Your hatred for LJN is not well-founded, considering that they never developed a single game. They were only a publisher. Not to mention, by the time they were releasing Spider-Man game, they had become a subsidiary of Acclaim.
Is there any history behind this not getting a U.S. release? The game was already finished and in the 1990s any Spider-Man game printed money regardless of quality.
Few Japanese games were picked up for distribution in 1995, the SNES was waning, and Epoch did not have foreign distributors as far as I know. At least not on a regular basis.
Was this played on an original Super Famicom cart? If so, can you upload a picture of the cart for verification? There doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation of what this game looks like. Thanks!
@@francessonder I've heard Japanese accents before, and that ain't it, chief. If it were said with a Japanese accent, it would sound like, "Supaidaaman!" It most likely sounds like that due to the voiceover being muffled.
@@Breadloaf-kr4gi wow I don't even remember watching this, but I appreciate the memory jog since I don't want to play any of the games I got right now, so this will pretty fun for tonight. Thanks dude.
Well hate to break it to you, Epoch never did a game for the Genesis, and no guarantee it would be any better musically. It all depends on the developer and what sound set they use for the Genesis. If they use the GEMS set, trust me, it would be ear rapege. Maybe if Hitoshi Sakimoto and his sound set is used, or the other sound set Japanese developers used (maybe VGZ or something, I forget the name), ythen yeah it would fare better. As it stands, this is the best Spiderman game from the 8 and 16 bit era, Sega did an OK arcade Spiderman game, but the one on Genesis really was nothing special, as Sega themselves didn't do the game.
Sega just had better music. I dont really care about all the nerd techs. Look at SOR compared to FF. SNES never had any good music for their games. Well rarely.
It's pretty much the best Spiderman game of that generation, at least it plays well, and the devs behind it were far more competent than what Acclaim licensed any Spiderman game from before.
the music sounds too japanese it makes me thinks in that cheesy Spider-Man Japanese live-action show. oh well, at least this game it's better than the one which is based on The Animated Series, that just sucks
As if sounding "too Japanese" were in any way an imperfection, not that there's such a thing as "too Japanese." Besides, it may sound Japanese to an extent, but certainly not to the point of being out of place in an American setting. And if you're calling the Japanese Spider-Man show "cheesy," then I'll have you know it's not any moreso than other tokusatsu series of the time. For some people, the so-called "cheesiness" is what makes shows like that so entertaining to watch. And whatever "cheesiness" is present in the show is purely superficial. Like its peers of the time, it can be completely ridiculous without being self-aware and delivers trippy spectacles, thrilling stories, exciting action scenes, and a strong sense of justice worthy of old Spidey. This game's music doesn't even sound like Chumei Watanabe's score from the show.
That sound on Epoch logo screen is what you hear while you're trying to call into Hell.
I think they actually took it from the NES version of Donkey Kong jr. Lol
Definitely one of those games where the time limit would have killed me more than anything else.
Huge NONO for me as a kid - freaking time limits 😭
Did you know there was an Fan Translation of this game already available?
The controls and pixel art looks pretty good for the time.

First the EPOCH intro music was enough. Then the level music jazzed me out! My mind can't handle this kinda funk
@17:35 does Spiderman really walk over and teabag Mysterio after he defeats him? Man, that predates Halo and COD by at least a decade.
I love this game i played and clear one and other time when i was 14 years old ❤️

This channel 99.9% of the time uses emulators, so that would be a no.
Only for Snes9x
Why would they have a spiderman game come out only in Japan?
Because it relies on the Barcode Battler, a toy that was only successful in Japan
Venom and carnage team up
Esse jogo foi da minha infância!
Como assim vc e eu do passado?
I laughed at the Daily Bugle headline "Spider-Man Wins!". True Believers will get the joke.
A missed opportunity to have a Japan only spiderman game and not have it feature his spider car and his giant mecha to fight alien monsters
Not every piece of Spider-Man media exclusive to Japan is related to the 1978 Toei tokusatsu show. This one is based on the original comics.
Who's this 'Biter-Man' we hear of right at the beginning?
I hear "Cider-man!"
I guess it's just a Japanese accent?
