    The Fender sounds pretty typical of any acoustic.
    There is something uniquely different about the Gretsch. It may be due to the neck joining at the 12th instead of 14th fret. I like different so I'll go with the Gretsch☺️

    The Jim Dandy does seem to sound a little warmer to my ears. But it's very close. I bought the Fender Sonora Mini in black because frankly it just looks cooler with that classic Fender neck..

    Thanks for the video. I own 11 guitars and have been playing for nearly 60 years. I just bought a Jim Dandy and love it. Thanks again

    Fender is more punchy , gretch is warmer, it's all personal preference. I like the fender. The gretch is cool for what it is

    I prefer the Gretsch, but I think I'm going to learn more about Orangewood Oliver Jr. I'm not sure though. I just want a small bodied guitar, because my full scaled guitars are causing shoulder pain. The downside of getting old.

    I bought a Jim dandy and my wife bought me the Gin Ricky which has more pinstripe and a cool retro pick up in it they are very loud voice guitars, we pass em around at Holliday get togethers.

    Definitely the fender has a way more punchy sound I would add second pick guard up top and a good fishman pickup maybe up grade to a better bone nut and the pins as well and that would make for a perfect little gypsy style travel guitar

    I chose the Fender in Natural at $160 American delivered, well to be delivered Saturday. I could not find the Gretsch at time of order, the bridge looks better with out the pins. That could be a difference in sound? It will be my second Fender acoustic, I really like my OrangeWood as well.

    24 hour up date the Fender is fine on the base, little tinny/plastic sounding on high E string. Build was very good, its head heavy on a strap that doesn’t grip well I use sheep skin/fuzz on leather strap. Put a tuner on it out of the box was very close to tune, Indonesian build not as some have said China.

  • @Doowopsid

    They both sound great. Do you know wha5 strings are on the Gretsch? Thanks

  • @matthewridgeway9250

    I think over time the Indonesian made Gretsch will start to have problems, such as bridge separartion from the guitar top. The Gretsch is certainly a very fun guitar with a great sound and tone closer to the sound they were trying to achieve as a parlour guitar and remeniscent of those great blues guitar players of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. The Gretsch is also fantastic for open chord slide guitar playing.
    Another thing is the fun one can have modifying the Gretsch. For example, one could fit a single coil pickup in the sound hole or a piezzo pickup under the bridge or under the sound board. I prefer the single coil pickup because piezzo pickups sometimes pick up more sound than desired from holding or brushing your sleeve across the top of the guitar.
    To resolve the bridge lifting, I fitted a "Selmer Maccaferrie" style tail piece to my Gretsch and cur back the bridgeplate with a router so the strings can go directly over the bridge saddle.
    I have a Fender Malibu too. And it is a bigger guitar than the fender you showed in your video. It has a Fishman pickup already fitted and it is really really very good. Build quality is excellent. The Fender is made in China and sounds wonderful. It cost a lot more than the Gretsch did but is not without its problems. It needs a fret level.
    But the fun had with the Jim Dandy, I don't know why, but it is a joy to play for some reason. I suppose it has a raw and dramatic tone that you can use to your advantage where your mood of playing is easily expresssed some how. With increased build quality, even with a slight elevation in purchase price, newer versions of the Jim Dandy could be perfect. I have written to Gretsch about it. I hope they paid attention, but I believe that an increased neck angle, tail piece and floating bridge would make these guitars really excellent.
    As for the Fender, don't change a thing, but level the frets thanks.

      The Gibson company sells Indonesian and Chinese guitars under the name Epiphone and Kramer, these guitars have nothing peeling off, at the moment you are wearing Chinese sneakers and a T-shirt

    I don't hear the difference in tone wood at all. Maybe I have to be in the room? To me, they both have that great boxy sound that goes well with bluegrass and blues. An acquired taste. Like loving cheap wine. I have the Jim Dandy and here is what I have found after a few years. it seems to me that the smaller parlor size keeps the neck from moving around much. So it's kind of like a little tank. As for frets, never do I venture up past the 12th fret. So, the number of frets doesn't matter at all to me. My Dandy is intonated well. Which is really half of the battle IMO. It has a really cheap plastic nut that is turning a different color. But, the nut was cut very well and I have no desire to change it. I did file down the minimal fret sprout. But, the fret work was pretty well done for such an instrument. My fret rocker didn't find any bad frets. So long as the fender Sonoran was intonated well, the nut was cut right, and had the same fret work, I wouldn't mind either.

    • @thomasd9237
      @thomasd9237 Рік тому

      Are you sure the nut is plastic ?? It's supposed to be
      Synth bone but it should not be the el cheapo plastic
      Just saying ...

    • @ericjames8816
      @ericjames8816 Рік тому +1

      @@thomasd9237 Positive. I've had my Jim Dandy for a few years now, so they may have changed things. But, my nut is definitely plastic. Synthetic bone is usually considered plastic by folks. There are some youtube videos on the topic. To me, I'd rather have the nut cut right and be plastic vs. cut wrong and be bone.

    I'm so torn on which of these two I should get.
    I teach music in elementary school and want a portable guitar for accompanying them when we sing and there's no piano available.
    Which one of the two would give me the most versatility and preferred tone/volume in my use case scenario? It would be my first guitar, too.

    • @andrewjbloom
      @andrewjbloom 6 місяців тому

      I find that the Gretsch Jim Dandy is a somewhat challenging guitar to play, for me at least. I wouldn't recommend as a first guitar, I think it would make a beginner guitar player find playing a lot more difficult than it needs to be to progress as a player. Fender makes pretty decent guitars in this price range.

    Nie jestem znawcą gry na gitarze, ale po odsłuchu tego nagrania muszę przyznać wyższość Gretsch Jim Dandy. W tej gitarze słychać każdą strunę z osobna, jest bardziej selektywna, nie ma zakłóceń i przedłużania dźwięków być może przez to że nie rezonuje tak jak Fender Sonoran Mini. Dla jednych głębsze i ostrzejsze brzmienie będzie zaletą dla innych wadą! Wg mnie Fender Sonoran Mini brzmi jak każda dobra gitara akustyczna a Gretsch Jim Dandy brzmi inaczej dlatego ma to coś co trudno wyrazić słowami i chce się jej słuchać!

    Не всё так однозначно.. к сожалению не могу вживую взять и послушать одновременно обе, чтобы сделать окончательные выводы для себя.
    Возникло пару несколько вопросов:
    - какая из гитар более универсальная в звучании ( для игры боем, перебором)?
    - какая из гитар удобнее для начинающих (в смысле высоты струн, удобства игры в целом)?
    Буду признателен за ответ

    • @bestguitarsnow
      @bestguitarsnow  9 місяців тому

      Both are great and comfortable to play for beginners so I don't think there's a clear winner :) but since Gretsch has a more vintage feel and style, Fender may be a better option for those who aren't necessarily looking for that.

    • @Racer_man
      @Racer_man 9 місяців тому

      По внешнему виду они мне обе нравятся каждая по своему)
      А вот по звуку с Ютуб конечно же судить некорректно,но мне показался звук у Gretsch более плоский, а у Fender наоборот более глубокий. Так ли это? ведь вы слышали их обе вживую
      Какая из гитар лучше раскрывается при игре с медиатором и перебором
      К сожалению нет никакой возможности самому сыграть на обеих и услышать самому
