BC has a limited 3 year pilot project on escooters - both rentals and privately owned. My community is not involved in the pilot 2 years in , but I'm not waiting. I'm going to use my scooter on the roads and bilke lanes built with my tax dollars.
People who own their own Escooters are way more responsible and operate them a lot safer then those renting. I was stopped by the cops while riding mine and was given a $324 ticket and a warning so now I have a court date to fight it on Feb 24. It would be a good opportunity for ppl to show up in support and maybe we can force a much needed change to the BS laws. It's also a provincial law so I was told the city cant change it themselves when I requested a meeting with the mayor.
Just got my $324 ticket today, I had no idea they were illegal - never crossed my mind to bother googling it. I plan on going to court as well, how did you make out?
Well unfortunately I wasn’t as lucky as you. I went to the court house then was told you submit disputes online. I went home, submitted my dispute and it was rejected. I must pay a fine of $324 . I don’t work in Edmonton so I don’t have to live here, I’ll be moving next year so the city or the EPS doesn’t get another dime from me.
As a driver on the road I’m very concerning when these scooter cross the cross road with high speed. There are already so much to watch already when you are on the road, especially upcoming traffic, cars. If it is normal walking low speed pedestrians, driver have time to see them and address the situation better, but having a fast e scooter run out of the blind spot give us a cracking nerd as we don’t have enough time to react and some of the e-transfer driver are so reckless, having the headphone on, no traffic education at all
That's what people do in Toronto. Yes, they are "banned", but if you're riding them respectfully and safely then nobody cares. Any law that limits accessibility should be heavily protested.

Would the owners of the rental scooters also be the ones who made the law?

Soon we won’t be able to fly a kite, these laws are getting ridiculous..
How’s it going now?

Yea but that would promote self reliance.
Money grab to only allow people to ride with rental scooters. Complete joke.
Use them. Who's going to notice or stop you? Paint it green and go.
