I would definitely be down for this controller. I use Sennheisser GSP 500s with DLS on the Series S. Not sure if settings in this controller would conflict with that.

That's great to hear! Yeah they won't work together but the SWARM software will give you more adjustment than the controller anyway so that's a plus. For $60 the buttons and sticks alone are worth it.
How does the sensitivity compare to a normal xbox one/series controller? I have always foind that 3rd party analog sticks especially when aiming are waaaay to sensitive
@@ivankitching2952 it's funny you say that, when I'm in a menu it feels like too fast like it skips to the next selection. But when playing a game, so far, A+
i just got this controller today in the mail and my only problem with it is the LT and RT triggers are SO TIGHT, its a uncomfortable feeling and after 30 min of playing my fingers were tired, iv never played with a controller with tight triggers and i don't like this on a controller.
How does the mixer compare to the astro mixamp pro tr? I'd love to see your opinion comparing the preset equalizer options to the astro, using dolby Atmos.
With USB mode on the Mixamp Pro, none of the EQ presets work. The only advantage to the Mixamp pro is the large physical dials which feel great to use, and the even higher power output. The EQ settings on the Mixamp pro work if you can feed it optical audio somehow. Otherwise you just use the Atmos app but to me it doesn’t sound nearly as nice. The recon controller is straight plug and play, and a better bang for your buck of course, but ultimately the Mixamp pro just packs more juice.
@@devinebeast720 No its just a good value. The Mixamp Pro has a more open soundstage and it seems to do a better job with imaging at distant objects. It’s even better if you have optical feeding into it. This is great considering you get a solid controller with sound that’s similar to a new Xbox controller, but then has all the preset options which is what helps give more control. Then the audio mixer fading chat and game volume is awesome add. Hope that helps!
That's probably in the next version. I expect them to build something feature competitive with the Razer TE but cheaper. In the meantime, for $60, I'll try it. I only use 2 back buttons most of the time anyways.
Great review as always. I pre-ordered the white one from Turtle Beach so it would match my Series S. Glad to hear it's well made for it's price point. I also use a Elite 2 but never use the trigger stops so I'm not upset the Recon doesn't include them. Correct me though if I'm wrong but doesn't the Xbox already add game/chat balance and microphone monitoring to a headset plugged into the 3.5mm port? I know on the audio icon from the dashboard I see them there and it seems to function properly. Though I notice microphone monitoring has to be almost maxed out to notice it. Still to have it at your fingertips will be nice. Almost forgot to ask but since you have the controller in hand. Is the cable a standard USB-C to USB-A it something proprietary? Asking because I play at a desk so a 9-10 foot cable is overkill. I'm curious if I could use something shorter in the 4ft range.
Great questions Curtis! Xbox does included them but as you mentioned it's very faint. Also, having it on the controller is critical in fast paced games where you need to adjust volume and game/chat mix frequently, as using the Xbox interface is much slower and cumbersome. Like you mentioned, the Xbox mic monitoring is almost non-existent, just like their own wireless headset. The USB-C to A cable is NOT proprietary so you can use any cable you want, which is awesome. Hope that helps!
@@GadgetryTech ...thanks for the reply. Helps immensely as I already have a nice 4ft cable ready then. I agree fully about having the audio adjustments right there available on the fly. Can't wait for my controller to ship.
Awesome! Use the link in the description if purchasing through Amazon as it helps support our channel with buying more products to review! Either way, glad to have helped, and I think you'll really enjoy it.
Thanks for the review. So this controller is probably better at driving headphones than the standard wireless controller that Microsoft makes? I'm not a pro gamer so don't really care about competitive performance from my controllers. What I am looking for is a controller to specifically power my Sen HD599 as I use these exclusively while gaming. What are your thoughts? Is there a better controller I should be looking at for headphone use? Cheers.
This is the main question I'm looking at as to weather this controller powers a headset better than the standard xbox controller. To kinda elevate that volume a notch or 2. Looking at buying these and wonder the same thing
This is defo a game changer. I'm worried it I get it that my mic will buzz in parties because that's what happend when I plug a normal xbox controller into the xbox.
Anyone else been having issues with aiming diagonally where its just insane acceleration no matter what you do with the settings its been doing it for the past couple of weeks other then that a great controller
Man now that you say that on Halo Infinite it seems that’s one of the issues for me. I would recommend maybe buying the precision rings in the Green color from KFreek.
I can imagine, how great is the game volume and the quality of the grip, but the analogs ?? usually 2/3 months and they break… I would like to know if they are resistant enough against continuous use
Great review! I have a few questions. So I just purchased the audeze penrose headset. Should I be worried about pairing it with this control due to the headset having a built in dac/amp & has to be powered on while using the 3.5 still? Has anyone used this specific setup and if so how does it sound?
when you aim down sight it turns the sensitivity down so you have more precision. a lot of games now have settings for sensitivity and aim down sight sensitivity tho.
I don't think it's a game changer honestly. It's very comfortable, and feels cool, but not a night and day difference over my Elite 2. It's a super lightweight controller which means there's less mass to pull heat from your hands. The cooling grips offset that so at the end of 3-4 hour gaming sessions my hands felt comfortable. The light weight is awesome though for long sessions, as it requires a lot less effort to hold the controller while you play.
The issue with all these third-party controllers is that after a couple years all that rubber, because it's a total crap quality, we'll start getting super ticky tacky and sticky. I have AKG K812s and the B&O Xbox headset. Will the Antlion mic work with the AkGs if I don't use this controller and use the stock Series X controller? Thanks for the review.
Good points. I can't knock this controller's long term reliability because it would be pure speculation at this point. I've had other products last much longer than expected so hopefully this is the same. Even at 2-3 years it's worth it because most controllers have button failure/stick drift at that point any way. The Antlion Modmic Uni will work on the stock Xbox controllers without a problem problem, as long as you use the Y splitter (or at least something like it). From there, you would have to use the Xbox on-screen audio adjustments for volume, game to chat mix, and mic monitoring. The advantage with the Recon controller is the fast adjustments, slightly higher volume output, and EQs which give you more control with different sound profiles. On the Xbox side you can use the Atmos app to tune, but again it's a few extra steps.
Hell if this last a couple of year's I will gladly replace it at it's $60 price. I had 4 Xbox Elite controllers crap put and they are triple the price.
Bro i just bought the recon 200 how well does this controller work with them i play really compettitive on call of duty so i need good sounds aswell as a solid controller was gonna go buy an aim contoller but if this is just as good may aswell get this? Thoughts?
hello , thanks for the review, I would like to ask a question, I hope you may know how to help - I have bought this recon turtle beach controller because I wanted an upgrade after my xbox 360 controller which I used as my main controller for Pc gaming, and I also bought new headphones Philips X2HR. Controller worked but after I installed hesuvi and Apo equalizer , some stuff like volume buttons on controller stopped working, ...I deinstalled , downloaded new drivers for controller ad now is working again. My question is if you were able to use some kind of surrounnd - software or hardware solution like amp/dac with this controller while still being functionable. What would be your suggestions for surround with recon controller ?
The microphone doesn't work on this controller. I got a turtle beach wired headset as well. I plugged everything in like the instructions say. I download the turtle beach app on the xbox and updated the firmware on the controller with the headset plugged in. I've gone through every setting, my mic is turned on in all the options yet it doesn't work. I unplugged the recon and turned on a normal xbox controller and plugged up the mic and it works just fine. So something is wrong with the recon controller. Went to the support and they walked me through all the same steps I already tried and they didn't have a answer except get a refund. No, I want my brand new controller to work like it's supposed to. Everything works on it but the mic. But this is just like how new technology works. You add new features and it causes more problems, lol.
Honestly it sounds like yours is defective as I tried about 10 different headsets or so on it when I we testing things out. The mic worked fine on all of them, including when I used a splitter to handle larger headphones.
How does the sensitivity compare to a normal xbox one/series controller? I have always foind that 3rd party analog sticks especially when aiming are waaaay to sensitive
I plugged in my controller and attached my headset and my volume was very quiet and I tried to adjust it and it cut off my volume completely any idea how to fix this?
How do the buttons hold out and how is the overall quality i broke mine controller from the series S and looking for a new one how is this one holding up. Does it get drifft within weeks or is it a solid piece of tech.
I have the Xbox series X wireless headphones. The sound quality is better with the recon 500 with the controller than just using the the Xbox headphones and just a regular controller 🎮? I need to know so I won't buy the recon 500.
You can still use any wireless headset you want! You just can't use the audio features on the controller itself. Even with that being said, it's still a great gaming controller at $60 US. The 700 is an amazing headset though, so I would definitely keep using that! The LS25 wasn't bad by any means but the 700 G2 sounds better, is more comfortable, has more features, and a better mic.
Realistically 32 or lower is ideal. You could approach 100+ ohms but depending on sensitivity you may not have enough juice as you'll likely be under 15 milliwatts.
The only question i have, is the feel of the buttons. With the stock xbox one controller, the RB and LB break super easily and doesnt feel durable. What would you say about the durability of the buttons, by just feeling them and using them for your gaming?
Problem with playing wired on Xbox is your mic will buzz and it will piss off everyone in your party. At least every controller I've had has caused this.
@@finnconnolly1 I have a new Series controller and an astro headset. When I play wired it makes my mic buzz, I can't hear it but my party can and it's pretty loud and annoying. So I had to buy battery packs and play wirelessly.

If there's little too no stick drift I'm sold already. I on the power A and I can literally play zero dead zone using linear too so how does it compare?
This is a very very close second to SOME PowerA controllers. I have about 4-5 PowerA controllers and most are great but this did measure better than a couple of them. I can't say it's 100% definitive because as you know, some controllers come better than others BUT the overall feedback of this controller has been amazing and so has my experience with it.
Hello mate ive recently just got a pair of turtle beach elite pro 2 and will be getting the turtle beach recon controller I'm just wondering if there's a way to use the recon controller with the superamp any help would greatly be appreciated ty 👍🏻
If the super amp allows 3.5mm TRRS in and out, then you can use that + the Recon audio out if you have USB power going to it. I can't guarantee it'd be worth the effort but if you try it let me know!
@@GadgetryTech OK cool I'll try get it to work but if I can't would you say the reacon controller would be just as good as the superamp if I'm only able to use 1 at a time
I bought this controller and ended up returning it the next day after trying it for less than an hour. The sticks and the buttons felt cheap and were sticking which isnt a good sign. The back paddles however are actually great, well spaced, and feels really smooth, and the audio feature is pretty decent to.
If I were to use Stealth 700 Headset with a wire while using an Xbox or pc, will I still be able to use the mic or will the mic be useless? What I mean is, can I use the mic of the headset when using it wired to the controller?
It will work thanks to the high sensitivity of that model, but won't be as loud as even a $50 dedicated headphone amp. Just trying to set realistic expectations as the controller is closer to 30mw. I tried a much lower sensitivity headphone to see how it would go and while it was just loud enough to be usable, it could be louder. This is the same scenario with any controller amp trying to power strong headphones. The difference here is the super human hearing audio boost, EQ tweeks, and better audio control. You could always consider a small inline amp if you need more juice.
I suppose it comes down to if you use the tall thumbstick or not, and if you need these audio controls or not. The Elite 2 is a better controller from a gaming perspective (hair trigger, 4 paddles, fully customizable, wireless, etc.). The Recon is much less expensive but still great in it's own way, and a huge plus for people that want fast audio adjustments with wired headsets.
That's just way to much going on to play Xbox, adapters, multiple wires going from the controller to your head wires across the floor to the Xbox. Good audio is great if your at your pc or plugged into a dac listening to lossless but come on playing CoD and listening to Spotify on Xbox doesn't require this mess use a wireless headset and controller.
Only if the wireless headset can use a 3.5mm port and be used as a wired headset. I use my Blackshark V2 Pro wired all the time plugged into a Xbox controller. Works perfectly and will work with the Recon controller

Fantastic review, thankyou! ...im sold i just purchased a new controller in black
Also wish I could afford those 3k headset and little jelly now being an audiophile myself.
I would definitely be down for this controller. I use Sennheisser GSP 500s with DLS on the Series S. Not sure if settings in this controller would conflict with that.
Great review on TB geAR, i HAVE A HYPER HEADSET WITH THAT MIC ON AND OFF SLID BUTTON SPOT ON ABOUT IT. iSSUE WITH ALL ms controllers is left analog stick fails. Looks like the tb gear goes hand in hand.
the headset youve got there bud looks crazy .. reminds me of a cyberman from doctor who...
Lol that’s awesome. Thanks!
@@GadgetryTech Love it buddy i like the retro look about it m8. what make is it or is it a custom build fella.. liked and subbed too bud as i loved the vid m8
Great review. I wish I needed this controller but the elite series 2 ticks all the boxes for my needs atm
Love your reviews. Wish you great success!
You sold me! I just ordered mine!
Great at 1st with loads of features but after only 1 month I have a wobbly left stick that's drifts everywhere...it seems turtle beach just use cheap crap plastic parts inside their controllers as it happens so much on their new controllers. I used to love this turtle beach controller but not anymore 😡
I already pre ordered mine :)
I just purchased the black version recon controller . I also have Roccat elo 7.1 usb so at the moment I cant use these with my TB recon controller. Oh and i play pc and this controller is fucking awesome. Seriously.
That's great to hear! Yeah they won't work together but the SWARM software will give you more adjustment than the controller anyway so that's a plus. For $60 the buttons and sticks alone are worth it.
Excellent review, my pair just came in today and I love it. What is that attachment that let's you use a mic and headset separately

@GadgetryTech Do you notice better audio quality using this controller over the mix amp pro with astros? Is it closer to the optical audio quality?
@@devinebeast720 No its just a good value. The Mixamp Pro has a more open soundstage and it seems to do a better job with imaging at distant objects. It’s even better if you have optical feeding into it. This is great considering you get a solid controller with sound that’s similar to a new Xbox controller, but then has all the preset options which is what helps give more control. Then the audio mixer fading chat and game volume is awesome add. Hope that helps!
@@GadgetryTech thank you so much for your reply it definitely answered my questions. Happy holidays brotha!
I wish I would have known about this before spending alot more on the elite
Elite is a big shit, the controler break after only 3 month of playing
Get the Razer Wolverine TE. dont get the ultimate. Trust me. Its a TANK and its super comfy and reliable
it came out just a week ago. im so exited to try it out and is very affordable.
I had the Elite series 2, this Turtle beach controllers is better in every way, and I'm not joking. Sell it.
@@winntheriot9837 how much would you sell an elite for bro mines is in perfect condition
If this had 4 remappable back buttons I would run n buy.
PowerA is not over 100 dollars. You really need to correct that. Thanks for this video again.
Got the pro fusion 2, I like it, but for $60.00 bucks, I’m gonna buy and try out the turtle beach controller.
Fusion pro is a trash. Mine broke after 2 months, and they couldnt fix it.
I haven't had any mic buzz with mine and I used 4 different wired headsets on it in testing.
My mic hardly works with this controller (wired)
Great review! I have a few questions. So I just purchased the audeze penrose headset. Should I be worried about pairing it with this control due to the headset having a built in dac/amp & has to be powered on while using the 3.5 still? Has anyone used this specific setup and if so how does it sound?
they have USB port audi devices for xbox. i noticed you only mentioned controller jack and optical only.
The bumpers were too mushy for me. They felt terrible. Had to return them for that. Also the super human hearing sounds terrible.
Elite series 2 ❤️
the problem i have with wireless headsets,... they cause LAG on gameservers in combo with the TB recon controller
What does the Pro aim actually do?
when you aim down sight it turns the sensitivity down so you have more precision. a lot of games now have settings for sensitivity and aim down sight sensitivity tho.
What is with the cooling grips, do you feel a difference to other controllers?
I don't think it's a game changer honestly. It's very comfortable, and feels cool, but not a night and day difference over my Elite 2. It's a super lightweight controller which means there's less mass to pull heat from your hands. The cooling grips offset that so at the end of 3-4 hour gaming sessions my hands felt comfortable.
The light weight is awesome though for long sessions, as it requires a lot less effort to hold the controller while you play.
Can you use a usb mic, headphone, and this controller on Xbox?
I’ve been having problems with the audio I can’t hear anything
Its the best controller i tested buy it IF you like better vibrations better feel better sound The sens it pretty much The same
I plugged in my controller and attached my headset and my volume was very quiet and I tried to adjust it and it cut off my volume completely any idea how to fix this?
So would I be able to use my Blue yeti microphone?
How do the buttons hold out and how is the overall quality i broke mine controller from the series S and looking for a new one how is this one holding up. Does it get drifft within weeks or is it a solid piece of tech.
Good and responsive for Warzone?
Weired my kontrol freaks stick caps don't fit.. wtf
I have the Xbox series X wireless headphones. The sound quality is better with the recon 500 with the controller than just using the the Xbox headphones and just a regular controller 🎮? I need to know so I won't buy the recon 500.
this or razer wolverine v2 chroma?
is there anyway to record gameplay with the audio processing ?
So i have to box up my turtle beach 700 gen 2 wireless headset, and unbox my lucidsound ls25 to enjoy this controller 🤷😱
@@GadgetryTech thank you for your reply, also thank you for showing the kontrol freeks fit, thats a plus plus, coz i gots a lot of them 😊😀
Nice! Yeah I was stoked when they snapped on
Mappable buttons for 60 bucks is why I got it. Sick of people having beter movement lol
What’s the sound resolution when this little guy’s plugged into a PC?
does this controller have better audio quality than the razed wolverines?
ONLY wired? it has no Bluethooth???, their is no mic on the controller???
I have 4 xbox controllers and all 4 the headphone jack doesn't work
*Are the triggers responsive enough to play games like apex legends?*
Can it power beyerdynamic 990 250ohm?
What ohm headphones do you think you could drive off this?
Realistically 32 or lower is ideal. You could approach 100+ ohms but depending on sensitivity you may not have enough juice as you'll likely be under 15 milliwatts.
The only question i have, is the feel of the buttons. With the stock xbox one controller, the RB and LB break super easily and doesnt feel durable. What would you say about the durability of the buttons, by just feeling them and using them for your gaming?
Honestly the quality is top notch for this controller. It's better than any 3rd party controller I've used, and they feel extremely solid.
Problem with playing wired on Xbox is your mic will buzz and it will piss off everyone in your party. At least every controller I've had has caused this.
Me too that why I'm hesitant. Idk if it's my old turtle beach headset causing the issue
@@finnconnolly1 I have a new Series controller and an astro headset. When I play wired it makes my mic buzz, I can't hear it but my party can and it's pretty loud and annoying. So I had to buy battery packs and play wirelessly.
I have Xbox one and this controller no buzzing in party still haven’t figured out the pro aim button yet tho
@@AdamH7 yeah same with me! I got series x wireless controller and plugged it it to see if It was same as xbox one ans it was. Thkught it might of been my old px21 headset but no im worried 😂
Just plug it in on you're mobile charger no buzzing at all
Does this mess w/dolby atmos on series x? I have a elite v2 controller already
Sounds like you obviously had a defective one
Controller is nice, fails when using xbox game chat. 3.5 jack doesn't seat properly
If I were to use Stealth 700 Headset with a wire while using an Xbox or pc, will I still be able to use the mic or will the mic be useless? What I mean is, can I use the mic of the headset when using it wired to the controller?
just got this controller today and there's literally no sound what so ever. is this an easy fix or did I get a faulty controller?
Bro can you give me a good set up on the controller it self
Is this available for PS4?
Did anyone know how I set the eq completley off?
The joysticks are terrible
I hope it was just a defective unit, but the one I had(which I returned to Amazon), there was literally no sound.
That seems rare, as overall the reviews on this controller are amazing. Mine has been great.
just got mine today, no sound what so ever
Can I use the 120 ohms Senheisser HD560s without problems?
It will work thanks to the high sensitivity of that model, but won't be as loud as even a $50 dedicated headphone amp. Just trying to set realistic expectations as the controller is closer to 30mw. I tried a much lower sensitivity headphone to see how it would go and while it was just loud enough to be usable, it could be louder. This is the same scenario with any controller amp trying to power strong headphones. The difference here is the super human hearing audio boost, EQ tweeks, and better audio control. You could always consider a small inline amp if you need more juice.
Does the controller create a buzzing in the headset because it is wired?
Nope
does mic monitoring work on razer v2x or just for turtle beach headsets?
It works on any wired headset!
@@GadgetryTech cheers, I'm tempted... Only thing I could do with is 4 back buttons. I currently have the elite 2
I suppose it comes down to if you use the tall thumbstick or not, and if you need these audio controls or not. The Elite 2 is a better controller from a gaming perspective (hair trigger, 4 paddles, fully customizable, wireless, etc.). The Recon is much less expensive but still great in it's own way, and a huge plus for people that want fast audio adjustments with wired headsets.
works for any wired headset with a mic
Can you still use a wireless headset with this controller?
You can use it, but u dont have access to the programs
That's just way to much going on to play Xbox, adapters, multiple wires going from the controller to your head wires across the floor to the Xbox. Good audio is great if your at your pc or plugged into a dac listening to lossless but come on playing CoD and listening to Spotify on Xbox doesn't require this mess use a wireless headset and controller.
Does this support kontrolfreeks?
Watch the video
sooooo nothing on the precise aim then? just all audio. cheers
Does it work with a wireless headphones
Only if the wireless headset can use a 3.5mm port and be used as a wired headset. I use my Blackshark V2 Pro wired all the time plugged into a Xbox controller. Works perfectly and will work with the Recon controller
can kontrolfreek fit on those joysticks?
i have the galaxy so i will be good?
Yes they work!
3000$ dude Jesus is it worth it?
Omfg my thumbsticks don't fit on this wtff
