Thank you, Jack! This was super helpful. The formulas (e.g., Research Philosophy + Research Methodology = Research Paradigm) were a light-bulb moment for me! I went to so many academic training sessions when I did my MA, but not one speaker managed to break this down as clearly as you have here.
Thank you Bronagh! I am so happy to hear this was helpful. Breaking it down clearly is exactly what I'm aiming to do. I'd love to hear what other topics and theories you would find useful so I can dive into those in upcoming videos
I was going to ask for something on literature reviews, but then I checked and found that you already have a video on that! Literature reviews have been super confusing to me. I've had academic advisers (in arts and humanities) who didn't believe in them (said they limited students' creativity) and others who said they were essential. The result was I never got good training on how to do one! It's great that you're putting these resources out there. 😀
@@bronaghbowerman5554 so happy to hear we already had you covered for Literature Review guidance! All opinions aside we think it is important to have the know-how when the need arises
I just started a Ph.D. program last year, and theory/Philosophy classes are not always clear and to the point. This video did a great job. I hope that there are other videos that can help with grasping all these new concepts. :) Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. I was just like the man you showed scratching his head at the beginning, however I ended with much needed clarity. Thanks for the awesome job you did to simplify and explain. Much appreciation.
Hey Makusu, I'm always really happy to hear that my content was helpful! I'm thinking of doing more videos about different research paradigms, what do you think?
@@Proofed.@ Proofed This is a great idea. Very often, we see such academic texts with a wide philosophical understanding with less connection to reality. Hence, many educators need help to judge such research methods.
Wow, this video was so helpful! I always wondered what a research paradigm actually meant, but thanks to this video, I now have a clear understanding. The breakdown and examples provided made it really easy to follow along. Thank you for such an informative and concise explanation! Definitely recommending this to anyone who wants to learn about research paradigms.
Thank you so much for giving such a clear explanation, l have always had problems with things to do with research but fortunately you are shading some light in me. I just suggest suggest that you also put what you will be saying on the screan, especially the explanations so that it can be easy for us to follow up and also jot down notes.
I like the way you broke Each of the terminologies. Right beginning with, Research Methodology, Ontology, epistemology and research paradigm. That was the easiest way ever. I now utilize my Research paradigm after it was easily explained. 😂
Thank you for the explanation. I am still on the fence about which one to use for the question, does gamification increase motivation and engagement in students.
Thank you very much. This was very helpful. But may I ask, how do I write the research paradigm in the thesis? I mean, in which part will it be included? Do I have to mention in the research that I am using this particular type of paradigm??
Hey Rasha! I'm so happy to hear that the video offered you value. Any discussion around your Research Paradigm will normally appear in the Research Strategy (this is usually Chapter 3). Not every university requires that this will be covered, but if yours does, it will normally include: A brief overview of the various ontological/epistomological approaches, including an explanation of when/why they are used and their importance. Quite often, this will include a very brief review of the main researchers supporting the various approaches. A reasoning why you have chosen a particular combination and an explanation of how this will impact their research approach. I hope this offers you some guidance on the matter. Let me know if I can be of any more help 😀
Hi Ayanda, a research paradigm is essentially a framework that your research is based on. It consists of beliefs and understandings from which the theories and practices of your research project operate. I hope that helps!

Thanks so much!
Thank you!!!!! this was sooooo helpful!
Glad it was helpful :)
Correct equations " Ontology + Epistemology + Axiology = Research Philosophy
Research Philosophy + Research Methodology = Research Paradigm"
This was very helpful...thank you!
You're very welcome! Glad you found it helpful :)
Really insightful, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind comments :)
Hi Jack, I wanna ask what constitutes a research paradigm?
Hi Ayanda, a research paradigm is essentially a framework that your research is based on. It consists of beliefs and understandings from which the theories and practices of your research project operate. I hope that helps!
Thank you,👏
very helpful also awesome tattoos:)
Thank you my friend! :)
What about subjectivism?
please where does Axiology comes it? By the waythis was a great explanation
We'll add it to upcoming content :D
what about the research question type "why" does it fall under epistemology or methodology?
Could you provide an example of what you mean? :)
Thank you for the lesson. What about ''Interpretive paradigm''? I saw an M.Phil dissertation with Interpretive paradigm. Can you brief it?
Hi Amna, I've had loads of requests following this video so I'm currently working on a playlist of different paradigm videos, but wow, what a broad topic!!

Hi Jack, kindly make a video on research design

Why the faint music in the background? It's very distracting and doesn't add anything to the video.
We're sorry you found it distracting! We've taken this feedback into account for future videos :)
@@Proofed. It's still a great video, so thanks.

Great to have you on board Jonathan!
now I'm just more confused
What are you missing? Perhaps we can put up some more content on this topic to help make it clearer :)
