Leslie Nielsen spend his early career as an actor playing serious roles, often as a tough guy. Turns out he had a great sense of humor and comic timing and spent the rest of his career working in comedy. Great guy, RIP.
@@RaagulanRR Even some of the not so good movies he worked in during this phase of his career...Leslie was still funny if nothing else, lol. He made some otherwise bad flicks worth checking out in my opinion.
Oh, as soon as I saw you had watched this, I knew editing some of the scenes would be a challenge. Thanks for including as much as you did, because these scenes are hilarious.
This is one of my favorite "silly" comedies. Some younger folks don't always get the ironic "film Noir" humor, but there's enough ridiculous humor for almost anyone.
not just that but i have a feeling people today need this type of movie because everyone is so uptight and oversenstive back then we could laugh at things without being offended
3:07 (and guy in hospital) is O.J. Simpson and 10:30 is Priscilla Presley (Elvis' ex-wife). 31:45 is my favorite part. Steeee rike!". I love Leslie Nielsen. Anything with him is hilarious.
I'm 4 minutes in and already dying. That table full of dictators with those badges and patches of Americana. That I lost 23 lbs ask me how badge was just part of the terrible diet culture running around in the US at that time. My mother fully invested in some of the worst diet trends and she made the rest of us suffer by having to eat the same food she ate. My sister and I would be trying to get invited to friends houses for dinner! We were still in Panama at this time, so having a housekeeper was super affordable and base housing even had living quarters for these people. THANK GOD, my parents hired a Jamaican house keeper. She was the best cook ever! I still love Jamaican food and have such fond memories of that woman. She saved us from the nastiest diet ever! Also, I forgot how dirty they did OJ's character in these movies. He ends up in a full body cast in all 3 movies I think.
32:47 Pitchers like scuffed balls because the trajectory changes. Scuffed balls and spitballs weren't illegal until 1920, but 17 pitchers were grandfathered in and allowed to use it.
@19:21 Lipstick... It's the red food die from the pistachio nuts they are eating; it gets on the lips and finger tips. @40:21 On the off chance that it wasn't noticed, Leslie Nielsen also played the doctor in Airplane.
Thank you, guys. I really needed a laugh and your reactions had me laughing along with you. To answer your question: YES. The other Naked Gun movies worth watching. This type of silliness has often been imitated but rarely matched. It's important to note that the films Airplane!, Top Secret!, and The Naked Gun were all written and directed by the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams. Their style of comedy is similar to Mel Brooks but these guys had their style of comedy down to a science. There is a precision to their foreground/background staging, wordplay, slapstick, and references to pop culture. I remember seeing an interview where they talked about "it's funnier if there's something silly in the background while there is something normal in the foreground. And vice versa." Jim Abrahams would go solo and use this style with success to spoof Top Gun and Rambo with his two "Hot Shots!" movies. He also made a movie that bombed ( but I thought was hilarious) that spoofed The Godfather and Casino called Mafia!. The Zucker Brothers would have success with the supernatural romance Ghost and the zany 90s sports comedy BASEket Ball. But honestly, while there are occasionally some decent spoof films, it was never as good as when Zucker, Abahams, Zucker were working together.
118 Billboard top 40 hits that she’s written or co-written. including Aretha’s “Natural Woman”, the Chiffon’s “One Fine Day”, the “Locomotion”, “Up on the Roof”, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”. Tapestry was #1 on the album charts for 17 weeks. Immense talent.
The red things are red dyed pistachios. (I don't like pistachios). On some locks a credit card being flexible can slip between the latch and the mortise (the groove in which the latch sets into). If the correct size card is used, it can help unlatch a locked door. It depends mostly on how much detail is spent on the depth of the mortise, versus how far recessed the latch is. Builders seldom pay as much attention to inside door latches, unlike the main entry.
"Nightcap" has a dual meaning - that's the joke there. It can mean an alcoholic drink you have before going to bed. But it can also mean a hat you wear to bed. No one wears nightcaps to bed anymore - it's a very antiquated thing. That's why it's funny that he could possibly think that's what she meant.
Your reactions are so funny! When I saw the thumbnail I told my husband, The Habibi brothers are watching Naked Gun ...he knew you'd love it. The pretty blond woman that ended up with him at the end of the movie is the ex-wife of Elvis Presley (yes, THAT Elvis). And the black man who was on the ship & ended up in the hospital... that is OJ SIMPSON. OJ was an actor, but a HUGE American Football star, considered one of the greatest running backs of all time. But he was accused of the murders of his former wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994. He was acquitted, but a lot of people believed that he did it. But this movie was released in 1988, 6 years before that murder happened. There so so many actors in this movie that went on to become famous for other movies too. OH, and that button the guy was wearing in that first scene... it said "I lost 23 lbs (abbreviation for pounds) Ask me how" in the 1980s there were a lot of "fad" diets and a lot of advertising or marketing about how much weight a person had lost, and "ask me how" ...so when someone would ask about it the person would try to sell them whatever program they had used to lose all their weight. Anyway...so many funny references of things kind of famous at the time. Thank you for your enjoyment of such a silly movie! And by the way, I love that you blur out all the indecent scenes. Appreciate it.
Oh, and the "buff" baseball player was Reggie Jackson (a Baseball legend) who was playing himself much like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (a Basketball legend) the Co-Pilot in Airplane!
It was sometime back after this film that the US Food & Drug agency Banned the Red Dye used in some foods and also on Pistachio Nuts as it had a possible link to Cancer. So when this film was made you could still get Red Pistachio Nuts and eating them you would get the Red from them on your fingers and lips. You had to be around back then to remember it.
The Qaddafi button said "I Lost 23 Lbs. Ask Me How". Written by the same ones who wrote Airplane. The red is dye used on pistachio nuts, the huge pile beside the car door. Trilogy, yes! Second is called 2 1/2 and third is called 33 1/3.
I'm in Italy and we have a lot of roman and greek naked statues. They believed in gods like Jupiter, Mars. etc... and they portaied their paradise with people naked, so for them to be naked was something like to be perfect and pure, because is how you come to this world before being dressed by other people telling you it's wrong to be naked because of reasons which may change depending on religion or culture. Moreover, for ancient sculptors and painters portaying people naked was also for showing their skills in portaying human anatomy, which could bring them more jobs.
Right after the hopscotch scene, where it sounds like a Monkey, is in reference to an original Twighlight zone episode. A guy went to Africa and brought back all sorts of artifacts, a voodoo Shaman warned him not to take the artifacts, he did anyhow. Taking them back to the U.S.. They travel back to the U.S., while his wife believes the Shaman, who gave her a rabbits foot, (considered as lucky, but I say not so much for the rabbit) as well as other protective objects, her husband finds them and burns them in a fireplace. She is worried, as he leaves home in the night for a business meeting. Later as he's walking home, there's a since of a jungle vibe, as he hears Monkeys, and other animals such as lions, and tigers. Which do get their revenge. As usual Rod Serling did not dissapoint viewers, in his quirky ways of taking real world ideas, and giving them a special spin. His works are used and studied in many film and arts classes across the United States. That small scene is a tiny tribute the writers, or someone put in for Rod Serling's creative contributions.
The part I was most worried you would cut during editing wasn't the nude statues, but the baseball game. I feared you wouldn't know enough about American baseball to fully appreciate the comedy. Thankfully, you did, and you left more of it in your video than 99% of reactors on UA-cam have. The entire third act that takes place at the ballpark is the pinnacle of absurd humor!
Have you guys watched Ace Ventura 1 and 2? If not, please do. It's hilarious! I remember watching Ace Ventura 2 in the movie theater and I was laughing so hard, I was crying 😂
Part 2 and 3, while not as good are still worth watching and funnier then most comedy movies. Top Secret is also a great movie to watch. Made between Airplane and The Naked Gun. And the same director?
Funny thig about the US national anthem - a lot of people don't actually know all the words by heart - and a number of professional singers over the years have flubbed it.
I think the badge on quadaffi's uniform is in reference to the time he tried to blackmail the US about the time libya shot missiles at a commercial airliner and the Navy sent cruise missiles into the tents of the bedouin camp he used as a retreat.
The air pollution in the last few scenes is epic! Everything over 100 meters away is hidden in the mists of air pollution. California now has the most stringent air pollution laws in the country,
