The Turán Tank - Hungary's Forgotten Second World War Tank

- During the Second World War, Hungary had a rather horrific time. It was allied with the Axis forces and Nazi Germany initially, however the country would be ravaged by the horrific race laws that Hitler would impose. The Hungarian Army would be lent forces during the conflict by many different countries and they would even deploy Panthers, Tiger Tanks, Shermans and even T-34s.
However they did develop their own tank, known as the Turan. This was designed and created by the Hungarians for use by their own armies. However the Turan was lightyears behind other countries tank industries.
In this video we look at the Turan, and the different models designed by the Hungarian army. It really is one of the most forgotten tanks of the Second World War.

2:00 so that's what Sylvester Stallone was doing before he started acting
Well made video! Greetings from Norway ;)
Great video of a seldom heard of vehicle!!! You should think about doing a video about the Hungarian 44M TAS - Hungary's attempt at producing its own medium tank comparable to the German Panther. It looks quite similar and ONLY was 1 built - it was destroyed during an Allied bombing raid at its factory.
2 were built but both were destroyed in the bombing
Based on the source, but only 1 or 2 HALF prototypes were made (only the chassis)
A well made video on an interesting subject
Good video but you didn't show the photo of 43M Turán prototype...
Please dont refer to them as the 40M, 41M and 43M. Call them the Turan I, II, III. Also the Turan II was not completely obsolete, it could destroy T-34s. And the Turan III did leave the design stage, 2 were fully built and tested, but in 1944 Germany invaded Hungary and stopped the Turan III project while they were there.
Well done
1 or 2 43M Turán made, but because Hungary wasn't able to make more than 2 or 3 43M páncéltörő löveg (43M armor piercing gun) it was cancelled. Based on the source, but at least one 43M Turán 3 made (but some sources say 2). The nother gun was put in the Zrínyi 1 assault gun/tank hunter prototype
The riveted armor says it all, only could be used for infantry support after the first couple years of the war
Introduced too late, with insufficient armament. A variant with 8cm front armour and a 7.5cm long gun prototype was constructed in the spring of 1944, but production of the cannon was insufficient, and so it was never serially produced.
The thought of being in there with all those rivets flying around is not pleasant.
Low velocity on the 41ms gun is not quiet accurate. It was an L31 gun with a muzzle velocity of some 600m/s, capable of frontally defeating t34s at 500m, or any range utalising heat ammunition.
TURAN : the Turkic federation
The Fascists support that idea, still to this day.
@@zneytram1432 The Hungarians have a deep-rooted Hungarian-Hun tradition. Until the middle of the 19th century, it was generally accepted that Hungarians were kinsfolk of the Huns and Scythians, besides Árpád, Grand Prince of the Hungarians was a direct descendant of the great Hun leader Attila. Hun-Hungarian affinity was declared in Hungarian and foreign written medieval sources and has been maintained in Hungarian folk memory. All of the old Hungarian medieval chronicles say “The Hungarians came from Scythia” and “The Scythians and the Huns are the ancestors of the Hungarians”. These medieval chronicles were written only for the King about the deeds of his own family and not for the folk. The authors did not lie for the King about his family, the chronicles also contain many negative things about the royal family. I also think the kings knew the history of their families before these chronicles were written because the royal court has storytellers. These chronicles were not written for million of print to use as propaganda to the peoples
The Chronicum Pictum (1300s) says: "primus ingressus" = “first incoming” = Attila, "secundus ingressus" = “second incoming” = Arpad
All old Hungarian chronicle Gesta Hungarorum (1200s), Chronicum Pictum (1300s) etc say we are Scythians, Huns, Avars. same traditions, faith world (Turul, Deer) fight style etc
Hungarians have the oldest Attila depiction etc

Great research.. What accent is this?
imagine the horror of being in that tank against soviet tanks like t34-85 and KV.
👍
Hungary was a kingdom until 1918...
You literally chose the worst thumbnail of the Turán, it barely shows the tank!
Germany didn’t make MBTs in World War II… I don’t know what you are talking about.
At 1:17, those appear to be Romanian soldiers; definitely not Hungarian.
