The 80s were a treat for horror fans, and popular horror icons such as Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers flourished during this time. This also meant that it was not easy to compete with these classics, and this is precisely where Clive Barker deserves all the credit for the way he handled Hellraiser. This movie adaptation of his horror novel The Hellbound Heart changed the way people perceived horror movies, and more importantly, it brought to life the ruthless horror villain Pinhead, who would go down in history as one of the greatest. The magical combination of a shocking, grim, and engaging script with a skillful actor like Doug Bradley produced some amazing end results, and it went on to establish a successful Hellraiser franchise spanning multiple movies.
We have provided you with a healthy dose of Hellraiser content because we are hopeless fans, but today’s video is more about the lesser-known aspect of this dark and haunting, sadomasochistic world of Hellraiser. Stay tuned to learn some of the most shocking details that will blow your mind, and give you a whole new perspective on Pinhead and the overall Hellraiser universe! - Розваги
I stood on a piece of Lego barefoot once so I think I have a pretty good grasp of the cenobite lifestyle
Lego is child's play. Try stepping on a UK plug.
😂😂😂
@@IAmPez there speaks the voice of bitter experience 🤣🤣🤣👍
You’ve know such pleasures
-Pinhead
The concept of a lego cennobite should be a thing, im manifesting it out into the ether..
I loved the concept of the cenobites. I was very disappointed when later Hellraiser movies just made them boring "demons". The idea that they were humans who explored the extreme reaches of pleasure and pain who eventually found their way to a place of transcendence was radically more interesting.
i would actually argue the opposite. in the original film, the little we know about the cenobites serves to supplement their mystery and ambiguity. the human-after-all reveal in hellbound fell completely flat for me
💯 agreed.
Agreed. Although I do like the mystery behind them in the original in the second one although we get a cool explanation it's less scary afterwards.
Hellllllllll yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
I like the first 2 movies the most because there was a story
The thing I love most about pinhead is the way he spoke!
A sadistic poetry!!!
Ikr it just aint a movie to me without him sumwhere popping out lol hope he in the new movie
Doug Bradley is recognized, locally he lives here in Pittsburgh, Pa. For privacy, I will not divulge exactly where. But most people can find him. He walks his German Shepard every day and reads old stories on youtube, usually in his reading corner or on his rear balcony. He is in our community here. Well cherished. Thanks Doug for the great and evil Pinhead.
That's cool I had no idea he was in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh was a great City for horror and heavy metal, I had the most fun watching movies and seeing shows in that town.
What is the UA-cam channel?
Is he/she a democrat or republican today ?
So you say that you wont divulge exactly where Doug Bradley lives, but you narrow it down massively. I don't think it's your place to be saying anything at all about his private life.
I’ve lived in Pittsburgh for 37 years and didn’t know that lol 😂
“No tears, please. It’s a waste of good suffering!”
Hellraiser freaked me out as a kid. I found the dark gothic depiction of Hell far more terrifying than the fiery Hell of Dante that is most common
Same it scared the hell out of my brother and I to the point of him having nightmares
I always envisioned Hell as ice cold, sterile and monochrome. Where boredom and drudgery is king.
Idk why but hellraiser has always had a sort of Tim Burton feel to it for me. Perhaps for that exact reason.
You lol ikr when i first watch this i for sure saw it was pleasure and pain I was like if that is what hell look like count me out then i saw the cenobie and yelled wtf as the dude came out with them teeth man n then the girl i was outta there lol scared me straight im not scared no more but the original is classic
The real Hell is much much worse. The people in Hell are there because they belong there. The cenobites do a good work dealing out justice. We are forever and the cenobites are my special ones. I love them and they love me as their Lord and Master. Justice is coming and there will be 70 hours of total uninterrupted darkness as the Sun nor stars shall give the earth any light. During that time justice will be served.
Poor Doug Bradley - The true face of the Hellraiser franchise and hardly anyone recognised him at the post production party. I was fortunate enough to meet him at a launching of his book "Behind the mask of the Horror Actor" (A history of movie makeup through the ages) and when someone asked if he had difficulty in being recognised, he simply answered in his Pinhead voice! He's actually a very nice guy in real life.
was he suppose to actually be pinhead mean lol
@@killsoso9099 I was literally trying not to say that.
I told him I grew up on his movies. His response was "Sorry to hear that".. I was shocked but makes sense lol
Obscurity isn't necessarily a curse...
Doug is an awesome guy
I feel like Doug Bradley not being recognized is a bit of a tragedy. Dude was brilliant.
I totally agree. Doug was fantastic as Pinhead. Though I do think Hell Priest sounds better.
He's recognized believe that
As a actor,I only care about if the fans knew me.i would prefer to live a normal life besides that
He is forever.
The hair may throw one off but “heavy makeup”, I found it easy to recognize him.. the dude is respected and rightfully so. I waited in line for his autograph
Doug Bradley, Robert Englund and Tobin Bell are the most perfectly cast actors in horror history.

Bruce Campbell.
Also Tim Curry. And the voice of CHUCKY.
Sid Haig
@@funkworthrollin4959 Brad Dourif. He needs respect.
Hellraiser is why I became a SFX and prosthetics makeup artist
Were you self-taught?
As a huge fan of gore its a career choice I've considered but I wouldn't know how to get into it.
I’m so happy that Pinhead didn’t get the go ahead to star in a film with Freddy and Michael, it’s just too silly for words!
Pinhead was far above those two idiots. I think it would have ruined his persona.
I think a lot of people would be shocked at just how short Pinhead's screen time was in the first one. If you saw any of the sequels before the original, you'd wonder if you were even watching the right movie if you were watching the first one.
Yeah, funny how he was the big star and face of the flick even with that little time.
The most shocking thing is even though his screen time was so short in the first one his still managed to make a huge impact.
Still kicks Ass. Had a blast years ago doing Pin-Head for Halloween. My ex and I even got to dress up in our original costumes for the premiere of Hell Raiser IIII which prompted me to immediately begin changing my mask and Betty's costume from the original female to Angelique. 5 years covering parades and contests we won a lot and had a blast. Most disturbing was the number of men and women that hit on us both but especially Pinhead
The Hellraiser parallel dimension is most likely where the Event Horizon and her crew went when they gone missing!
The only times I've ever truly been scared by a film happened to be stories written by Barker: Candyman and Hellraiser.
I remember watching Candyman as a child and falling in love with horror movies in that moment. Hellraiser and Candyman were definitely my introduction to true horror as a kid and since then I’ve been obsessed lol
Candyman ruined me for a few yrs. Ended with my dad locking me in the bathroom and making me say his name 5 times until nothing happened....... worked i guess, but at the time i tripped tf out
His books and short stories are beyond! By far my favorite author!!
Agree! The original Candyman had a sick soundtrack, that piano theme song still haunts me. Hellraiser gave me nightmare for weeks.
I've never really viewed Pinhead as a villain, he was just a dude doing his job right
💯🖤
That makes no sense. He is literally the embodiment of evil.
@@Tomy_Yon The whole premise of first two movies is that Pinhead was avoiding to take Christie unless he had to (he has to take someone) hence none of the cenobites hurt her in any way more than emotional and psychological and even then it was to motivate her to give out the actual culprits. Also Hell itself is a prison for the evil doers not the source of evil.
@@piotrkowalski3869 still doesn't make him less evil. He likes Kirsty, he's not that easy on the culprits, right? Hell is a prison, sure for the wicked.
@@Tomy_Yon She sloved the puzzle she should have been taken. Whoever solves the puzzle is doomed for hell. It is specifically mentioned that only those who want to taste the ultimate pleasure of flesh should solve the puzzle. Kisty solved it unknowing of what it brings. Pinhead wanted to take her at first, but she proposed a different sacrifice, someone who escaped the Hell Priests grasp. The fact Pinhead considered and agreed to Kristy's proposition was a result of him of not being interested in hurting someone who solved the puzzle by chance and there was a bigger game for him to take back.
To think Doug wanted to be the “man moving furniture” in the first hellraiser film
This film was a revolution in horror flicks and turned the genre on its ear, so original and well thought out
How I will never know. It's a terrible movie. Dumb villain.
watching after seeing the awesome remake. i really enjoyed it. the Cenobites designs are freakin amazing!!
Hellbound is my favorite horror film, i wish the sequels delved deeper into Leviathan/ The Labyrinth.
It was by far the most interesting concept in any horror movie, and the visuals spoke volumes.
Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth is mine because we get to see an unhinged Doug Bradley which is amazing
@@thehellcatsreview-horrorre6516 Yeah you could tell he was having a blast.
Ikr
Completely agree!!! The first 2 are considered the best. The 3rd was okay but just not a classic. The 2nd one should have gone deeper in the leviathan.
“We have such sights to show you!”
I was a teen when it first came out and I could finally rent movies. It scared the hell out of me!
I personally prefer Pinhead to not be an outright villain or killer.
I love the idea of him and the others just wanting to show humans the wonder of human senses.
Doug Bradley was amazing and gave some humanity to the character of Pinhead; I hope the reboot does not erase this memory.
The reboot is going to win the award for worst 11th movie it's gonna be pure agony they have such sites to bore us with
it would be wrong to copy him however, he was too good and the sequals suffered because of it. The edning of 2 made his reapearance in 3 seem strange to me and the explanation in movie insufficient.
@@Kevin-id5hx wrong lol. Movie was great and thankfully the critics agree.
@@Kevin-id5hx It wasn't as good as the original but I still enjoyed it and everyone I know who has seen it enjoyed it also
@@TwoLiterSoda wrong was around 9th out of the 12
Hellraiser 2 is actually my “lullaby” movie. I dunno why…but I love falling asleep to that movie!
Looking forward to The Hellbound Heart. Been waiting for this movie far too long.
If I remember correctly, in the original Graphic Novels, there was a crossover with Nightbreed where Pinhead was actually called Xipe Totec, an Aztec god of Life, Death, and Rebirth. The Aztec god was portrayed as self flagellated. Even though teh character may be evil, in DND terms he was lawful evil.
5:40 I've always thought of The Hell Priest as being Amoral, and only loyal to what it knows and what it does. It does horrible things because it only knows how to do horrible things
This is one of the best horror movies ever made I can watch it over and over again and never get bored of watching it. 😬👍
One of the scariest villains, both in looks & the voice.
Yeah Pinhead would not work as a witty one-liner.
Freddy is the witty one.
Pinhead is the serious one.
Jason is the silent one.
Chucky is the goofy one.
Michael is the calculating one.
I hope they don’t do a crossover, it sounds good on paper but as we saw with alien vs predator it doesn’t work.🤷🏾♂️
@@dimwitsixtytwelve I loved AVP....even Ridley Scott enjoyed it.
@@christopherdunn4066 That's cool man! I personally didn't think it worked myself. a lot of the mystique was taken away in favor of action.
In my opinion Hellraiser 1 and 2 stand apart from all other horror movies for breaking new ground in the genre. I can remember watching Hellraiser as a kid like 14 when my parents were out late. My sister was a fan of Clive Barkers novels and told me it would be on HBO really late and I should stay up and watch it. I was scared alright and thought the Cenobites would come for me for sure! I’m hoping that the reboot does justice to those characters properly and the source material. Clive Barker originally intended for Pinhead to be female, and so many reboot movies cast female actors as the new leads to give us a twist. There have been some great female horror movie leads so I’m looking forward one in Pinheads role! So many pleasures!
four months late to this comment but the reboot is out now. have you seen it yet, and did you enjoy it if so?
the new one falls closer in line with the first two...
Can you please point me in the direction where Clive Barker said this? "Clive Barker originally intended for Pinhead to be female"? Other than this nonsense, I agree with the rest you stated.
@@CohnmanTheBudbarian have you read the novel lol? pinhead is described as having the voice of an excited girl. doesn’t sound like a man to me.
@@CohnmanTheBudbarian jesus. so that’s why so many of you are single. your personalities are trash.
Doug Bradley is the freaking man! PinHead is the best horror icon ever
I’m a pin head 😬
I can't help but picture the female cenobite chucking fridge magnets at his head while Chatterer and Butterball laugh their arses off.
There is not a single fan of Hellraiser that wanted to see Pinhead vs Freddy vs Jason.
Weaveworld was my favourite book of Barker's. Shame they never made it into a film, but I'd imagine the effects of unravelling a world weaved in a carpet would have been the major challenge back in the 90's. That said, with today's CGI it could easily be made.
This was so informative and interesting. Thanks Iove horror. Hellraiser has always been a classic for me
Loved Pinhead and was frighten till I was 12 years old. Freddy, Jason, Mike and Leprechaun weren't more frightening than Pinhead.
Chatterer was the one that freaked me out as a kid🤣
my favourite movie. Bradly voice is chilling. i also like "Singing in the Rain". go figure. read the "Hellbound Heart". it's worth the read.
I was obsessed with the dark horse comic books by clive barker and the movies when I was a kid and teenager.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Pinhead & the original cenobites, is the only horror characters that I didn't think were a joke. They were hell incarnate, if there was a hell they came from it.
Adding Hellraiser to the Freddie v. Jason universe would have been an interesting one. Freddie and Jason play against each other as incarnations of each other's fears; death by fire and death by drowning. Hellraiser would add the deviance element. Jason, having drown because the camp counselors were banging instead of watching the kids and holding a subsequent grudge against sexuality; Freddie, dying over his abuse of children, holding a subsequent grudge against decency.
I think the challenge would be that neither Freddie nor Jason represent an existential threat to Hellraiser, but that could be mitigated by having Hellraiser play an instigator's role.
Hellraiser scared me as a kid, but I appreciate it more as an adult with the FX of the time.
This dude actually gave the reading life, and was fun to listen to. 5/5 would listen again.
One movie that would benefit from CG technology currently used.
Awesome video, so much cool information.
Never saw hellpriest/pinhead as a villain, the lines they have makes that really obvious to me. Terrifying, absolutely, but I didn't think anything was malicious. I always thought Frank was the villain and Julia a more grey, sympathetic villain. The coenobites I felt were carrying out their purpose as some type of judgement/punishment.
Clive Barker and Doug Bradley were roommates in college. In the book pinhead appears as a female sitting on a throne of tounges and the pins had jewels on the ends. Fun part a Cenobite is a person that follows a religion look it up it is in the dictionary. I would like to see Cold Heart Canyon as a movie, but it would truly have to be an X rated movie.
Cold Heart Canyon was brilliant. I think Frank Muller did an epic job narrating. If it never becomes a movie or series, there's still Frank Muller's reading.
Enjoyed the video :)
I'm glad that Clive Barker doubled down on what he wanted for his movie.
Doug Bradley is also friends with Dani Filth, as he appeared on several Cradle of Filth albums as a narrator
Hellraiser, well most of them, are really a great watch for damn sure
Even the bad ones are.....curious.
I really didn't like how comical they made Pinhead as a character in the sequels to Hellraiser. Like you said, he's not a villain, and he's not strictly evil. He's just doing his job, and happens to be from a plane of existence where fucking someone in half with a saw won't kill them. I hope the reboot TV series does the character justice.
Also, the name "Pinhead" is horrifically stupid, and I wish it'd never been attached to the character
Man seeing the Hell Priestess on the screen will be interesting. I can't wait for it. The Hellbound Heart is pretty explicit, I wonder how they'll try to stick closer to it without getting an X rating again like the first Hellraiser originally did.
she needs grey skin and tongues on her thighs.
Hopefully they'll release an unrated edition
Honestly with how sensibilities have changed? They can get away with a lot more under an R rating.
If pervo wood Make it into perv sex movie they will ruin it cb always had a perv side to him yet less was best proved
5 months later and we now know the answer: the new Hellraiser pays lip service to the Hellbound Heart and thats it lol
Dude I'm so stupid I've watched the Hellraiser films since I was 10 years old, and never realized the symbolism of pins being in the Lead Cenobite's face, meaning the more he gets close to another human being in intimacy, the more it hurts them.
Even in The Hellbound Heart the main cenobite was The Engineer. There was supposed to be an updated version of the original but I guess Clive decided against it. I actually found a novella where Sherlock Holmes faces off with the Cenobites. It’s really a great story.
What like fan fiction or a published release. Can it be googled?
@@h2eh1s- I got it on my Nook through the Barnes and noble store so I’m sure you could find it anywhere that does digital downloads. It’s badass. Hello there. As a fan of the franchise, I thank you for those information. I salute you o7
I absolutely love the first two films. Everything after those was just cash grab fluff. I wish he would have just done new films instead of putting so much time and energy into the “Hellraiser franchise”.
I disagree. I loved Inferno and Bloodlines really dug into the lure of the box. Hell on Earth and Hell Seeker also had their moments.
Yeah. I want my time back for every movie in the series after Hellraiser 2.
" take it. It's yours. It always was."
Just read the book and listened to the audio book which is free on UA-cam narrated by Clive barker himself
So good only short but really worth it
Love the info and makes me happy to have a piece of special memorabilia unopened cenobites lair / chamber with all figures along with the limited edition art work. This was sold in Spencer's around the world in limited numbers. I understand them to be worth a bit of cash if you are able to find one. They were made sometime in the 90's I believe. Definitely one of the best pieces I own and cherish what a conversation piece it is.
Wonder if the uncut version is out there anywhere
pinhead excellent, thank you, like to see uncut version
I love Jamie Clayton as an actress but doesn't hold a candle to Doug Bradley as Pinhead! His voice and mannerisms are iconic and will go down in horror history.
I worked at a burn unit for 28 years scrubbing burn victims for some reason this movie Hellraiser reminds me of my old job I got your torture people all day long everyday this movie brings back memories and sort of away
"Burn?? such a limited imagination" 😂😂😂 the way Pin Head mocked the priest...classic!
Freddy vs The Hellpriest would have been a really cool concept.
my top 3 horror villains...
1.Freddy
2.Pinhead
3.Wishmaster.....(i like a villain that kills for a purpose ...ALL 3 OF THEM TAKE SOULS!)
There was some serious consideration of a Michael Myers and Pinhead crossover in the mid 90s when Miramax bought the rights to the Halloween franchise.
In the first 2 movies and kinda in the 3,4 I love that they aren't traditional villains they don't judge or have an agenda. They follow a certain set of rules and if you start the process you have to follow the rules you can make a deal but if you don't follow through they will end you. Beautifully done
The patern on the preist head are acupuncture points
This is the most pleasing narrating voice I have ever heard. I'm ready for Jurassic Park.
This has inspired me to read the book!!
I'm going to have to check out that "The Hellbound Heart"
I love the four first movies, but that's all. Pinhead is a legend, thx mr Barker
That the other Cenobites don't speak actually adds to their characters, giving them that mystique. Like the other bounty hunters in the Empire Strikes Back.
When I first watched hellraiser, I was VERY confused because of the love story. I wasn't sure how it was going to be a horror movie but boy, was I surprised
😅
Saw the trailer for the upcoming series that comes out Oct, really excited for it. I love the realm of Leviathan and would really kill to see more of it. The cenobites should be terrifying in my mind. I found the third movie one night and got immediately intrigued about the series. I never went further than part 4 though, the space thing was a lil campy. The second one is my absolute favorite and I really loved the actors in those first two movies who did an incredible job.
The trailer you saw was for the new movie coming out tomorrow. I don’t believe they’ve started making the series yet.

In the movie the Chatterer does speak one word. He says "impossible" while holding Kirsty after she explains that Frank escaped them.
That's OBVIOUSLY the female Cenobite.
Chatterer CAN'T speak, which is also very obvious.
@@sidnew2739 the Chatterer does and can speak if you knew your cebobite history. In the movie he speaks the one word and it is not Deep Throat. Different voice and many sites have explained this. The only Cenobite to not speak in the movie, but could in the comics and the book was Butterball only because the costume was too bulky to make the mouth move.

@@joshhill4896 Try saying "Impossible" without lips.
I always wanted to see a story where Barker’s Cenobites and Nunciates crossed paths. I’d love to see how Pinhead and The Jaffe would interact
Hellraiser Judgement was decent. I liked the concept of sin ordained by Heaven. Also, Hellraiser & Josephine the Angels banter back & forth. Def the best since the first 2 imo especially for its budget. The follow up had The Auditor leaving bread crumbs for Pinhead to get back to hell because the didn't like the new Hell Priest, so Pinhead vs a new Hellpriest for the throne. Similar to the Hellraiser 2 fight scene but better. We def need to see the Hell Priestess on screen with Pinhead, both competing for Leviathans throne & blessing to torture & bring souls
That should have been made back in the 80's with the female pinhead. Some classics should be left alone. Most remakes completely fail. Doug Bradley set the bar too high. Hellraiser judgment was good but not a classic like the first 2 films everything afterwards was trash and most Clive didn't direct. I mean the new actor in judgment actually did an outstanding job for pinhead.
Clive Barker is one of my favorite authors read the scarlet gospels awhile ago
I can talk about hellraiser like no other and know it all hit me up. :)
I'd literally PAY someone to talk about hellraiser. movies. shorts. novels. novellas. graphic novels
I have been known to base my opinion of every booger in a movie against my love of Pinhead and the gang!! He is most amazing !

I remember seeing the VHS boxes on the rental store shelves as a kid and I was like NOPE. Creepy pinhead on the front 💀💀💀
I never regarded the hell priest as the villain. He was in charge of punishing depraved sinners, like Frank Cotton and Julia. In the scene with Tiffany in Hellbound that's quite noticeable. "Wait! No! It is not hands that called us. It is desire!"
