The most beautiful thing about this, and what brings me to tears, is that the greatest show is life and watching your children grow, whether they are ballerinas or trees.

People hated on this film for the prime reason that it depicted Barnum as a generous man without portraying his abuse of the animals from his shows. As an animal lover myself, I have one thing to say to that: GET OVER IT. This was only meant to be an E.N.T.E.R.T.A.I.N.I.N.G film and NOT a suggestive biopic. When I saw this at the cinema for the first time I remember tapping my feet to the music. That sealed it for me.
The problem for me is that he not only severely abused the animals but also the people working for him. There some rather nasty stories about how he treated of his performers, especially those with disabilities or deformities. He made as much money as he could on their back before throwing them penniless on the street when they couldn't perform anymore. But, yeah, I have to admit the movie looks awesome and the music slaps. I would simply have preferred if they made him a completely fictional character instead of pretending to tell the life of P. T. Barnum. With fiction you can do whatever you want, but if you start talking about real events, you need to stick to the facts
If they wanted to do a musical movie this beautiful, they shouldn’t have based it on a real guy who did terrible things in real life cuz to the audience it’s basically altering history.
@@ToonsyTheToon It's a FICTIONAL story about a real person. Jesus Christ, I wonder if this many people had so many complaints when Mel Brooks had Adolf Hitler dancing in The Producers.
The music in this and La La Land were done by the same writing team. But a critic said where the songs of La La Land seemed contrived and forced into the scene. The songs in Showman fit the scene and were perfectly matched to what was happening in the movie. The songs were like a roller coaster, just when you think you have a moment to relax, another song comes and throws you back in your seat for another ride.
I feel like Hugh tried to pass it to Zac (they make eye contact, Hugh points at him, then gives the elephant the hat) it just came back to him bc Zac wasn’t around so bearded lady grabbed it and was like “stay” not really understanding Hugh had another life he could live. Hugh realized he had to pass it on himself and ran over. Plus it was like a magic trick. The old ringmaster runs off, and he becomes younger when he comes back on

@@superiorofthein-between8790 my point is that the real PT Barnum was a piece of shit and that the quote at the end of the movie (which could just as likely be something he never really said) greatly misrepresents who he was as a person. This is a guy who told people an 80 year old black woman was George Washington's nurse and when she died he sold tickets to see her autopsied. He was not a good person. I love the movie and think everyone involved did a fantastic job but I do take some issue with the way Barnum is portrayed
He could very well have said both, Barnum is remembered, as the film's title rightfully says, as the Greatest Showman.
