Here's my guess: The album may be called Ultraviolet... because you cant see Ultraviolet light, but you can feel the heat of UV light, much like the sun's rays. It's an amazing feeling being under the sun, soaking in the rays. But too much is harmful. You hear/see the songs as happy & upbeat, but really it's pretty dark. You're seeing through the "ultraviolet" light of the song. You're feeling the heat = the upbeat rhythm, but you dont see the dark meaning of the lyrics = ultraviolet. The words arent harmful, but they came from a possibly emotionally harmful experience, perhaps a loved one passing, or a ghostly or spiritual experience. Adam, you amazing genius you.

I personally interpreted it around "black light". We cannot see ultraviolet light, and there are black lights which emit ultraviolet. Adam quite patently sings about darkness in these songs - and that's what stands out initially - but he also sings about light, although more subtly; like black lights, only a little bit of visible light is emitted. Even in black light, even in times of darkness and hardship and strife, there is always light and hope. It's not a matter of believing it's there - it's fact: black light emits ultraviolet light. Light is light, isn't it? It's there. You've just got to remember, and open your eyes to it. It's darkly beautiful. It kind of reflects his faith, too. And mine. And any Christian's.

So I was searching for this very song; Owl City's Up All Night, then UA-cam suggested One Direction's song with the same name. I listened to it just for comparison with Owl City's and you guessed it: One D's song was all about partying all night (how cliche) and Owl City's has a twist to it. There's no mention of partying at all, just a guy and his thoughts that keep him up all night. IMO that twist is what exemplifies Owl City over other mainstream bands.
Apparently I fell off the face of the earth and forgot to buy this album.. I have since corrected that horrendous mistake! I also have fallen in love with this song.
