Very cool overall. The water effects can be a bit too intense/big I think. Especially when visually there's just a one block drop, I don't think there should be any particle effects at all. The mist is also a cool addition, but improving the effect so that it isn't as clearly "layered" and rotating would make it a lot better imo. Other than that, really cool. I think it's gonna be a standard addition to many modpacks.
Been using the mod for a bit and came here to say this. The cascade particles are completely opaque meaning they're completely blinding. When trying to fill areas with water it's a total dealbreaker. I think if you could tune the opacity via the config this would be much better.
I've been waiting for that Ultrakill reference since the video with the rideable rockets that look suspiciously like the rockets from Ultrakill, very great job with the effects Rat :)
The petal effect NEEDS to be added to normal trees too, it's probably my favorite effect out of all of these but I pretty much never even touch chorus flowers so it's sad to see it be so rare
I love how you succeeded into making Glow Squids work in ways that Mojang showed in their Minecon mobvote showcase, but failed miserably to code the hypnotizing effect on their side. They're like Mesmers in Subnautica and I love it.
I genuinely had no idea you made effective. I have been using it for years and watching your videos for months and it somehow never clicked. One of the coolest Vanilla+ mods I have seen in a long time
As a caver (both in real life and in minecraft) i can confirm that rock+water+basically any temperature above 0°c=mist, to the point where your glasses fog up underground, even in winter, and you can't see more than 50ft in front of you, because your torch isn't strong enough, even on the highest setting, and it so means that within
The colored mist reminds me of the smoke bombs we use at my grandparents’ on the Fourth of July. It’s always fun just shoving a colored little smoke bomb into the sand and watching the color flow out. We can’t go this year, but MAN that brought back memories
my first exposure to your work was illuminations (big ambience fan) and man it is CRAZY how much more magic youve brought to casual gameplay here. so awesom ^_^
The attention to detail and interact-ability with the environment really brings the game alive. I’m so excited to see future updates to this and I’d love to see some more player/entity to environment interaction effects that make the world feel more tangible.
I am genuinely considering adding this mod to my vanilla hardcore world, purely for future building projects that would look amazing with these different ambient effects. Also, I'm just a sucker for waterfall particles and mist, as well as the general vibe proper ambience can bring to builds. You can really bring life into the world more than before. You've done a great job here.
Maybe, a way to improve the mist clipping is to have it always show on the first layer above blocks and entities, but then have the opacity controlled by how far an actual surface like a block or entity is from the camera/view. And if a position is truly above a surface, always make that part 100% opacity.
Quick suggestion: could you add falling leaf particles that also work on modded leaves? I know other mods that do this exist, however I doubt they also make the leaves land on the water surface like you did with the chorus flower particle effect. All in all, I love your mods and this one is definitely one of my favourites.
The soul sand under the submerged chests as a solution for the fact that you wouldnt be able to appreciate the bubbles while stuck in the chest ui is brilliant
could be cool butterfly particles in floral biomes that start in flowers and speead out when you walk troug them, also flys and mosquitos in rivers and pitched flowers, who make frogs trigger it eating animation
Amazing work Rat! Keep improving effective and I am excited for what mods you create next! Also: I think you should do modding tutorials. I feel like it would be a good series for your channel
There is no such thing as too many ambient effects! Add even more! This is one of my must have mods on any playthrough. I love the new effects, especially the petals on water and Skulk effects. Do the Cherry Blossom trees do the same?
The eyes in the dark should just be part of the default game, honestly ! I don’t dislike the idea of the improved glowing stuff and fireballs, but it just looks out of place with how much less pixelated it is compared to everything else.
Dude, seeing this update is so lovely. I was nervous with my illuminations mod Ive used forever to be merging... but these updates and QOL effects make me so excited! I'm already on 1.20 quilt... but if you ever get the time to update, just know I will be right here supporting you and your work! The ripple effects may make me have more than a healthy amount of cherry blossom trees...
The fire balls remind me of the Minecraft music video “Take Back the Night” by Captainsparkles because in the video there are fire balls with the same trail like effect (not exact but you get the idea).
So excited to play with this mod when it’s ready for 1.20 it’s the whole reason I made the switch to Quilt. Great work can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
its a shame you dont maintain the Fabric version anymore, Effective 1.0 was the reason I switched over to Fabric modding I thought the splashes were a really cool addition.
A suggestion for the mist would be to make it a stationary cross shape, like mushrooms and flowers, and then making it not turn, just locked in one position.
Why is nobody talking about the dragon roar + screen shake, that made me realize just how kuch the dragon fight is missing. Hearing it the first sent shivers down my spine.
This is amazing, now all that's needed is to merge Illuminations with Effective and it'll be almost perfect.. Edit: Also when will 1.20 support be out for Effective?
I love this stuff so much, it’s sick! On the improved particles, which do look good, it would be cool if they were voxelized or, made to fit the MC art style slightly more so they didn’t look out of place.
The texture for each of their parts are very pixelized, the thing that gives off this feel is that I rotate them. I tried a few different things but this is as good as I could get it to look without it looking clumsy or worse. I've tried not rotating it but honestly, it just looked worse.
Please make the chorus petal effect happen with all trees. Maybe not always but make a random “windy day” happen every now and then. Atleast for the new cherry blossoms
Effective is probably one of my favorite mods EVER! I really like your other mods as well though, and the ones on your Ko-Fi are awesome! (Don’t worry, I paid for them on your page)
@@CrystalClear51 i know that, but i'd have to change the server i play on to quilt in order for me to load onto it with a quilt profile, and i don't think everyone else on that server is willing to go through that effort just to let me use one cool mod
sadly, minecraft devs do not understand how to make their game better. they are trying to hype with huge updates with hype things, but what you have done combined with "ambient mod" for sounds, makes the game 100x better
Things such as there being bird calls wile in a forest or hearing the waves by sea or even the soft flow of a river that can get more intense with more corners/ rocks will give so much life to the dead silence of this game.
these look great!!! i remember seeing ur original video about the splashes!! i love how u made everything toggleable!! i dont play on desktop often but im definitely gonna download this for when i do!! excellent job ^_^
For the people wondering "WHY IS IT ON QUILT I WANT IT ON FORGE/FABRIC!!1111!!!" Also they said they won't allow unofficial fabric/forge ports for the mod so the only way you're going to get it is with Quilt, and Quilt allows 99% of all fabric mods btw.

This is soooo good !! I’d just say that sometimes the water effects are a bit ridiculous and oversized and would just need a bit of tweaking
its a shame you dont maintain the Fabric version anymore, Effective 1.0 was the reason I switched over to Fabric modding I thought the splashes were a really cool addition.
its also on forge as well... however whether it will receive the 2.1 update remains to be seen
A suggestion for the mist would be to make it a stationary cross shape, like mushrooms and flowers, and then making it not turn, just locked in one position.
thank you SO MUCH for putting the parry effect for hitting ghast fireballs
The waterfall visuals are WAY too aggressive in this mod. Need to be shrunk tons.
I love the ultrakill reference lmao.
If you make big, kinda see trough particles I think that would make it look a bit better
This one of the most impressive ambient mods I have seen, keep up the great work!
Such animations are really needed in vanilla Minecraft.
Im so happy to see this mod grow! I loved it since it came out! Incredible modding skills.
i understand why, but i'm still sad this version of effective is quilt exclusive since the main server i play on is fabric only
quilt can load fabric mods too...
@@CrystalClear51 i know that, but i'd have to change the server i play on to quilt in order for me to load onto it with a quilt profile, and i don't think everyone else on that server is willing to go through that effort just to let me use one cool mod
@@pup1030 pretty sure you dont, just add quilted fabric api to your modpack then add effective and you´re good to go.
make it 1.20 pls
Thank you for your hard work! The night bioluminescence for warm oceans is such a nice touch.
Ok, the wool being useable to remove sound and customize the fog effect is great. Makes it feel very vanilla. :D
port on 1.20.1
sadly, minecraft devs do not understand how to make their game better. they are trying to hype with huge updates with hype things, but what you have done combined with "ambient mod" for sounds, makes the game 100x better
For the people wondering "WHY IS IT ON QUILT I WANT IT ON FORGE/FABRIC!!1111!!!" They said on the mod page they won't port to fabric or forge because of transphobia, racism, and they feel quilt is much better. Also they said they won't allow unofficial fabric/forge ports for the mod so the only way you're going to get it is with Quilt, and Quilt allows 99% of all fabric mods btw.
can we get a source on the transphobia and racism? in no way am I trying to sound rude or in support of forge, this is just news to me and would like to follow up with a source.
how is a mod loader racist
yeah me too I've never heard of the racism and transphobia wtf
Can we port it ourselves
@@joshuaskinner4419 the creator doesn't want it ported
Imagine only using 1.19.2 quilt
And not allow ports of your mods
(Common L)
1.18 as well,
Also how is this common? And its zheir mod, they can do whatever
This man does more work in a month than the Mojang team does in a year
This looks like such a wonderfully brautiful additon to the game! Definitely going to ve adding this to any packs I play in the future!
the real question is why the mod is not in 1.20.1 I am having a hard time without splashes :(
I think ur making minecraft too realistic
Don’t read my name
More like making the visuals minecraft deserves
GRAAAH this is so cute!!!!! amazing work i love these
Honestlyl, ambiet mods like this are some of my favorite additions to minecraft. Please keep doing what you're doing!
Love the mod, absolutely hate that you refuse to let others port the mod just because you got annoyed at people, and your attitude of dismissiveness is the worst.
if i wasn't used to an 82 mod mod pack id switch to quilt just for this (currently on forge)
these are seriously amazing dude and the fact you do this as a hobby?? you spoil thos with quilt. seriously amazing work, keep it up!
Such small additions that have such a humongous effect and make the game feel so much more polished and complete. Great work
Finally! Glow squids have the Subnautica Mesmer effect!
Edit: Loved the ULTRAKILL reference
that ultrakill reference came outta nowhere, great job on one of my fav mods!
