I cannot believe it took soooo long for me to finally find this video! I searched year after year on UA-cam for the chance to show my family these videos of when I used to march bass drum, then tenors in the drumline and now I finally can! (an added bonus? I found our "CLUE" Winter drumline video on here too!) I loved all 4 years of marching and til this day thank God for the amazing opportunities provided by the Johnny O family. I am sure all other band Alumni from any school will relate to the amazing experience to travel the nation and be with cool and entertaining, creative people that made the marching band experience that much better. The competitions were great and I only wish the future band members experience this for themselves. I will be eternally grateful for the lessons and discipline. Tenor Pimps for life!!
I was a part of this band. This was my first year and arguably the most memorable. That performance and the feeling I had afterward is something that cannot be put into words. I'm a band director now and I still chase that feeling when I'm conducting my band and in my own performance. It was just an amazing feeling. And yes, this was the first year in those uniforms.
@AHProctor Not a problem. I played at Grissom High in Huntsville, AL, and we used to compete against you guys sometimes. We always liked seeing McGavock and Overton, even if we hated competing against you. I had a lot of family that marched at McGavock, so I saw plenty of COCs. At Middle, I missed you by one year.
Ohh, what fun times we had back then! I think the "Planets" year was a better show but I remember them all fondly. And yes, we had one kick butt drum line.
McGavock is also feeling the effects of the MNPS rot. Many of their students have or are transferring to DCA or are at Mount Juliet by means of address fraud. Attending a Metro High School has become dangerous due to the gang activity and general lack of discipline and control in the MNPS. Thank you, Dr. Garcia. You left Dr. Register a mess that will take years to clean up.
The work that use to go into these shows was ridiculous and then after the 1996 performance we went straight into PASIC rehearsal for Suburban Latin Thugs...Yeah don't miss those days one bit
@1990sthrowback Most of the kids who used to go to Overton have either been packed off to FRA, MBA, or Father Ryan. The rest are in the Williamson County school system by means of parents using address fraud due to the horrible decline of the Metro Public Schools during the last decade.
@KonOfficialYT - No disrespect but it is just my opinion. The JO bands that I have seen during the 2000's do not seem as put together as those of the 80's and 90's. Just my opinion. :)
Yep, still here and I still enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed performing these pieces. Still think we should have won at COC though ! What was it again ? (.01) of a point ? Wow. Thanks for posting !Marcus

It was incredible being able to be a part of that years band...and the drumline and pit we were on for sure
I used to watch this video over and over when I was a kid.
Pastor Joshua, you were awesome out there in your band.
Beautiful
@bhkidd Really appreciate all your comments. I played at Overton from 1982-1986 and MTSU until 1991. I like to know what is going on at my schools.
Wow. that's great! I loved this show and had the best time in that colorguard.
I loved that year!

My brother played Tenor Drums back then.
Tenor Pimp Sheldon Greene!
Really would love to find any JOHS marching band videos for 1999-2002 (the years I marched with them, drum major in '02). Any help is appreciated!
