When people think of marketing communication, they think advertising, but marketing communication is much more. And before we can go into all of the different ways firms can communicate with their customers they may want to have an idea of some of the goals they should be setting for themselves, so when the time comes to develop an effective marketing communications plan they know what they should be going for.

I think Mountain Dew did a great job on awareness and brand image in the late 90s to the early 2000s. They had videos of people hiking, mountain climbing, and kayaking. I started to associate Mt Dew with a great drink and being for a person who likes adventure. I'd always go to the outdoors with my Mt. Dew. I even tried to get it on the submarine that went down 2000 feet, but they took it away because they didn't want the co2 in an enclosed space. Mountain Dew's image became one of adventure.
Last, they did a video of a working professional going to work and taking his Mt. Dew to work because coffee was too boring. As a teenager, I thought I love Dew and hated coffee at the time. The commercial worked, and I take Mt. Dew to work. I'd become adventurous and professional. A well rounded individual.
Mt. Dew did help me become more well rounded. Just not in the way I had hoped.
