- My LEGO inventory is growing and my sorting is evolving. I take my sorting to ANOTHER LEVEL in this video!

I really liked your outside the small parts organizer box thinking.
Really solid video! I enjoyed watching the whole thing.
Thank you! 😊
Love the Alex drawers, game changer really
Thanks for this video! This is how i want to arrange my collection in the future! :)
nice - made a list as I will need to start sorting the LEGO I am getting as well - thanks for the video
man. with all those containers. you are a great usecase for a 3d printer and the gridfinity system.
Yeah, I’m hoping I get a sponsorship from a company that produces 3D printers. 😆
100% gridfinity
Loooooooooove the organisation!!!!!
I have been using two of these containers for storing bits bars and cones and some minifigure bits, some akro mills for as well, but prefer these. I've also used the Brightroom storage from Target over the Ikea ones, one of their longer ones is great. However for the longer plates, I've just cut out my own Cardboard versions of these that fit either 1 or 2 lengthwise the plate or larger bricksize, so there is no wasted space. However my collection is in 4 alex drawers, and mainly store things by part with colors mixed, not separated. Think for things like 6x6 baseplates and larger this might make sense for you as well :)
Did you have the problem where they had a offputting smell when you got them? at first I thought it was the store but not sure if I get them delivered it might be different?, I washed the overall boxes and containers in soap, vinegar, tried a vinegar spray, then rinse, some febreeze, still has the whiff of it, wondered if you had any luck or even this problem?
One nice outcome is that you can remove bins and place them in the case when in use
There has to be a way to buy those inner bins without the outer case, so much wasted plastic if you’re not able to use all the outer cases. At a certain point it maybe more beneficial to 3D print the inner bins thus reducing the need or waste of the outer cases. This is my first video from you and thumbs up so far.
@@MossyRiverRock 3D printing is a good idea! I never worked with one myself, but definitely worth considering. Thanks for watching and for the compliment!
Pete Rondeau has 3d models for the harbor freight bins on his channel for the stock 3 sizes & heights, but also custom sizes for all the lengths and widths. I stack my HF cases in the IKEA TROFAST frame. It fits 12 high. Or can fit the smalls side by side or the taller bins use the space of 2 mediums. 👌
If you're going over like 300 dollar in budget it starts to make more sense to straight up invest in a printer, now a days a 300 dollar printer works out of box and if you're just gonna print storage containers you don't have to worry abiut weird settings.
Also some light cad and you can make costume boxes to fit perfectly.
@@cyborgzloth If I'm impatient I just pickup the sorting boxes from Harbor Freight for $6-9 each, or if you're too far or more patient you can get a box or a few made in a few hours with a $150 ender 3 and a $10-20 spool of yellow filament.
Look up gridfinity and 3d print whatever size you need. Warning its a deep rabit hole
I use the habor freight cases. If you ever need to move, they travel perfectly and don't require any transferring parts. This is a huge benefit for me. Since the cases stack and are sturdy, you dont have to buy furniture for parts storage. Unless you want to, of course. I find this makes it one of the most flexible and affordable options with removable bins. Saving money to buy more Lego instead 😂
best organization I've seen. Very well thought out. Mine is similar but went with all Ikea bins rather than the yellow ones. I think I'm going to have to make the switch for at least some of the thinner drawers though. For a lot of smaller elements, even the small ikea containers are just too large and waste too much space. for my larger drawers I use Ikea Glis containers (the 3 pack) they are the perfect height, the other containers waste too much space. That said, they are only good for larger elements or elements you have a lot of.
Thanks.
5:56 I’m kinda interested in the yellow container with the clear door, haven’t seen that before
Awesome video.
@@worldsheaviestjamband93 Thank you!
I love that you touched on the IKEA bins because they do not work well and they waste a lot of space between and like you said move. The only thing I don’t love about the Alex IKEA bins is you can’t actually see all the way back.
I bought a couple Alex drawer units after this video and noticed that the new ones I got have drawers that pull out a little further (about 1 1/4” more). They’re actually a little better with the access to the back of the drawer. I’m not sure if this will be the case for all units sold from now on or not.
i'm gonna do exactly this but probably spray paint the yellow boxes gray so it matches the look (or not idk)
I don’t mind the bright yellow because it has a “LEGO-like” look.
What’s the brand name of those yellow bins?
Cheapest I’ve seen those type is like $30-40, not 10
The links to harborfreight don't work for me... Maybe it's cause I'm in Europe? (Wondering anyway how to obtain these on this side of the pond without having to sell an organ... postage would be bonkers)
Have a look at AUER PACKAGING. Good alternative for europeans 😉👍🏼
I went with the Sterilite Wide drawers myself so I don't have the Alex problem, however I did see this method vouched for in the past in order to allow the drawer to be pulled out a bit further: ua-cam.com/video/z5t-hKV-aMM/v-deo.html
Although you do have Little Green Brick's safety to consider as well
Oh, I see. Perhaps if the Alex is fastened into the table top it may be ok to do this mod or even better secured to the wall. I have the Alex on wheels loosely rolled under the table. I opened all 6 drawers at once the other day without thought and felt it lean temporarily. Thanks for the heads up and keeping Little Green Brick in mind! 😃
How many cases did you use
Btw do you purposely upload in HDR? It's really hard watching such a long video while getting my retinas seared hahaha
Sorry! What device were you using to watch the video?
Pixel 7 Pro. This is the case with most flagship devices these days and the manufacturers don't let you disable HDR playback 😭
What tables are you using?
Mostly Linnmon table tops from Ikea.
Do the yellow bins have sloped sides so the bins are stackable?
No, they don’t and are not stackable.
They should sell these tubs separately
Agreed!
I will take em
