Welcome back to my channel and in this Vlog something a little different but at the same time something not to be missed. We originally went over to Cromford in Derbyshire to bring you a full Vlog of the Fun Fair at the Cromford Steam Fair 2021 however due to the terrible weather the week prior to the event we decided against it because the conditions on foot was terrible and it wouldn't of made great footage due to all the mud on foot,you might see how bad it was during the video. However when we found out there was a Wall of Death Show at the event we obviously couldn't miss this unique show that doesn't come by every week so why not film the show and show you guys at home.
The Fox family have been touring and entertaining since the 1920s with their vintage Indian Scouts and 20 foot high vertical wall it is a show that needs to be seen to be believed.The noise,the speed,the smell,the proximity of the bikes ridden to the top of the wall,barely 6 inches from the audience an experience never to be forgotten.The Wall of Death originally started life in Skegness, thanks to two great showmen, Billy Butlin and Pat Collins, but went into decline with the advent of War. Ken wanted to encourage its popularity and so he learned to ride the wall with Crispey's Wall of Death in Skegness before building his own wall in 1995.
This was an amazing show that lasted well over 10 minutes and was action packed and included 3 riders all putting on different ride acts and the finale was amazing when all 3 riders took to the wall. At £3 per person this was great value and to be honest I would of paid more. If you come across this travelling show i'd highly recommend you pay them a visit and show some support.It's something for all ages to enjoy and what was common many years ago at Travelling Fun Fairs is now something you really have to search for and i'm glad i finally came across a stunning example.
The Fox Family also trained Guy Martin for his TV show Guy Martin's Wall of Death for Channel 4 where he set a new world record for riding the wall at 78mph so there's plenty of history surrounding this carnival sideshow event it's definitely one of the best of it's kind in the country and it also includes a female rider who was amazing.

I remember watching this during The 70's Peckham Rye Travelling fair it terrified me always thought how brave the two guys were driving motor bikes round the wall at high speed🚴

Great video Daz, they are great entertainers the Fox family I've watched them at the Great Dorset Steam Fair before. They may have told you Ken's son Luke now owns the ex-Crispey Wall.

You’ve pulled another great vlog out the hat again along with Scarborough. Great to see the Wall of Death again. Remembering the Goose fair back in the 70s, early 80s. Went in every year to watch. About a £1 then, lol.
Wow £1 seems a bargain when you look back lol I remember it at goose too however I can’t remember if my dad ever took me in. It’s awesome there’s still some on the circuit keeping up this tradition.
I like this, it is quite exciting. At this moment in time I am helping to build a wall of death in Scotland.

The really scary thing about the wall of death is that you can feel the structure move when they go round excellent video !! If you haven’t see. This in real life I highly recommend you go and see one it’s amazing to watch

There is a wonderful smell in there though, from the bikes.. and yes, to say its value for money is a big understatement.
The Wall, is one of the very BEST shows, to still be seen in the UK Today!

That’s what I love about showmen, they turn the most basic of physics into a death defying illusion and I just love seeing people react to one of the most simple of them all, the wall of death!!!!
It is just the reverse of when you ride say the Crazy Gage or Meteorite, the cage creates the force that pins you to the cage, the wall of death is the reverse, the bike creates the force that holds you to a still wall!
The only risk of death (more a nasty injury, death if you are really unlucky or death if the bike blows up) is if the bike stalls or you are crap at steering and steer yourself out the top of the ring in which you have more chance killing a spectator than yourself!
