- Steven and Zach revisit the original version of one of their favorite games of all time, Netrunner. The CCG released in the '90s, was designed by card game legend Richard Garfield, and published by Wizards of the Coast.

I hope you guys dip back into this. This is my preferred version of Netrunner because the art and Cyberpunk universe are so iconic.

Still have this game one of the games my 11 year old son and I used to play. Richard Garfield always said it was better than MTG. I agree but my son still went on to be a big MTG player with a massive collection. We both bought FFG version always puzzled why this game didn't register with gamers 2000-2012

I still have sealed and booster boxes of the original Netrunner. Loved both the old and new.
This game looks so fun. And the ccg version is such a good looking game on the board too. And can i just say that "installing a piece of ice" is the coolest sounding terminology ive ever heard in a game.
The 2 players starter was the best for this game. Very playable right out of the box. I remember picking it up. Cause I was playing alot of cyberpunk 2020 rpg back then and netrunner was set in that universe.

I must say that I prefer this serious 80's art to the LCG one. It's true the new one has some very good art, but some other is too colorful and childish :( It's like: "do you want to be a hacker?" oriented to teenagers. And I bought and played a lot of the LCG Netrunner...
I guess it's FFG trying to get to a very wide public vs companies like Awaken Realms with much more serious art and perspectives. Hollywood family action films vs serious art pieces. Blizzard vs CD Projekt Red.

I heard about this game right before FFG lost the license and regret that I couldn't get into it. I'm glad you explained the history so well.
Not too late to still get into it, Stuart! NISEI, the community Zach and Steve mentioned, are doing an excellent job keeping the game alive. They have a new kit specifically designed to introduce Netrunner to new players called "Gateway" coming out in December.
For anyone wondering, that gateway set is releasing March 28, and it looks amazing!

CD Projekt RED implementing Netrunner in the Cyberpunk game along the lines of Gwent in Witcher - now there's an idea.
I would love a Gwent tabletop ccg.
They will not buy the license. They were developing cyberpunk afterlife ccg lead by Lang to be released along side (most probably collectors ed.) I have a lot of scepticism about its purpose & quality tho.
At 39:46, Zach tries to remember the name of the guy who won the HAC tournament: "...he had a beard." Bwahahaha!! That literally describes 97.8% of all gamers!! Oh, Lordy....that made me laugh!! Thank you!! :D
I reckon it was Ahmed. He was from my meta and won or made the cut in nearly all the events he played in.

I get the impression that you guys were going to promote the Nisei group with some games at some point, but then maybe the pandemic happened or as you said earlier in the vid maybe their were some legal issues.
I don't know what the production costs are, but it would be AMAZING if you could play some of the classic Fantasy Flight Netrunner in line with you guys playing all the other old TCGs.
You could get somebody to build really cool and balanced decks that really showed off the flavour of each runner and corp.
It would be so good!
Even if you can't do the full production, just some videos like these but with FF Netrunner would be cool.

I play with a friend on Table Top Simulator and in the Super Complete Netrunner mod there are several decks fro. Team covenant doing exactly that! Presumably also available on netrunnerdb

have you guys heard about the new digimon TCG? It's coming out in english soon. it's a very fun game, a bit of a mix of many different games but it feels authentic when you play it. also the starter decks are very well built, so I'd love to see you guys plating a match with them 😄
We have! Doesn't really appeal to us - looks pretty similar to Pokemon and honestly, very loud/busy. It'll probably do well though! Still have fond Digimon memories.
@@teamcovenant I see! particularly I think its mechanics are much more fluid than pokemon's, but I totally get the comparison. Yeah, I hope it does well! here in Japan it's a much cheaper game than others, I hope it stays like that

Zach (ours, not you) is the one who gets hosed by it! Haha. Always complaining about how he goes to buy some cards after we fall in love with a game on stream and finds them super expensive.
@@teamcovenant I have so much respect for TC that I once heard Steven mention during a video that he had recently been playing a lot of Quantum. He called it "the best game with a map and D6s". I immediately went on eBay and bought the game. And I love it!!!!!
Urban Renewal is fun. Zach could have also trashed Chiba after the tag and made Steven reap what he had sown. 😆
back in '96/'97 a friend and I bought into this game. 2 Starter decks (each with one Runner deck and one Corp deck). We never actually played it, but first split it up, so I got the 4 Runner starter decks and he got Corp. I don't know what he ever did with the cards, but I still have these 4 starters of unplayed Runner cards in near pristine condition...if only we hadn't split them up, I'd have a playable set of cards...
I much prefer the route that FFG took with the rerelease, but it's very cool to see the original game.

Always been a fan of the old art and hope to see you guys play original again.
Android version was a phenomenal reboot - kept the great things about the original, updated the mechanics with reverence, and applied a very appropriate theme.

I definitely prefer the LCG, mainly cuz of the identities, but the CCG is just fun. they play identical. such a great game!!

whos to say Wizards ain't secretly workin on making Netrunner CCG as big as mtg with all the money money money incentives they have plenty of? I personally hope they don't as I much prefer a non collectible booster buyin cash sink, such as the lcg models of Android Netrunner. Was brilliant. Question about NISEI cards? How good are the card stocks and prrinting qualities comparatively to the ones from FFG core etc?

We don't. We didn't keep them, just played for fun and then let it be.
