This was me lol. I only start play the game after saw some vid NikkexReZero collab. Always skip the story to farm gems and tickets fast lol and eventually skip every single story. After just start 2nd acc on last week it hit me different as I never skip the story. What have I done?! 😔 I still skipping story on my main acc though so I can enjoy on 2nd acc. Though Im not skipping current story on main acc as the story progress at the part just recovering her.
What I like about the game’s world is that for all of its initial appearances (beautiful girls, advanced technology, etc) it’s a crap sack world if you look closely, and I’m not talking about what goes on in the outer rim. Continually depleting resources, “commanders” being nothing more than cannon fodders to be thrown at the enemy, social disparity, NIKKE abuse and the questions about their existence, all while trying to keep up this appearance of normalcy.
She was there for us at the start, didn’t mind the usage of us applying a bandage on her despite that being not very effective for a Nikke. Protecting us as well. Only to end up getting corrupted. Man, this scene hurt & it was just the start of the game.
what's worst is, unlike the other Nikke that got corrupted on the field, she got corrupted inside the ARK, which means the moment she is created she is may already been corrupted

All the Marians in NIKKE heaven: "Hey look, a new one!" "How did you get here?" "Eh, the usual, my commander didn't get the SSR he wanted, so he rerolled the account" "Tough luck for us Marians here"
I may be looking into this too much (since this story was so fucking good) but I believe Marian's "Over here" are more than you think they are. I spotted a total of 5 different moments, each showing all different emotions during her process of being hijacked. The first stage is confusion. Her first 2 "Over here" 's were spoken subconsciously. Notice how she said they were there (at the rendezvous point) but neither Rapi, Anis nor Commander saw any Rapture or Nikke, not even a single shooting sound, it was plain quiet. Then she started to run away and began searching in confusion after leading to what she thought was extraction point. In her mind, these orders are from the Ark but in reality, she was already controlled by the Blacksmith. The second stage is fear. As she was searching, Rapi suddenly stopped her and questioned about the explosion. This triggered something in her brain, it's a memory, one that Marian doesn't know but the corruption does. In fear of being wiped out before it finishes the job, the corruption went haywire and attempted to quickly take over her system. Executing orders not within her program and now suddenly hijacked without prior knowledge, Marian was frightened of what was happening to her, letting both fear and the corruption consumed her, rapidly accelerated the take-over process, allowing it to broadcast distress signals to the Blacksmith and nearby Raptures. These "Over here" are loud and distorted, as if something is mimicking Marian rather than her natural voice. The third stage is retaliation. Shortly after the initial fear, Marian's consciousness figured out what was going on and began her own counterattack, shown by the change in the distress signals. "Over here" weren't coherent anymore, they slowed down, glitched, cutting off more and more as they continue, this is the sign that she was fighting her corruption within, in an attempt to hope she could somehow save her Commander and the remaining Nikkes. The fourth stage is despair. It was too late, Blacksmith got there first before she could completely stop the signals and was taken by it. Her hope was extinguished. She caused the death of her Commander and could only await her inevitable demise followed suit as the Blacksmith slowly tearing her limbs down for scraps and letting the corruption eating away. After the Commander defeated Blacksmith, what was left of Marian is an empty shell, defected to only keep repeating "Over here" mindlessly. But seeing her Commander and remember the warmth his bandages were, Marian entered her last stage, acceptance. She knew that she would have to die. She barely formed a complete sentence and it's safe to assume most of her body had already been controlled. Besides, even if the Commander spared her, due to the Ark's code, she would have to take her own life as she not only failed to protect him but also put him in danger. With her conscious fading and turning, it was natural that she wanted to be put out of her misery as soon as possible, both for herself and others. And who else would she rather die to than her trusted Commander who made her feel more human than anyone could have ever done. These "Over here" is pretty self-explanatory: "Commander, aim here, I'm glad my journey started with you and ended with you." SHIFT UP, congratulations on making me cry ugly for the longest time and given me an unforgettable character in the span of 5 minutes. I'd love to see more of this. p.s. She was turned into a heretic even after getting her brains blown out, and somehow the commander is able to get her to remember you. I think you save her from the raptures later on in the story.
A couple of things that can be taken from this. 1) is that she can still be playable in the future because she has a full kit done, but probably won't be our Marian; would be surprised if she still is after what happens in the story. 2) if she did end up dying, our Marian is in a Nikke heaven since apparently there is an afterlife for Nikkes that was shown in the Elevator event in the Outpost.

For me it was the shock of: -Knowing Nikke could be corrupted. -Fighting Blacksmith expecting Marian to be okay after beating it. -Losing the first friend made in the road. I really love this game.
If you think about it, we don't know Marian for a long time, but we still feel sad when we must Shot her. Imagine how Dorothy's Feeling, when she must Shot Pinne. Not only Dorothy knows Pinne for longer time, but for Dorothy, Pinne is the really important NIKKE for her. Dorothy even called Pinne as 'Her Wing' (For Goddess, wing are the one that can make them fly... So yeah, Pinne is that important for Dorothy). Somehow, I can understand Dorothy when we meet with her for the 1st time.
"Thank you for your bandages"... This is a character death that I will never move on from...This messed me up... I hope they'll add her in game soon, just for copium...

man, i was shocked when this happened. i mean, i know she's corrupted, but i was kinda hoping that the corruption somehow "died" because of the new affection we gave her. but yeah... and to make it even worse, just right before this mission, in the cutscene just a moment before she was "koko desu"-ing, i literally said to myself "man, marian is really sweet eh, i like her" then this happened... im expecting the game to have depression vibe, even the first loading screen is somehow sad (u know, the one where rapi look away, inside the elevator thingy (it also plays when we got back to ark) but ya... i did not expect it to be this early edit: the main loading screen is indeed.... depressing... knowing the fact about the lore of the elevator itself
I just started playing and this scene did hurt me, I had grown fond of Marian and I wanted her to be my main character, I hope she comes back in some way, but if not, I hope they can add her to the nikkepedia at least so I can see her again
Honestly, this game reminds me of Anime 86, Nier Automata and Punishing Gray Raven This game is truly a "Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover" moments, props to the developers 👏🏻
Funnily enough the devs are making a Nier Automata like game called Stellar Blade but it seems its taking too long to make so its probably in development hell, Shift Up was a studio founded by a Blade&Soul illustrator and his friend now turned into a decent sized company and only growing bigger from Nikke's success.
Man this is the first game where the commander/captain is cannon and even have a cinematic Edit:to avoid misunderstandings,i mean this is the first game of this kind (gacha waifu )where the history can not progress without the commander,and he is real in the history

While you - seeing NIKKE as humans, instead of monsters or machines. Even when you bandaged Marian's eye - looks sad, but honorable for her. Such actions reveal the personality of yours.

the pain... when the last mission just before the Boss (Blacksmith), I already have a bad feeling. Marian was too much attached to protecting me (commander) like she is different in another sense than Rapi and Anis, I have a bad feeling that she would gonna die (protecting me) someday, but I never thought her end was so fast and like this. I'll never forget you, Marian!!
The first time i saw her I thought her role would be the same as Amiya from Arknight. someone we seen in the game for the first time and will be our assistant during our journey until this scene finally happened and broke my heart
for some reason i know she is going to die for an emotional thing but they did it incredibly well i didnt think i was gonna feel anything because i already have this thought in my mind that shes gonna die or something but this scene is really well done very good writing here.
Very emotional scene that makes re rolling hard as when i was playing through the tutorial again. i noticed marian eyes glowed red whenever she reloads which is very good foreshadowing that she got corrupted
Not too sure if this detail was for this reason but whenever she reloaded during a mission her eyes glowed red which indicated that she was already corrupted (just an assumption)

Continue from the comment above me; The one that brought her back as Modernia, actually not us... But Chatterbox. So yeah, it's really not us. After she became Modernia, then we succeeded to take her back with us, from Chatterbox. Still, the one who revived Marian into Modernia, was indeed Chatterbox (And No, I don't mean we must say thank you to him; He is still an *sshole. We still hate him).
And if you think about it, our mere act of kindness to her is probably what prevents the Ark from being completely destroyed. Ingrid states that Modernia is so powerful she can SOLO the entire Ark and its military...and we are the only thing that's holding her back.

This was a Wake-up call that basically told yoi "We're not going to sugarcoat stuff, there's depressing stuff, there's death on your loved ones"

man, i was shocked when this happened. i mean, i know she's corrupted, but i was kinda hoping that the corruption somehow "died" because of the new affection we gave her. but yeah...
and to make it even worse, just right before this mission, in the cutscene just a moment before she was "koko desu"-ing, i literally said to myself "man, marian is really sweet eh, i like her"
then this happened...
im expecting the game to have depression vibe, even the first loading screen is somehow sad (u know, the one where rapi look away, inside the elevator thingy (it also plays when we got back to ark)
but ya... i did not expect it to be this early

Honestly, this game reminds me of Anime 86, Nier Automata and Punishing Gray Raven
This game is truly a "Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover" moments, props to the developers 👏🏻
Funnily enough the devs are making a Nier Automata like game called Stellar Blade but it seems its taking too long to make so its probably in development hell, Shift Up was a studio founded by a Blade&Soul illustrator and his friend now turned into a decent sized company and only growing bigger from Nikke's success.

I see how you are (Commander) respectful to NIKKEs. I saw that most of other commanders just use NIKKEs as tools (by lore), trying to save their own *sses.
While you - seeing NIKKE as humans, instead of monsters or machines.
Even when you bandaged Marian's eye - looks sad, but honorable for her. Such actions reveal the personality of yours.

the pain... when the last mission just before the Boss (Blacksmith), I already have a bad feeling. Marian was too much attached to protecting me (commander) like she is different in another sense than Rapi and Anis, I have a bad feeling that she would gonna die (protecting me) someday, but I never thought her end was so fast and like this.

The first time i saw her I thought her role would be the same as Amiya from Arknight. someone we seen in the game for the first time and will be our assistant during our journey until this scene finally happened and broke my heart

Very emotional scene that makes re rolling hard as when i was playing through the tutorial again. i noticed marian eyes glowed red whenever she reloads which is very good foreshadowing that she got corrupted
Not too sure if this detail was for this reason but whenever she reloaded during a mission her eyes glowed red which indicated that she was already corrupted (just an assumption)

Continue from the comment above me; The one that brought her back as Modernia, actually not us... But Chatterbox. So yeah, it's really not us. After she became Modernia, then we succeeded to take her back with us, from Chatterbox. Still, the one who revived Marian into Modernia, was indeed Chatterbox (And No, I don't mean we must say thank you to him; He is still an *sshole. We still hate him).
And if you think about it, our mere act of kindness to her is probably what prevents the Ark from being completely destroyed. Ingrid states that Modernia is so powerful she can SOLO the entire Ark and its military...and we are the only thing that's holding her back.

im already depressed asf just starting the game… marian does not deserve this, yet when the commander was about to refuse and put back the gun, marian knew she had to be executed, and placed back the gun and her fingers on on the commander’s trigger… This is so depressing
The saddest part in this is...her burst is a global AOE which I needed
I like her just from how the VA delivers her lines. I guess I won't hear the badass way she says "Encounter" for a very long time.
